I'm glad that you took it well! I definitely considered it a very very rough approximation of your sound (meaning that it fell under a very broad 'electronic' umbrella and I didn't have very much time to spend on it, unfortunately.) Don't take it as any sort of indicator as to how others perceive your work. I think what you turned in was far more compelling, and yes I tend to go for a more melodic gel to bring any abstraction or experimentation together, where I can tell that your work is generally more esoteric or complex. Mostly, though, I just didn't have enough time to take it as far as I could've.

My original ambitions were to do the three 'lyric burglarings', an original track, and then to have 3 short interludes to introduce and recur throughout the fight. The interludes were going to be constantly counting upwards (of course) alongside some bizarre lyrics set to the backing of a fucked up Shepard Scale. Needless to say, I was a little bit ahead of myself idea-wise and so only the 3 interpretations were done.. poorly. :)

I thought your submissions were quite good. I'll have to go back and hear your songs again from other fights, and see if there is familiarity there. The voice seemed quite familiar and tough to place for me.

Nice job, although I would have liked to have heard your original piece as well.

And good call, Mr. Oats.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to listen to my track. And for the thoughtful responses. I gotta ask (though I may regret it) what is yacht-rock?

half reviews.

Asteroids- when I first heard the music I was like “ holy crap I like this already”, no wonder though
Cuz you guys are ROCK STARS!! Great song . I always love the lyrics and harmonies you guys produce.

BeWells- as always one of the more polished acts of SF. You really seem to understand music theory, not that im any kind of expert, I just recognize talents that I don’t have. anyways Every instrument works in such harmony with the other, very nice song.

Bizzaro Eric..ugh…nice try man, the lyrics are kinda cool, the music is semi-believable, and im assuming this is a spoof, so…..no more rapping for you mmmkay?

Blues M’fing co.-hate the vocal effect. This song is swimming in crappy effects. There are a lot of song fighters that play improv songs for fights, but most of the time they still have good lyrics. There is nothing at all appealing about this song.

Baby donkeys in space- this sucks man.

Caravan ray-this is hilarious but at the same time really awesome!! You have a little rock star on your hands there. I love it so much hahahahaha!! Oh my goodness you and your loin fruit Rule!!

Chonny- this is okay. A little yacht rocky musically, I don’t know if you are the guy who asked what yacht rock is, but I always meant that it’s the kind of music that you would hear on…well…a yacht. Meaning not really cool with the young uns but thuper bad ath with the rich old guys. The song is okay

Dan add-I usually like GNG songs. This one just doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe it’s the kind of song that grows on a person.

Dynamic R D- oddly reminiscent….skip

Eddie lance- I don’t like how this is starting . I love star bucks. I love expensive gas, I love being late on my mortgage, I hate Viagra, I hate pizza….I love beer. I hate alarm clocks. Funny.

Frisbee & Swing sets- Glennny, Paco Del Stinko, Ken, Martyr ( with your knob twinsting ) and Steve all did a Great job with this song. I have worked with Glennny and Ken before and they are awesome!! Always creative and brilliant. I have always wanted to work with steve, but never had the stones to actually ask Since I can be kind of a chore to collab with. And Paco is just simply the man. I love how the song turned out.

Hillbilly buffalo- . I have a hangover just listening. Its pretty funny though.

King Arthur- well done! Great solo. Nice tight song.

Klownhole- a lesson in how to sound dark and angry the right way. As always tight. Not really that fun to listen to though.

Lord of oats-music sounds promising….crap…oh yah we all love melvin but I think he might need some sort of protection order from you psycho. You sound like you are talking to a high school sweetheart. This is uncomfortable to listen to.

Mages- muffled vocals.

Max the cat-love the lyrics

Melvin-what can I say that hasn’t already been said in the lord of oats song  awesome song mel. I really like the breakdown just before 2:00. The lyrics are light and creative. Another brilliant song for the Melvin collection.

This was all I could muster for now.
Favs so far...besides the Frisbee & The Swing Sets entry

Music is too loud. It makes it a chore to try and hear what you and the other guy are saying. Turn the music down.

You sound too much like the other guy. It sounds like you're talking to yourself. Find someone else who sounds different than you.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but Max the Cat soared this week (last week). So that's where my vote went. But you already knew that.

Just thought I'd pop in out of the blue and say:

Frisbee et al - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remix this song. I'm not usually a stickler for production, but this one just had so much going on. This song seems really awesome, but it feels kind of like a bunch of people in different parts of the country slapping MP3s together.

Rhythmicwhateveryournameis - You got my vote this week. Love the style. You haven't nailed it perfectly, but double-points for effort.

I don't know if these are really helpful at all, but some of you folks ought to enjoy them. Feedback is appreciated.
Rest assured, other than the crit about the piano sound and the screaming guys in the background, that wasn't really helpful at all. All you could tell me is that you didn't like it and couldn't explain why. Gee, thanks. That'll really help me bring something more to the table for next time. I will say that it was interesting hearing that it sounds like something someone would be murdered to in a movie or that it wouldn't be out of place in Royal Tenenbaums. Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson soundtracks are filled with music I love, so maybe that makes sense.

Also, some people DO buy my stuff on iTunes.

Hi.
I know I'm pretty new and probably shouldn't be getting on folks' cases, but that seems to be the way of the world here. So I will.

My problem with your audio reviews (and many of the finger-clacky reviews) is that folks are spending more time reviewing and not listening to the song. I know it takes a bit of time, (especially for a 32 song fight) but a pass through to listen and maybe take some little notes, and another pass to write seems alot more helpful. Everyone's going to have different opinions, and though they're hard to drop, they're kind of useless. That you didn't like my song doesn't bother me at all, it's very helpful to have a reference point on a review in that person's material.

An even bigger problem with this set of audio reviews (I've only heard 2 sets of these), is that with 2 of you there, you're just trying to crack eachother up. I know that's going to happen in any conversation, but to come up with a pithy comment, you're distracted further from actually listening.

The name Dynamic Rhythm Device is taken from Coke's logo, which is named the Dynamic Ribbon Device.
For the record, I am not Justice Yeldham, the guy that screams into and breaks glass on himself.

Congrats to the winner, but I'm confused - I voted for frisbee, but it says they got zero votes?! Bug? Election fraud?! It's like 2000 and 2004 all over again.

I actually listened to every one of the audio reviews. Although I'm sure a few of the artists being reviewed may be miffed a smidgen, I enjoyed them.

Also, Caravan Ray and his daughter was so damn jamming and cute, all bundled up in one. I love how she says the number eight. :D

9 votes! That is more than I have ever gotten by myself

I believe it was Homer Simpson who once said:
I think the saddest day of my life was when I realized I could beat my Dad at most things, and Bart experienced that at the age of four.

Harriet has now beaten me at Songfight at age 3 and a half
