City in Fog

City in Fog - By MC Eric B
=====================

I was at a cafe
the one at 4th and Grand
enjoying a coffee
paper in my hand

When I heard a shot
and then a deadly scream
blood on the walls
time slowed like a dream

What haunts us most
has come to pass
the crunch of footsteps
over broken glass

I lay on the floor
the sirens they wailed
justice would come
yet no one was jailed

Chorus
=================================

In a city of fog
there's a man with no name
rising from ashes
of sorrow and shame

Fighting for truth
always doing what's right
helping the world
sleep in peace tonight

=================================

In darkened streets
an evil is lurking
the balance of power
no longer is working

Best watch your back
it comes from behind
grabbing your soul
and robbing it blind

Blurring the line
we all must walk
who will be next
on that chopping block?

Pick up the pieces
you must carry on
dare to be king
no longer a pawn

Chorus
=================================

In a city of fog
there's a man with no name
rising from ashes
of sorrow and shame

Fighting for truth
always doing what's right
helping the world
rest in peace tonight

=================================

[fade to end]

There's a city in fog
a man with no name
terror and fear
burn like a flame

Eric, you need to work on your short-term memory. The title is "City IN Fog" not "OF Fog".

You didn't write your song for the title so you can't submit it.

City In Fog

Turn on the searchlights
I think we've lost another chance to make amends
or just the notion that this was right.
All points attention
we've got a runaway in the streets tonight in the heart of town
and I'm hoping she comes to her senses.

CHORUS:
You know I'd welcome you back if you came around
If you could find your way back home to me
but you're out lost tonight in someone else's arms
In that city of fog that's in your mind.

I don't know what to say
If there's even something that could be said that hasn't been yet
I don't think that it would matter
You've made your decision
You say it's clear as day to you
even though you seem to see the light, to me the fog is blocking your view

CHORUS

And I'm tired of wishing
and I'm tired of being the one
who always has to forgive the other person
And I know that you're not coming
I know that even if this is a bad idea from the start
you'd rather be there where you are than back with me

CHORUS
"Out of all I've learned in Life,
You always keep your friends close to your heart,
cause they'll help you if you're falling down..."

Damn, poor Eric got jumped on hard...

I guess I better put up a notice to everyone before I get hunted down too...

The phrase "City in Fog" does not appear in my song, but the concept is about a city in fog... if you read the chorus, you'll see what I mean...

*puts on protective gear and grabs dog zapper*
"Out of all I've learned in Life,
You always keep your friends close to your heart,
cause they'll help you if you're falling down..."

I also initially read the title as "City of Fog." I'm glad I noticed before I started composing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CITY IN FOG - Naked Philosophy

Got out my rhyming dictionary,
My thesaurus and a box full of metaphors...

It troubled me that it stopped at the city limit
Like we were somehow singled out
We didn't need the distinction
And certainly not the shroud

CHORUS:
Driving out of a city in fog
And that was how it started
I knew my mind was not far behind
And that was how we parted

Is it a metaphor or simile?
Or is it just plain dumb?
I didn't know the distinction
I was only on the run

CHORUS

I didn't need to change it up
But the song got in the way
Back to your regular programming
Sorry for the delay

CHORUS

City In Fog

I framed a blank canvas, called it "A City In Fog"
I stood out next to an art show and sold it for a thousand bucks
Because people will buy anything even if it's just a piece of shit with googly eyes on it.

Hmm... my second creepy song in a row. I'm going to start getting a reputation. At least this one is creepy AND whimsical. I like to imagine it as the opening musical number in 'Tim Burton's Penny Lane'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The town undertaker is hatching a scheme
To poison the water supply
He keeps to himself and is only seen talking
To rats that he's training to spy

In a city in fog

The minister's wife is a gaunt little thing
I've never seen someone so frail
She only emerges at night to retrieve
The morphine that comes in the mail

In the city in fog
In the city in fog
The City of Fog is a city of storms
Where the fire can burn but it won't keep you warm

Every night when the clock strikes 12 we gather, silent and grim
To tell the stories of how it all was before the fog rolled in
The oldest of us can remember the sky; the blue had a certain charm
And what fun it was to play in the garden, before the flowers could do you harm

(bandoneón solo)

There in the branches of poisonous oak
Is a murderous murder of crows
They peck at the heads of the recently dead
Claiming the eyes of the people we know

In the city in Fog
In the city in Fog
The City of Fog is a city of gloom
Where everything's damp like the walls of a tomb

The city in fog

City in Fog
by Berkeley Social Scene

Hey walking through the park in twice the time
Just take it in slow in the humid sky

No one knows that the water is all gone
So hard to tell in the city in fog
The reservoirs will run dry

Hey this magical mist revives me
See the skyline shroud from visibility

No one knows that the water is all gone
So hard to tell in the city of fog
The reservoirs have run dry

Run dry
Rivers run dry
Run dry
No water

The fog lifts from my eyes and I realise, I should have never let you go
As the fog rolls in from the skies over the Cook Strait and I realise I should never let you go

Glad to see others taking the creepy film-noir route. Me too.

City in Fog
Hans Gruber

it's easy-peasy getting in
alls you needs some cash to spend
but if you try to move on out
you better come down from your cloud

junky jesus on his meds
drinking blood and breaking bread
you can see straight through his skin
how he suffers for your sins

they get down on their knees to pray to their pitiless god
they wander 'round the streets all day
it's a city in fog

iphone faggots all plugged in
looking sharp and razor thin
but they can't see two feet ahead
they're flying high on internet

they get down on their knees to pray to their pitiless god
they wander 'round the streets all day
it's a city in fog

things get better after dark
that's when zorro leaves his mark
if you cannot run with him
he'll cut your heart and leave you dead

they get down on their knees to pray to their pitiless god
they wander 'round the streets all day
it's a city in fog
Evil never looked so good.

