A lot more people are doing vote-by-mail in California now, which has actually led to a shred of hope on Prop 8 since it turns out the vote-by-mail ballots haven't been counted yet, and apparently there's somewhere between 3-4 million uncounted votes. Since progressive/liberal types tend to also be the ones to embrace these new things, it's quite possible that Prop 8 may fail after all.

Same goes for Al Franken over Norm Coleman in Minnesota, and Mark Begich over Ted Stevens in Alaska.

However, I'm not keeping my hopes up for those. 57 seats is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, the Georgia run-off in a month is a good chance for 58.

I feel the same way. Out here in Oregon, in addition to the option of mailing your ballot in, there's drop-off points where you can physically hand your ballot to a volunteer.

At least, I hope they were official volunteers.

In California, if you don't trust vote-by-mail you can also fill out the ballot mailer and bring it to the polling location on election day (without having to stand in line). But the ballots still aren't counted until the rest of the absentee ballots are.
