Suggestions for new forum sections

Post by Lunkhead »

How about a "Music Gear Talk" section next to "Help and How To"? I want to talk about music gear (eg guitar pedals) without necessarily asking for help or learning how to.

And what about "Video Games" along with Books, Television, Movies, etc.? It doesn't seem very intuitive to me that game related threads are in Monkey Business.

I think just general gear chatter is good for the Help & How To section. The goal there is for people to be able to search that section for info, so putting geartalk there is good.

I'll make a Video Game section if some people chime in for it on this thread and you volunteer to moderate. ;)

I think there's too many sections as it is. I don't really want to see this turn into the poe-news.com forums where there's separate sections for every single little thing and everyone ends up having to check everything every time.

On the other hand I do like how I don't have to check things I don't care about, so. And phpBB makes it a little more convenient to not have to worry about this stuff too. But still.

In conclusion, I am intoxicated. We should have a separate section for drunk posts.

The fdrink section, I'll mod that one. we'll have thought provoking and insightful banter. Topics such as:
Acceptable places to puke when there isn't a toilet available
How much cussing is ok when telling a story while fdrinked
Hang over remedies that work
Which states in the U.S. allow you to be fdrink in public
Is it really a crime to not wear pants?
Food to eat and not to eat while intoxicated

Fuck it, there should just be an entire fdrink web site.

I think I'd like to know how much work is involved before volunteering to moderate a new Video Games section. ;)

Can we have a Buy and Sell section? T'would be interesting to see what people want to get rid of, plus, if it takes ebay outta the equation, great.

Just what we need, more spammer-bait. Why not just use your local Craigslist?

I don't have a local craigslist. And how would a gear wanted/for sale section attract more spam?

Trust me, all sorts of innocuous things end up showing up on Google search results which people end up finding. I ended up blocking my site's forum from getting indexed on search engines because of things like that (and ever since I haven't gotten any spam). Anywhere that potential sales are involved is a place that spammers will start to target, and if it looks lucrative enough they'll just post messages manually and even try to look like a member of the community (even though they clearly won't be).

I'm in favor of the Video Games forum as well. And if you need a mod, I'll volunteer. Hell, video games have been a major part of my life since I was 6 years old (22 years worth).
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

If there were a decent video games forum here then I could stop spending so much time over at Portal of Evil, since that's the main reason I hang out there. And then without their influence I would become a nicer person in general.

So, yes, video game forum. Totally.

Yeah, a video game forum wouldn't attract spam at all.

We talk about music, home recording, and name-drop (relatively) popular bands all the time. We have a politics section. Sometimes, porn gets mentioned. There will be reasons for spam-bots to find us. Till then, let's just talk about what we want to talk about.

I say yea to a video games section. I'd volunteer to mod it, but I can't be trusted to check around on a daily basis anymore.

A Buy & Sell section would be useful because we all presumably trust each other more than most eBay sellers.

That's about all I have to say. Yep.

I reckon a video game section would get more activity than a buy/sell might. In the only two years that I've been around, I can only think of one respected member putting a link up to some of his guitars that were for sale. But being the lousy capitalist that I kind of am, I'd rather offer a good deal to someone here than scrounge for every penny on the Bay. If I ever sell anything, that is.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

I think Sven was just trying to somehow throw my words back at me in a way which makes no sense. The words "for sale" are much more likely to generate spammers than the words "video games."
