Mini-reviews from imperfect memory.

Berkeley Social Scene - Love the unison riff. Rocking, nice and tight.

Crank Radio - More amazing rock! Wow. At this point I am wondering how in the hell I will follow this.

Glenn Case - It keeps coming! Great sound. Bass and lead guitar could be louder.

Inevitableguy - I'd love to hear this one with a full band backing it up.

JBB Ha! Perfect in its simplicity. Clear winner! Vote. A worthy addition to the canon of E-A-D-A songs.

Jon Eric - I'd love to hear a studio version of this. Awesome Glenn harmonica solo! Big props for not giving in and getting through it!

# - I'd love to hear this as it was intended to be heard.

Sockpuppet - I love the idea. You managed to take what was probably the most obvious interpretation of the title and still do something interesting with it.

I am really happy with my drumming on #'s and somewhat happy with it on Jon Eric's (I did drum on that one, right? I actually don't remember!).

I feel I must point out that the Sockpuppet entry was partially written by Roymond (that one line) and of course Roymond played bass and Marcus played drums. I told them to just come up on stage and play those instruments and it would be obvious what to do. They did it perfectly. For those listening at home, I also made a quip about this being an "open mic night" at the beginning which didn't make it into the recording.

I was really worried when Glenn said we'd be going in alphabetical order. Fortunately nobody else took the easy way out.

Just about to post some reviews (32 entries big) and I decided to listen to my own entry WTF? VBR encoding is stuffo and stops during playback. I've Re Submited a CBR file that might even make it to the end of the song this time around, sorry guys. Lets hope its replaced. :) Scomber

For the record, if anyone wants to know why my vocals keep dropping out of my track, it's partly because I was dancing around a bit, and thought the mic would pick up more than it did.

But also it was mostly because I forgot my lyrics and couldn't read my own handwriting. Oh, and I had "She's got one leg on the left / And one leg on the right / And where they meet, is where I'm gonna be tonight" running through my head. Curse you, John Benjamin!!!

Also, major props to the other musicians in my song, fluffy on drums, Roymond on bass, and Glenn on harmonica (and improvised backup vocals).

I'd like to make a quick note for Authors Of. This is our first collaborative work that we submitted. I got Signboy to do the vocals. Personally I really like the chorus and I also like the experience of collaborating on a tight deadline. So even though there is room for improvement it's a great learning experience.

I'm uploading my recordings of the live fight, too, which may or may not be any better than what else is available.

fluffy's joke made it into my recording. I tried, while I was listening, to stop and start the recordings along with the songs, but I seem to have failed several times. Ah, well. I actually was recording continually but nobody wants to hear the interstitial stuff, I don't think.

Also, I uploaded my live cover of Fuzzy Logic by Erik to the same directory.

I think I'm going to work up a full band version and debut it at SF Live 2010. So, expect me to contact you in about 11.5 months asking if you'd like to play mandolin on it. :D

Rone,
Sounds like you have advanced your craft. Still not what I'd listen to, but it's better than it was last time I listened -- probably 2 years ago.
Nice to know you're still in it.

Hey -- I've been sick and wrong for exactly 3 years!
(actually way more, but whatever...)

Similarly I have submitted a version trimmed from Marcus' more complete recording. I'd forgotten about the other jokes that happened too. <3

authors of - Great guitar but I had to wait till 1.18 for the vocal to lift. Nice sound.

Balance Lost - Love the piano and music box. Nice flow on the rap.

Berkeley Social Scene - Nice & tight as always, drums a bit loud. Very Live and alive :-)

The Colour of Infinity - mellow space created here +++, bit samey after a while.

Crank Radio - Rockn stuff. gets my vote ++

Everlasting Gobstopper - Wish your vox was a bit wider and louder.Super song with the big acoustic strums, found myself waiting for the bass to thump in for some reason. Great melody.

Future Boy - Dig the electric piano and slightly weird melody. Synth I like +

Glenn and Rachael - Love this one, feels like I'm in the room.

Gooey Caramel Centaur - Pops on the mic a pity. Wish there was some drums later. Good ideas +

The Hell Yeahs - Great live sound, wish it was longer.....

James Owens - Did you do this in the workshop? beating a horseshoe into shape on a anvil, you've played the alchemist well and turned lead into gold.

Jeff Robertson and the Neo-Candylanders - You nailed it. Parts sound kinda Dylanish :)

The John Benjamin Band - No one really owns these chords. Sounds like I missed a fun gig. Damm Pacific Ocean in the way. Love the legs and where they meet dude.

Jon Eric - Good story and structure, extra points for live :) Do do do run do do do run

Kasper - Clean guitar sound, good MJ references, funny song dude.

King Arthur - Pink Floydish - nice. I like the guitar and bass lines. Solid.

Lord of Oats - I like the verses much more than than the intro. Nice synth sounds and the spoken word bit works well. +

Melvin is God - Nicely produced, I'd like some real drums. But that's just me.

Naked Philosophy - Three chords but it doesn't suck at all. Alcohol really helps I agree.

Octothorpe - Marketing and sales is nothing but meetings. We should call a meeting about our future meetings. Insightful. +

Paco del Stinko - Huge. I'm in the mosh pit, punching the guy next to me.

Pathetic Wannabees - Authentic, nice groove.

Raised by Wolves - Great production and ambiance Vote +

Rone Rivendale - Dig the atari set. I'd like to hear a prog rock version of this with some cheesey guitar, bass and keys.

Scomber and Friends - That's me playing the dirty oldman. This is not at all autobiographical though. Take the war out and its pretty true. Had lots of fun though if that counts.

The Sky Looks Pissed - Wish there was more melody in places. Good guy with guitar song.

Sockpuppet - Very Zapperish, love the band impro. It was over too soon.

The Stypod Queers Experiment - I agree.

Surf Train Surf Industry - Wish there were some real drums, but I guess its to genre. vocoder sounds good, I'll vote for anything that mentions the word "surf"

Todd McHatton - Very Beatlesque as always. Would have liked some orchestration or the rest of the S. Peppers LHCB join in. Fantastic as always.

The Voice Inside Your Head - Vocals should be stronger, great lyrics and theme. Wish I could hear the train more.

The Weakest Suit - Tight guitar performance. You keep serving em up Mr Suit.

Is "lifts" the same as "half-step-upward key changes"? 'Cause if not, I don't know what you mean.
Scomber wrote:Vocals should be stronger ... Wish I could hear the train more.
Yeah they should be. Or I should write fewer syllables per line so I can actually deliver them. Also: you do realize there wasn't an actual train, right?

Yes. As a side note, if you listen to my track, you might find it familiar...

Oh, no! Am I a newbie or what? I just logged in and spent two hours composing thoughtful comments. But when I submitted, I was asked to log in again and all the comments were lost!

Uh, great songs, everybody!

Maybe I will write them again offline and submit them later in the week.

When that happens you can usually press the 'back' button and it'll still be there waiting for you.

Thanks. Maybe if I hadn't re-logged in that would have worked, but I re-logged in. when I pressed the Back button I got "Page expired."

I was working from handwritten notes, so it's not totally hopeless. Just a matter of finding another hour or so before I go on vacation this Saturday.

Yeah, it's short, you're right. But, there sure is a lot of song packed in to that 1 minute and 36 seconds! :) Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus! Whoo hoo! Thanks for liking the live sound.
