Black Days

Balance Lost

Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
It's been 3 or 4 months since you were last paid
Your knees are really feeling the strain
You know you should stop playing
But these days it's one of the few things that keeps you going
The postman called but the letters are unopened
I know what they say about how much I owe them
Final notice or another arrears
They don't care where you go but you can't stay here
Nearly got it working, something always goes wrong
A farce from the past like Flanders & Swann
It's one of those weeks where everything breaks
The gasman cometh, nothing got fixed
It's that moment when your life shifts from being about what you could be to what you have been
No one listened when you spoke are cares when you sing
You weren't a rock star
You weren't anything

Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
Look to me for help, I got nothing to say
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
The people you rely on are turning away
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
It only takes a minute, your mind can change
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
Sleep on it, tomorrow's a new day

They gave us a choice, be part of something much wider in scope
Or take you ball and go home, be the outsider
But unity lost with only 48%
That's just under half they don't represent
The tabloid press stoking the residual
Feelings of hate against groups not individuals
Criminals that leave a bomb in a building
Cos the way into heaven is by blowing up children
How the hell did they reach that conclusion?
OF a world view that is just an illusion
What the bad luck, wrong place, wrong time
A poison that twists impressionable young minds
The sunshine never reaches the ground
Apocalypse now
They looked for a smoking gun that was never found
Never held to account
I don't trust this system to bring then instigators to justice

Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
Look to me for help, I got nothing to say
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
The people you rely on are turning away
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
It only takes a minute, your mind can change
Black days staring at the bottom of ashtrays
Sleep on it, tomorrow's a new day

Black Days
by Lichen Throat

They’re selling amulets down at the market.
People are boarding up windows and doors.
They say the plague has come back to London;
Those are the words that no one can ignore.
Heard there’s an outbreak out in the West End,
Heard that it started on Drury Lane.
All of my neighbors are keeping their distance;
Half of my neighbors are going insane.
The comet last year was a warning,
I should have moved away.
Soon we will all be in mourning,
Or have we come to doomsday?
Year of the plague--
These are black days.

Fevers are raging south of the river;
Nobody’s willing to set foot outside.
Even in the summer heat I still shiver.
A kiss or a handshake could be suicide.
I hear the dead cart picking up bodies,
Hauling them down to the the graveyard at night.
Nothing to eat but stale biscuits and hot tea;
I see no end to our desperate plight.
The quarantine signs are up next door;
I hear their moans through the wall.
Sequester myself on the top floor,
Lock up the door to the hall.
Year of the plague--
These are black days.

Six hundred dead in Aldgate.
Five hundred dead in Stepney.
Eight hundred dead in Whitechapel.

It seems the disease cannot be abated;
Nothing will help--not a prayer nor a drug.
This could go on ‘til the city’s vacated;
Mass graves are filled just as fast as they’re dug.
The autumn days have begun getting shorter.
Temperatures fall, and the breezes are cold.
Weekly death tolls from the mayor’s headquarters
Are starting to drop. Might we now be consoled?
The horror is finally receding
After 1665.
God seems no longer unheeding;
Thank him that I’m still alive.
Year of the plague--
These are black days.

Black Days - Dollar Bill & The Inkpoints

Heuristics Inc - Drums, synths, vocals
J$ - Synths, BG vox

Sneaking, slinking,
Creeping, crawling
Inching, oozing
Watch them rising, watch them falling

These are black days, black days
Back to front, wrong way round
These are black days, black days
Upside down, turned around

Sidle, scamper
Scuttle, Scurry
Flounder, slither
Like a snake down on its belly

CHORUS

Black days insidious
Twilight ahead of us
White knights will fight for us,
All things shall pass …
Black days insidious
White knights will fight for us but
We are them and they are us?

These are black days, black days
They are us and we are them
These are black days, black days
They are us and we are them x 2

Black Days- PJ

Shards of light, they hurt my eyes
Driving to a bleak sunrise
I pop a pill to help block out the pain
I start to drift so I set the cruise
'Cause I can't help but think of you
It's hard to stay in this blurry lane

Black days are here again
I can't believe you're gone
Driving all these miles to say
Goodbye to you in a place I don't belong

Dotted lines, they hold me in
Lead me back to where I've been
Thinking back to when I lived with you
Instead the miles are piling on
As I drive until the dawn
Dreading all the details on the loose

Black days are here again
I can't believe you're gone
Driving all these miles to say
Goodbye to you in a place I don't belong

Black days are here again
I can't believe you're gone
Driving all these miles to say
Goodbye to you in a place I don't belong.