City In Fog by Jan Krüger

You wake up, it's another day
You open the window
You look out, things are grey in grey
Everything's in flow
All light dispersing, never to arrive
You cannot leave your house, how will you survive

You cannot see
How things will be
You'd better stay
This is not your day

Hold on a second, this is not the end
Though you may feel alone
The world is still here, no need to pretend
That everything's unknown
A city in fog is not impossible to roam
You're not locked up in your home

You cannot see
How things will be
But you can feel
That you are real

The mist is lifting
Your view is shifting
You kept trying and now the city's back
Time to get back on track
To get moving

Another dawn
The fog is gone
The sun is here
Your sight is clear

Mine's about my inability to form deep and lasting emotional relationships. I'm sure that'll emerge as a recurring theme, too, should I stick around.

City in Fog by slats

There was a time
only you and I could
ever hope to live this down
Oh I know
it was a long, long time ago
that you first went underground

chorus:

City in Fog
I can't see you clearly
the light's broken in my eyes
City in Fog
Shards of light surround us
and carry you into the night

Your pretty face
it still haunts my nightmares
and it laughs with me in dreams
I open my eyes
your image fades before me
blends into the background scene

(chorus)

I need love - to give me a new day
love - to tell me what to say
love - to get out of my own way
I need love - something I can keep
love - to keep me off the street
love - to lull me back to sleep

(chorus)

How a song with so few words got oh so long, I don't understand. You should all be grateful that I didn't go for the planned third verse!

City in Fog

Look out below
There's a cynic coming down
No one you know
I've seen him around
Expectations rising, he's no longer trying
To dream the impossible deam anymore

A bird in a snare
A fire in a hole
A cracked violin
Beauty grown old
A warm willow tree
Frozen in a bog
A boy turned to stone
A city in fog

He's up all night
Fire in his head
He'll be alright
If you believe what he said
There's a lover in a distance
Years away
After all the pieces are put away

A bird in a snare
A fire in a hole
He's a cracked violin
A beauty grown old
A weird willow tree
Frozen in a bog
A boy turned to stone
A city in fog

Narrator:
Well there's a city on a hill where a little girl was killed
and they never found the man who did the crime
and now the city can't move on 'cause their little girl is gooooonnnnne
so the city's in a fog most of the time

Chosen One:
I killed this little girl just 7 days ago
I chopped her up and I hid her away in my cellar down below
Now she was cute, I can't deny
She had a sparkle in her eye
but I knew the plan, and I knew why
This little girl HAD TO DIE!

Master:
You are a good and faithful servant
You are the master's Chosen One
The little girl was a necessary sacrifice
With her gone, our war can be won

Chosen One:
This guilt is eating me, I can't believe what I did
How could I have possibly killed this innocent little kid
And how the hell could this little child somehow hold the key
How could her death now bring about our victory?

Master:
You're asking far too many questions
How dare you doubt the master's plan
Your doubt will only bring destruction
How dare you turn your back on the clan

(rippin' solo x2)

Narrator:
Well now the Master had no plan, he was just an evil man
who liked to mess with people just for fun
So now the villagers are pissed and here comes a little twiiiiissst
The Master led them to the Chosen One

Pissed Villagers/Master
There he is, the murderer, the man who killed the kid
We'll string him up, we'll burn him alive, he'll pay for what he did
This man truly deserves to die in the most horrific way
He did the crime and now it's time, we're gonna make him pay

Chosen One:
I know you all think I'm a monster, and I can't deny that claim
I only ask that you'd listen, before you feed me to the flame
The man who has brought you here, is not at all the man that he claims to be
No he is the monster, for he's the one, who created meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

(at this point in the story the Chosen One busts out a flying V and proceeds to play a passionate 16 bar guitar solo in an attempt to appease the villagers)

Narrator:
The Chosen One was burned alive, the villagers ignored his final plea
And the Master slipped into the night, the man behind the murders now is free
The story's over now
The bad guy won
He turned the villagers
Into savage killers just for fun.

Shitty IN Fog

I live in the shitty
Surrounded by a wall
It keeps Mongorians out
It's made of rock and roll

You can see it from space
Like a giant snake
But when you're on the ground
It just looks like a shitty wall

Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic

I was born in the shitty
Just like my dad and his
We built the wall
With blood, sweat and piss

I guard the wall
Protect it from harm
Don't let no one in
Especially Genghis Khan

Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic

My friends are shitty people
With shitty jobs and shitty pay
But I work on the shitty wall
Like my dad and his, all shitty day

I married a shitty woman
Had 23 shitty kids
22 go to school in the shitty
One is special like me and goes to school in the yttihs

Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic
Gof ni ytic

City in Fog - Elaine DiMasi

Mentioned the title to a friend on saturday, who suggested I write about a character with Alzheimer's feeling like all their memories are behind a fog.
And by the way, I also struggled not to write to "City of Fog"

I lived in the city in near the trolley stop
Yes it was the one by the candy shop
I remember like it was yesterday
I remember chasing boys who came out to play
But I can't remember the name of that spot

It's not very easy in the shopping mall
I can't see things I remember at all
It's just a noise and confusion
And then somebody driving me home through the city in fog

We danced to the bands in the big dance hall
Our fancy shoes and beads and all
Maybe we'd fall in love with a man
Maybe he would ask for our hand

I remember that he must have married me
I remember that he must have married me
But I don't recognize when I see him today

In my city in fog today in my city in fog
I ask for the time I ask if it's rain
I ask it again I ask it again
And it's fog again
All fog again in my city
