Nur Ein IX Round Seven "The Usual Bravura"
How come no one is debating the challenge yet? Is it because no one thinks they're moving on?
According to Urban Dictionary " a-game. To do your best possible in any endeavor; not just in sports. Ya'll dudes better come wit it, i mean, bring ya a-game and shit."

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
I think someone actually accused Frankie of challenge non-compliance during the last round of Nur Ein II, because they felt like Frankie didn't choose the genre he's best at. So, y'know, weirder things have happened.
I'm looking forward to hearing Nein entries from those of y'all who don't make the cut tonight!

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
Man. Frank will never let me live that down. Just to clarify, I didn't "accuse" anybody of anything. Somebody's "A Game" is subjective. fbf is one of my favorite fighters, and has been since back when I was just a listener and not yet a participant. But for me at that time my favorite type of song from him, what I would have then considered to be his "A Game" for me, was his guy and guitar stuff. For example, "Bullseye Girl", love that song, so good! The final round that Ein I didn't really love either entry. Frank's song has a lot going on. It's like Steely Dan/yacht rock part of the time (whole tone scales and super long keyboard solo) and Stax/Motown (I know he likes one and not the other but I can't remember which is which right now, but, in the chorus, that's when you hear the RnB/soul sound). It really came out of left field for me as a listener and it didn't really resonate with me. I'm sure he put a ton of effort into it because it was a well written song with a big arrangement and really great production.

I'll take Steely Dan over GnG any day. That was the year (Nur Ein 2) that I actually voted for Frankie in the finals. The other 2 times I preferred the other guy. I was impressed with that track! I still enjoy it.

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
I always say that one of the fun things about Nur Ein is that the judges aren't generally given any specific guidelines about how to determine whether someone's met the challenge, or what to do in such an instance.Lunkhead wrote:Man. One of the other fun things about Nur Ein is that everyone's a judge in that last round, so so you simply graded the songs by the criteria you felt were most appropriate. Can't begrudge you for that.
I encourage all the eliminated contestants to vote, and to use whatever criteria you want when deciding!

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
I didn't actually factor the challenge into my (half) vote. To me "bring your A-game" is like a non-challenge, and is more of a break for the finalists from having to deal with the challenges, and an encouragement to do their best. At no point did I think "Frank didn't bring his A game so he's disqualified" or anything like that. I don't want to sound defensive, I'm just trying to be clear because Frank and I really have discussed this a bunch already. I'd prefer not to have other people ascribing thoughts or behavior to me that didn't happen as that will just make it all more contentious.

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
Can a judge please chime about whether or not the judges are also voting in the final round this time? I feel like that's something that has been handled inconsistently over the years and at this point I'm not sure what the policy is.

I've just googled 'bravura' on dictionary.com to see what it actually means and how to pronounce it.

Re: Nur Ein! IX - Final round
I'm pretty sure that the rule is Judges 4 and 5 are allowed to vote. But Judges 2 and 3 have to sit it out. Judge 1 can do whatever he likes.Lunkhead wrote:Can a judge please chime about whether or not the judges are also voting in the final round this time?
