Miracle at St. Anna

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

Spike Lee directed this movie. I had low expectations from the previews because I thought it was a war movie, which I don't really care for, but it turned out to be a really good movie. I love how this movie starts you in complete confusion and builds your understanding one piece at a time. Not a new concept, but this movie uses different ways to get you there. It starts in the winter of 1984 in New York City and then switches to World War II, in fall of 1944 in Tuscany. It combines an odd mix of reality, superstition and fantasy. The war parts made me think of Pan's Labyrinth, but without the freaky creatures. There is one scene that is absolutely horrific that will make your blood boil and may even traumatize some. I would not recommend letting your kids see this unless they are mature enough to deal with graphic and adult situations.
