Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
Into the song's "structure"...?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_structure
Does that mean instead of a bridge the song should have a meow? Or instead of a third verse it should have a moo?

My take is that they wanted to make sure you don't just throw a random animal sound in but instead make it a real element of the song.

Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
There was some discussion on how to word the challenge in the judges' forum, and perhaps "structure" was technically not the correct term. Pink Floyd's "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" was mentioned, and I believe Floyd gives some good examples on songs that integrate animal sounds into their "structure", and those that just feature animal sounds which are not necessarily an integral part of the song. A very good example for a PF song that integrates animal sounds effectively is "Cirrus Minor", for which I'd go as far as to say that the birdsong is a crucial part of the song which, if omitted, would deprive the song of most of its surreal quality. (Another PF song which integrates animal sounds in this way is "Seamus" - though, arguably, not a good one.)
That being said, this challenge is meant to be fun - it's a first round challenge, after all. If you only add a tiny sprinkling of animal sounds somewhere in your song and don't make it part of its structure, you surely are lazy, but I won't be the one to call for your disqualification.

Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
See, the other judges are much more supportive than me
I would say as I do every year I'm a judge that to my knowledge, there has never been a disqualification based on failing to meet the challenge. Too hard to prove, I guess but even Mr. Miaow didn't get shot down on a challenge front. (and I only choose that previous contestant because they would *rocked* this challenge).
I may well be wrong (and wait Nur Ein gurus to prove me so) but I really wouldn't worry about it. Channel that energy into making your next song even better, folks ...
Nur Ein and all that!

Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
I'm just being snarky and pedantic and pointing out that integrating animal sounds "into your song's structure" doesn't actually make any sense, when taken literally. It's like "Use animal sounds as your song's tempo". If you just want to emphasize that the sounds should be an integral part of the song, you could just say "Use animal sounds as an integral part of your song".
Anyway, that's more than enough judge trolling from me, sorry...

Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
So don't take it literally. Although ...
structure - ˈstrʌktʃə/ noun
1. the arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex.
"the two sentences have equivalent structures"
synonyms: construction, form, formation, shape, composition, fabric, anatomy, make-up, constitution.
Perhaps, I at least would grant you, it could have been phrased 'song's structure' but really .. just make your song good.

I put ape sounds in my "Watertight". In Nur Ein IX to satisfy the "use a family member" challenge.
Do I get extra points?

Oh, and BTW - here's something I forgot about. I think I told you sometime last year that I posted your "keys" video on here to get some feedback for you. A few people had s listen and commented:

Re: Nur Ein XI- Round One
Shit this sucks. It's been such a busy week, no time so far and I have to drive to Montreal Saturday/Sunday to pick up my daughter from school so basically I I have a few hours to pull something out of my ass tomorrow (while finishing a final video edit for a job) and submit before I hit the road Saturday morning. All I have is a basic idea and some word ideas scratched on a scrap of paper. And beer.

you're lucky you have an ass. My dog is not cooperating, I can't get her to make any noises for my structure.

Don't forget the shot of whiskey to go along with itbgm wrote:All I have is a basic idea and some word ideas scratched on a scrap of paper. And beer.
BTW, it's interesting looking at the lyrics posted that up to now, there are like three songs about the profession, but only one about the beverage. (I'm fine either way - the ambiguity was what I liked about this title)
