Song Fight submission deadline always in standard time

Post by Chumpy »

Would it be possible to change the submission deadline language on the site from PST to simply 'Pacific Time', that way it won't need to change when we switch from PST to PDT, and if for some reason the submission deadlines get super strict at some point this won't cause people to fits.

This unfortunately falls into a Bermuda triangle of: a) much more effort to fix than you'd think due to legacy code, b) not really very important to the admins relative to e.g. making sure all the submission emails come through properly, and c) we collectively don't have much time to spend on admin and development of the site. :/ This will be fixed in "songfight 2.0", which will happen some day.

It's fixed on the Jukebox. You can also sign up there to get emails about new titles which include the deadline in your local time zone. On the Jukebox, anything is possible! :)

What if it was GMT? Would that solve part A of the triangle?

Americans don't understand GMT. Most of us don't even seem to be able to understand the concept of "other timezones" in the first place, so ... ;)

Heck, my mom doesn't even understand the concept of "people don't get up at the crack of dawn," much less how my crack of dawn is an hour behind hers.

And this is why I love iOS's "do not disturb" schedule.

... define 'fixed'.

If it helps, consider GMT is like DMC except it rocks around alright on time, without the tricky
