I'm kind of amazed that Cartoon Network hasn't been sued over just how similar the Steven Universe theme is to Radiohead's "Creep." There's even some pretty major melodic similarities.

In the original song the theme song came from there was a lot more to it (what became the theme song was just the chorus) but even in that context it sounded pretty similar to me.

Ran into this while looking up some opinions on the similarity... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HydvceA1PAI

If you check out the credits for Creep, you'll see the writer of "The Air That I Breath" credited!

Interesting! I'd never heard that song before but there are definitely some very distinct similarities. It's not QUITE as much as the similarities between Creep and Theme from Steven Universe, though.

Gm is the vi of Bb.
I - VIalt then
And I don't know if you're familiar with "Baker Street," but the hook progression I'm talking about doesn't begin on I. The G in my particular instantiation is the I. So the Bb is iii, only major. And flatted. Which is why I decided to avoid that kind of notation in the first place.

If G is your tonic the. You have bIII - I (x3) then bVII - IV which is not uncommon. You are using mode mixture here and borrowing the bIII and bVII from the minor scale

At a glance there are less non-diatonic tones if you consider Bb as the central triad and think of G to be a vi with an altered tone which is trying to break our ears out of the key to lead us somewhere else - but hey the lid to the rules of theory have been torn off for about a hundred years by now
