Right There at the Edge
by Jon Eric
(with apologies to E. Costello)

Tech support
I've got a badly broken brain
I spilled tequila on it
After I
Left it out in the rain

Everyone
Does something stupid sometimes
Poorer and wiser for it
You can shake your head
But it isn't a crime

We're both lost in the hedge
On either end of the maze
Come out to the ledge
I'll be down by the gate
Right there at the edge
Of a brilliant mistake

After school
I found you swimming in your books
I had to drag you from them
Never mind
The stupid teachers and their looks

We're both lost in the hedge
On either end of the maze
Come out to the ledge
I'll be down by the gate
Right there at the edge
Of something brilliant
And scanalous and beautiful and fake

Officer
You gotta help my find my car
I left my lover in it
You could use
A little middle-class noir

In the end
It all comes down to what you risk
And nothing beats the way you
Feel just as you steal
A furtive and forbidden kiss

We're both lost in the hedge
On either end of the maze
Come out to the ledge
I'll be down by the gate
Right there at the edge
Of a brilliant mistake

Right There At The Edge - Paco del Stinko

I draw my breath in, and I hold it there
And then I exhale, with no room to spare
I put my tongue up in the roof of my mouth
I want to scream but I won't let it out

You said you'd take me dancing
Right there at the edge
You surely kept your promise
One I'll never forget

If I were a surfer, I'd ride a wave
But I can go further, when I'm your slave
I put my finger up to my lips
Silent - save for serpentine hiss

You said you'd take me dancing
Right there at the edge
You surely kept your promise
One I'll never forget

I can't forget
I won't forget
I can't forget
I'll never forget
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

if only I could. My recording computer lies in pieces.

[EDIT] it could be argued that Action Strasse broke it. I knew I shouldn't have loaded the original as a reference track.

All my plans have turned to sand
tryin' to cheat denial
All her scams have broke this man
and left me in denial.

Rolled the dice, tried it twice
what's the use of it anyway?
Try again, it's ok
she won't be there anyway.

Don't look now – it's goin' down
right there at the edge of town.

Right There On The Edge
(apologies about On versus At in the title)

"They're on their way!", a crazy man told me, while
watching the skies like Moulder and Scully. He
preceded to scold me, then reached out to hold me.
"We're not alone son! Run back home please!"

"I don't have time for conspiracy theories
old man, understand, listen to me clearly:
you're a crackpot, stop! I grow weary.
Go and drink your punch with Dr. Timothy Leary!"

He shook his head with a face forlorn
and his sorrowful eyes couldn't hide that he mourned
that I'm more than hesitant to be pleasant and warm.
"They'll arrive in a storm: you've been warned."

I walked away; the man's clearly insane
with some damage to the veins all up in his brains.
Then the sky turned black and it started to rain
and the wind howled loud like a hurricane...

------------------------
Think you're alone when you eat or sleep? Just
keep your head down, go along with the sheep
and never believe that something could be
right there on the edge of the galaxy.

------------------------

And now I'm ashamed of the way that I smarted off
to the old-man who was so kind-hearted. Yeah,
the regrets started when the clouds were parted
and the ship came down. I swear my heart didn't

stop racing as the metal placings
opened up on the front and I was facing a
greyish creature with features raising up
out its neck as it spoke! "We're embracing the

language you speak to declare your defeat.
We've flown from our homes with our own battle fleet.
We come from the stars. They're too far to see:
right there, on the edge of the galaxy.

You claim to be the one and only
intelligent life; that's a slight fallacy.
So my pals and me flew across the seas
of stars to impart that you should've believed."

------------------------
Think you're alone when you eat or sleep? Just
keep your head down, go along with the sheep
and never believe that something could be
right there on the edge of the galaxy.

------------------------

I stood in a moment of shock and awe. I
couldn't talk at all 'til I picked up my jaw
off the floor, then of course asked "What's the cause
of this race through space to point out my flaws?"

Without a pause, the creature replied:
"It's not our first time. We sent our spies in
human disguise to all civilized
places in the world, and you hurled out lies

that we were crazy. You couldn't realize
that you're not alone. Now everyone dies!!"
To my surprise, my eyes start to blur
and I'm not really sure but I think I heard,

when the lasers fired and the Earth was burned
in a flash to ashes: lesson learned.
That's the fate you earn when you don't believe
they're right there on the edge of the galaxy.

------------------------
Think you're alone when you eat or sleep? Just
keep your head down, go along with the sheep
and never believe that something could be
right there on the edge of the galaxy.

------------------------

From Deep Space Nine to Aliens 3,
the planets out there have been sending
a sign describing all our endings that
we watch on TV while spending

the time at home just wondering why
we never see cool stuff from all the sci-fi
movies and sigh cause we'll never be
right there on the edge of the galaxy.

Right there at the edge of my vision is a girl
Who I don't believe I've ever met but I know I'd like to know
Right there at the edge of my vision is a vision
And the voice inside my head is telling me it's time to go.

Right there at the corner of my conscience is a wife
And two kids who will be waiting back at home for me tonight
Righ there at the edge of my thoughts is the thought
That I'm getting into something my heart knows isn't right.

Right there at the edge of a choice I'm gonna make
I know that either way I go could be a big mistake.

