Paco del Stinko
...A song about vampires. It makes sense now I've heard it through once.
As always the production quality is excellent, the guitar work is impressive. I don't get the lyrics, they seem a little random, as is the tune in places, though I think that works given the subject matter. I, however can't stand vampires, so I'll leave it at that. Good work, not my thing.

Spin, the standard procedure is to put the reviews into one post to keep things clean. Not that it's really a problem, but it's much easier to read without headers and footers popping up every two or three bands.

Ok. I didn't know anyone would have a problem with it. I was getting fed up of writing long reviews and then having the session time out.

there is no standard procedure for reviews. please, spinlock, review any way you want. a person who has been here less than 60 days isn't really in a position to tell anyone what the "standard" is anyway. i don't think anyone else here has any kind of problem with it, and most people are glad just to get one more review. as for the argument that multiple posts are clogging up the thread, there are a lot more "off topic" posts in almost every thread that are genuinely annoying. reviewing only a couple songs per post is not only on topic, but it shows that more thought is being given to giving opinions/criticism than just the one line, no help, reviews that tend to come about when a whole fight is reviewed at once. personally, i usually can't listen to/review all the garbage in any given fight in one sitting.

I know what you're sayin', vegetarian, but jackfrost is right. As long as you're discussing the fight it's good for the forum. I do reviews sort of split up sometimes myself. And often I can only be bothered to say "Hey! X! Great song!" Which I think people like to hear. Not that I lie, or anything, it's just that... I only.... oh poo.

Groovy, where can I download the template?

I jest of course... I'm only nudging your ribs.

Here is a suggestion if you want to post once but have problems with session timing out (which has never been a problem for me) or your wireless internet connection is off/on type of relationship... or you just don't have time to do them all at once: (for me, I just hate typing SO MUCH in such a small window)

Open up a text file of some sort...be it Microsoft Word or notepad. Write a little, save...write a little more. Copy and paste. (if you do it in an html editor instead... you can even color code and copy it into the post as the message board does recognize SOME simple html tags.

As already stated, it's no big deal to post reviews over several posts... but it is EASIER to find if it is in <i>one</i>.

Thanks Ross. I never got a chance to comment on the reviews or review. But from what I read in the reviews, I'm a bit surprised.

So I guess I should take this opportunity to thank my pesky Mom, for whom without I would have 7 less votes. :P

Ok, so these reviews are pretty late
but better than never
enjoy

Billy’s Little Trip: like it, every thing blends nicely. Everything is nice and solid, good rhythm. Good quality, very. A good song, could stand to have it in my playlist. Energetic drumming.

Dublin Duck Dispensary: lo fi, drums are pretty quiet. Don’t like how muted the guitar and drums sound, the bell effects and vocals are the loudest part. The guitar sounds like pure static. I can almost hear a bassline coming through the mix sometime, but it’s barely heard. Take care of your levels. The little instrumental on the end does nothing for me, shoulda ended it before that.

Flvxxvm Florvm: it’s alright. I like when the electric and drums come in, it starts to pick up a bit. The rhythm of the vocals seems odd at parts. The vocals are kinda odd, but goes with the style I suppose? Got tired of the chorus fast

Four Zombies and a Clown: …….

Hello Blue Monday: vocals sounds very sluggish and weak. Keyboard solo was alright, simple but neat. Pretty depressing song. Nice drum beat, but it sounds weak. The vocals just kinda drone on and I don’t really pay attention to what it’s saying.

Jeff Travis Henderson: nice, like the drums, changing it up a bit, technical skill. Synths are nice too, tasteful. Pretty good song. The vocals are fun, with the sudden tonal changes. The breakdown is nice too, like the drum fill. Yeah the drums really do it for me.

Klownhole: b-bondo? heavy, liked it, could feel the energy. Like the background vocals too, the deep laughs and such. Enjoyed, liked the fast end too, feelin it.

Lord Of Oats: synth is catchy, the voice just seems kinda odd, like unnatural, more apparent in the chorus, I did like the instrumentation on the chorus though. You do get a nice sense of melody from the song though, the guitar repeating the synth from before reinforced that nicely. Not a bad song.

MC Eric B: voice is creepy, the beat ain’t bad though, synth (violin or something) and bass sounds are really low. The voice just gives me imagery of some creepy white dude going to clubs, hollering at girls “how much will you give me?” in his creepy pedophile voice.

Melvin: liked the lead going over everything, simple where it needs to be, draws out the song, ties it together. Very upbeat, especially when the tambourine comes in. The bass line and mocking rhythm guitar give it that bouncy feel, it’s nice. Foot tapping, nice organ, how it comes in is great.

The None Rappers feat. Busted Libido: Nothing really sounds like it goes together. The drums sounds far away, the crash gets annoying. Guitar just kinda all over the place, being annoying. Chaotic, the vocals have a harsh distortion but it sounds pretty cool in some parts. Didn’t do much for me musically.

Of Science and Numbers: It’s a solid song with nice levels on everything and the chorus is nice and showy and soft with the background vocals. But I wish more happened musically, that little dissonance in the lead before the bigger verse and some double bass hits were the only interesting things I heard. The rest is just power chords with matching basslines (ok ok chord progressions I’ll give, but that never really translates fully to the listener). great change in dynamics though, that’s where the variation comes from and keeps it interesting. Vocals are good. Began to remind me of nofx towards the end, the yelling parts.

