Because of various family stuff, I will not be able to finish this between now and the deadline.
However, I'm willing to donate tab for what I had come up with:

Nice, a week and a weekend.
This is a good title, I think. Better than the last one anyway. I think I'll break out the acoustic on this. I finally changed my strings, the old ones were a health risk they were so rusty.

sweet title. the nature of my lyrics will probably vary only slightly from most of the other submissions. still worth it for how much fun it was to write. now to record.....

Actually I remember a news story a few months back about a woman who tried using packing tape to keep her baby's pacifier in its mouth. If you decide to search your favorite news outlet for the details (for inspiration!) keep an eye open for the technical term "involuntary manslaughter."Sven wrote:violence against babies
Is it a problem that this is the first thing that came to my mind?

I'm working on it...but I can't post a demo because my email/ftp/website are down. Anyone interested in collab on a hard rock tune for this (drums or all instrumentation, as always!), PM immediately with your email and I'll try to email you my demo through Gmail. Peace!

just sent mine in.
disclaimer: my vocals are probably too loud. the mix sounded good on the multitrack, then i got it on the mac and i hope it's just my crappy laptop speakers - hope it's not too overbearing for everybody else.
i dunno, probably not a winner to begin with, but i like it (aside from the use of the drum machine - but hey, it fits in my apartment and my real drums don't)...(and, of course, how much louder the vocals sounded on my computer... not that i'm a big fan of the way my voice sounds anyway, but i try)...

I just sent mine in. I tried a slightly different approach to recording this time. Rather than trying to record "the entire rhythm guitar in a single take", I hit record and started playing. When I screwed up, I stopped, erased back to the screw-up, then started at that point. PLUS, I recorded the vocals and guitar separately, and I also did the vocals the same way I did the guitar. It really seems to speed up my time in the recording phase, and I got less frustrated as it didn't have to done in a single take. Less frustration should eventually lead to better production values. And better production values should lead to more votes...
hopefully.

Laptop speakers almost always seriously lack bass response. If you turn it up to where you can hear it, it will probably accentuate the vocals. My PC happens to have a pair of speakers hooked up to it that really emphasizes the frequencies of bass guitar. Weird? Yeah. I listen to SF songs on at least five different systems before I vote or review. I'll let you know how yours sounds when I hear it.Hell Biscuit wrote:just sent mine in.

interestingly enough, I'm in the opposite position from you, in that I usually break my recordings up into several small chunks in order to get that magic take of each section, but for this song I just took a couple takes all the way through until I found that magic take of the whole song. It just felt right for this song.Wages wrote:I just sent mine in. I tried a slightly different approach to recording this time. That said, I'm all done and entered. I'm also quite happy with how things turned out. It's certainly not perfect, but it's got a great feel to it, so I was quite happy to enter it without re-recording until perfection. Also, my auto-tune was acting up on me, so I had to do without. I guess that's the occasional cost of pirating plug-ins.