Right there at the point where everything tips over
Stands a girl who's dressed all in black
Right there on the tip of my tongue are the words
I know that if I say them I can never take them back.

right there at the edge by heuristics inc.

right there at the edge
is where i have my place
lonely spit of rock
between the sea and space

eventually
carried by the flow
everything comes my way
water pouring down below

catching things in the net
i’m amazed at what i find
flotsam washes in
what civilization left behind

rimbow in the depths
nothing much down below
some days i’d like to jump
but i never could, you know
someday i'd like to jump
but i never could
you know

Right here at the edge
[there ...at the edge]
I don't have the time to expect
I don't have the time to digress
[mirror?]
must go forward - not back like the rest

you superceeded my dreams,
[right there at the edge ...]
either wide awake or while sleeping...
[i don't have the time to digress...]
so I stand here right at the top,
and look down.
[right there at the edge ...]
sometimes I forget to start screaming

when I jump and fall, imagine my surprise!
[in-vision (my) surprise ...]
when I hit the ground like a stone -
spread so quick and messy
so alone

watched in shock by the crowd
falling slowly
so loud - without making a sound!

i watch, see it all ...
outside of myself
falling, counting the lies
written by me and read by my own sight
[there you are ...]

that's what you get - when you
rip the wool off. of. your. eyes!
[there ... ai....]

that's what you get right
[right there at the edge]
right here at the edge

when you let your parts reduce down to a sum
that you're volume's been reduced down from
a shout of
your loud happy place ...
so you swallow disgrace
and live right at your edges;
with a fake, tight smile
stapled 'cross your face

...out the window of the human race
out the window of the human race

Right There At The Edge

By Steve Durand

Right there at the edge
Of time
There is an epoch there for us
To find

If you could just expand your mind
Oh yeah
Then you could see the edge of time

Right there at the edge
Of space
There is a refuge
For the human race

And it could be a better place
Oh yeah
If we could reach the edge of space

When you become one with the universe
You see all that ever was or ever will be

Right there on a
Higher plane
There can be consciousness outside
Your brain

Intellect cannot be constrained
Oh yeah
If we can reach a higher plane

When you become one with the universe
You see all that ever was or ever will be

Right there at the edge
Of time
There is an epoch there for us
To find

If you could just expand your mind
Oh yeah
If you could just expand your mind

Right there at the edge
Right there at the edge

of insanity -
just you and me,
once we stood so close.
I said: Don't take that step
it could be too far
but you tried to catch it all .

Right there at the edge
Right there at the edge

Me without you
(feeling) helpless and blue;
once we stood so close.
What happened to
the friend I once knew?
So sad our time is through.

Times are changing, life goes on.
What used to be - now is gone.
But still I have to admit
my heart just can't go over it

Right there at the edge
Right there at the edge

No, I couldn't help you
although I tried to -
had to watch you slip away.
And I still cannot bear
seeing you there
drowning in that lake of liquid poison.

Future, future - what will last?
But can't get my head out of the past.
I wish we could start a-new
or let it be forever...

What you get ain't always what you want,
Sometimes you quit before you even start,
Don't stop to think, Don't even blink,
Just grit you teeth and cling to your beliefs.
Look before you leap before it's too late,
Place your bets and clench your fists,
And if it all falls apart that's an excellent start,
Because you can't escape a cage you didn't make.

You're right on the edge on the edge on the edge,
Your best chance is anybody's guess,
And when it's all been said and the blood is shed
You'll be lucky if you ain't dead, boy,
Lucky if you ain't dead

See a star and wish upon a life
You never knew, you never even tried.
No going back, no swerving off the track,
The deck was stacked, you never had the knack.
They call your number, there's no looking back,
And what happens in the past, stays in the past.
Always comb your part and clean your plate,
And take pride in all the ashes you accumulate.

You're right on the edge on the edge on the edge,
Forever dumbstruck and forever force fed,
And the fate of your fate is sifting through your hands
But you're lucky that you ain't dead

What you're left, little more than your breath,
Your regrets are the best you ever get,
Don't sigh, it ain't worth the time,
We all assume that the labels are true.
Chose your own adventure and meet the same ends,
Make the same friends again and again,
Buy the same brands, shake the same hands,
Try the best you can not to be that bad.

You're right on the edge on the edge on the edge,
You're right on the edge on the edge on the edge,
You're right on the edge on the edge on the edge,
On the edge on the edge on the edge

Well if it ain't just one damn thing after another
Can turn another channel - cain't turn another page
Don't need any more talkin heads invadin my livin room
Don,t whether to break into tears or into a rage

There ain't no up or down nomore
Everybody's right and everybody's wrong
But I ain't anyone - and I ain't wrong or right
And everybody wants to know - which side I'm on

And i'm right there at the edge between screamin and cryin
At the edge between givin up and acting out
At the edge between quitin and tryin
No matter which way I look both sides are down
Both sides are down
Both sides are down

Well I can't sleep, but I can't get outta bed
Helluva handbasket, that we put stuff in
And its all goin to hell, on the afternoon express
We best inform it,s next of kin

Can,t speed up
Can't slow down,
Can't get off
can't go around!

So I'm - ........

Right There At The Edge
lyrics: E. Niveous Rayside
music: Berkeley Social Scene

Every day here felt like a century
It's been so long since I was free
These old clothes I barely recognize
Brings back memories of another life
The last three years trapped behind bars
Collected my share of battle scars
Thought I was gonna lose my mind
Couldn't wait to leave it all behind

Now I'm right there at the edge
I'm the king of the world again
Now I'm right there at the edge
And I'm never looking back again

The buzz outside like a siren's call
Lure of the streets, lost in its thrall
Dreaming of my girl, her angel face
Hungering to get back in the race
Felt like I counted a million days
Plotted a million plans of escape
Now the time has finally arrived
I'm taking back control of my life

(Lick)
(Chorus)

I'm saying goodbye
To this little piece of hell
Good riddance
To this prison cell

(Chrous)
(Chrous)

(Outro lick)