Paco Del Stinko: liked it from the intro drum roll, nice swing to the guitar/bass rhythm, and the lead effects oo0o0o. Good vocals too. Like that there’s so many instrumental breaks and little additions. Wow, really liked the part where the vocals were humming/moaning or whatever and the lead guitar went over it, almost mimicking at parts, nicely done, enjoyed the song

PIGPEN: liked the intro part but it was long, enjoy the style, Brazilian Girl-like if you know them. The hush kinda vocals are odd though and seem a little out of place. The weird vocal part is awesome though, can hear it going between the speakers.
Nice layering, cool atmosphere going, absorbed into, the chorus part. Everything’s really long and drawn out though.

puadxe: god I need a new fucking mic, and totally regret picking that vocal take. I had faith in this song, but listening to it now, everything sounds really distant.

ralph makes music: some of the harmonica sounds off and just sloppy in some parts. The little warp-cut at the end was really apparent. The whistling was annoying. Sloppy

Ross Durand- really like the guitar, vocals fit it well too. Nice and eerie, and one of the few songs where the lyrics have an effect on me (the lyrics about your water running through her veins and something about sucking juices from within) Is this about the death of the earth? An apple tree too? Listened to this 3 times. That “bassline” which is probably just your guitar is amazing, it has this stifled feel to it almost and adds a nice rhythm, really digging this entry, may vote for it.

Senza Valore: vocals are weird, it made me sad when all the intro instruments faded out--but then it comes back, it’s not bad. A nice mix of genres. Yeah everything’s pretty cool, drums too, just the vocals

Steve durand: Oh ok, that’s how a trumpet is supposed to sound! Amazing playing, envious. Love the drumming , the whole thing, I’m a jazz fan and it’s rare here so it’s great to hear. My only crit is the vocals, could fill more..i don’t know though, as the song goes on I get used to it. Joy to listen to, nice entry.

Suburban Bear Quadrant: funny, reminds me of cky. Good laughs, the high pitched chorus vocals too. Hard to follow what you guys are trying to do in the end though, shoulda ended it some other way.

VeGetar Ianra Ge: the 80’s feel of the song is intense, like it’s so stereotypically 80’s it makes me feel embarrassed listening to it, nicely done. All the instrumentation is tight though, no doubting that. The little solo touches are nice, that little organ part too. It’s not a bad song, just hard to take seriously. I always feel touchy reviewing songs like this because I’m not sure if the they’re doing a parody on purpose or if that’s just what they’re into; if you’re the latter I apologize.

Weakest suit: you always seem to have well placed guitar mutes, creates a very dramatic effect, I like. Guitar kept it interesting too, the way it would interact with your voice nicely, good chords changes too, created a variety of mood and build ups. Wish there was maybe more though? Accompaniment I mean, but that’s a personal choice.

White Hat: really like the chorus, jazzy. absorbed into this one. Vocals are really good, and the guitar accompaniment wow, amazing song. Driving, and the vocals do a lot of the work in that, don’t see that a lot, nicely done. Enjoyed the listen

The White Hat wrote:Billy's Little Trip - This rocks. That said, the guitar tone sounds a little hollow and I can't hear the lyrics. Best rock lyrics ever: "Should have listened to your mother."
You really should upgrade from the coconut shell headphones. :P
Thanks Hat
jolly roger wrote: Billy's Little Trip - That riff is reminiscent of the PDS tune I just listened to. Vocals like this really have nothing memorable ... the guitars and drums really drive the song, but I feel unfulfilled ... I'm all about singing ... less talk/yell vocals. I can see someone who likes that style of singing really enjoying this song. Sorry.
It's just made to be a rocker, nothing more. I wrote it to be an action song for a short video I've been dying to make, so the fight was a good springboard to motivate me. Thanks JR.
milothefultz wrote:Billy's Little Trip - Awesome. Really digging the retroness of it. It's like Sabbath a little, and then it just turns totally awesome. The vocals are a bit hard to understand, but it's still a really well done mix. The lyrics I heard are also very good.
retroness was key in this song, thanks for noticing.
veGetar Ianra Ge wrote:<b>BLT -</b> This song is rockin' but I really don't like it anyway. The intstrumental rules but the vocals are just too bland for me. You need Steve Tyler singing over this and you'll be good to go.
Steve Tyler would ruin this song. Now Gibby Haynes would put this song in the charts.
....so you really don't eat meat? Image
MC Eric B wrote:Billy's Little Trip - I like the lyrics and vocals. Sounds a little too much like a garage band though, and that is not my type of music. But, the song is very very good for what it is. It just doesn't do anything to grab me into it.
I bet if I talked more about waves crashing on the rocks it would have been better. Image
But yes, garage band sounding is an absolute must.

I love that you know your own sound. This is another great BLT song.
I don't know anything about cars, so I thought a "Posi in the rear" would mean a screwdriver up your ass. Turns out your song isn't that sort of depraved.
Anyway, great rocking track. Only one annoyance is that in the "Don't you wanna" section first time through... I think you're adding a fuzzy guitar with the vocals, but it sounds like the vocals are clipping, rather than an extra guitar thing.
Actually it is about a screwdriver up your ass. I keeed I keeeed. Posi is short for positraction in the automotive world. Thanks Spin.

Thanks for the nice review - yeah, its about our overuse of earth's resources as an extension of Shel Silverstein's "The giving tree." (That ends with the tree as a stump). Really glad you like the song!
