KO. Here are links to mp3s of my choices for this year. While I like them all, the Pretenders tune is one of my most favorite songs, if that matters.

Pretenders - Talk of the Town

Translator - Everywhere That I'm Not

Junior Brown - Party Lights

Nervous Eaters - Loretta
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Charlie, I've said this before, but Caravan Ray should do music like Nervous Eaters. I swear, with his guitar, voice and back up voice, then some balls of fire piano and Steve Durand, he could be the new shit.

By the way Chuck, I think we're brothers from different Mothers. Your list is great.

I love listening to everyone's picks. Not only does it remind me of songs I've forgotten about, but it lets me see a little more into the people I talk to everyday.

 Heh! I have never heard of the Nervous Eaters - but hearing that song, yes - me and them may also be brothers from different Mothers.

I'm telling you John, a bad ass piano player and Steve, you could kick some arse. Generic is pretty fucking good on the keys. Both play real time, so there's no dicking around. I'd love to hear that trio.

"New prize announcement from Soul Tree Records-

Since all of last year's winners were too humble to claim their prizes, we have come up with a new prize system that better relates to the spirit of the Gift Of Music. From now on, each year we will choose a different worthy charity for the GOM to support. This year we have chosen the JDRF

Grand prize winner will receive a $50 itunes Gift Card, a nifty special edition Gift of Music T-shirt, a Soul Tree Records Prize Pack, and have $100 donated in their name to the JDRF

First Runner Up will receive a $25 itunes Gift Card, a nifty special edition Gift of Music T-shirt, a Soul Tree Records Prize Pack, and have $75 donated in their name to the JDRF

Second Runner Up will receive a $15 itunes Gift Card, a nifty special edition Gift of Music T-shirt, a Soul Tree Records Prize Pack, and have $25 donated in their name to the JDRF

Third Runner Up will receive an honorable mention and pat on the back. Maybe a T-shirt. We'll see.

Songs must be recieved on time to be eligible for prizes. Late entries will be posted, but will not be eligible for prizes. The winners will be chosen by their peers - voting will be open only to those participating in this year's Gift Of Music, and will be conducted by email. No one may vote for their own entry. Submission instructions and deadlines will be announced after assignments have been given.Good luck, and may everyone have a very merry GOM!"

That's awesome! But I confess that I had no idea what JDRF stood for. Here, for anyone else who needs to look it up, is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This makes my favorite sidefight even better. :D

Here are my picks - 3 disco classics and a Eurovision winner from the '70s. I "pity the fool" who gets these! that said, these were all playlist hits at my recent wedding and I seriously love them all so I hope people don't take the piss. If not for me, do it for my long-suffering husband!

1. Baccara - Yes Sir I can Boogie*
2. Ottawan - D.I.S.C.O.
3. Tina Charles - I Love to Love
4. Severine - Un Banc, Une Arbre, Une Rue

*Bonus points for attempting the crazy accent.

HEY
this is a rather odd way to introduce this topic!
Congrats on the wedding! You should tell us more about that but maybe not in this thread.
I will also pick playlist hits from my not-as-recent wedding.

Hi everyone! It's been a while!

The Hell Yeahs would like to participate. We have renewed faith in GOM, thanks to Glenn's cover and all of the encouragement we were given to enter last year.

Songs to be determined soon!

Ditto for me.

I would also like to put out the idea of letting the winners choose between an iTunes gift card and an Amazon gift card that could be used at the DRM-free Amazon MP3 store.

I will do this. My songs (now with links!):

In the Sun - Joseph Arthur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QotZ7TIa ... re=related)--live version, but at least better than the horrible covers available on YouTube.
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA0k6cLB ... re=related)--ignore the stupid homemade video.
Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfm-17pu6SQ)--YES. Check out the hair.
Invisible Sun - The Police (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hFydh-QhPA)--still an awesome video 25 years later.

I'm in. And this time I'm not going to bother trying to pick obscure songs or hipster-approved bands or songs that I think the secret santa never heard or anything, I'm just going to pick four songs I really like no matter how lame people think they are.

"Badlands" by Bruce Springsteen
"Blue eyes cryin in the rain" by Willie Nelson
"I am, I'm me" by Twisted Sister
"The Watchman's Gone" by Gordon Lightfoot

Hey, congratulations! I'll bet that was one hell of a fun wedding. Although, I'd wager it would have been even better had you been your own wedding band.
