The New Ugly - a Nur Ein review podcast

Post by Manhattan Glutton »

I thought it would be fun to try making a podcast around Nur Ein. I'm going to try to get more in-sync with the rounds.

Clearly if I can review songs with my friend a few beers in, your criticism is welcome.

Heh, really enjoyed Ben's commentary, too bad he's not a judge!

I just started listening and I immediately wanted to make my own Nur Ein review podcast, just to invalidate your opening line "the only podcast where you'll hear Nur Ein reviews". :P

Heh, I felt exactly the same way Lunkhead, if you want a co-host, let me know.

More reviews! If you want to do a 'Summary Review' of each song, I'll plop the text into the Video distribution.
I'll have to dip the audio on the @#%$#'s so they can go on PEG access channels, but it's available nationwide on the Telvue channel repository.

Hoping to be only a few weeks behind real time with them.

It's almost as much work as recording a short song. Go for it. :P

Is Skyping in some contestants something we should aim for... maybe when they're cut? I don't want to take up songmaking time.

I promise we'll get better. And drink less beer.

It was fun to listen to you guys banter. You had some valid points. It stings more to hear it than to read it.
If I had heard this before round 1, I don't know if I would have changed my round 1 entry...

It'd like to hear the Lunkhead and Chumpy show.

I like it. I have heard some meandering podcasts, and I like that this is long-form but still retains a structure while it maintains its chatty feel. Good exchange of ideas and the rapport between you works. This is a cool contribution, especially to people who are maybe a little bit obsessive over Nur Ein. Like me. =)

That was a very fun listen! Thanks for doing that guys! Thanks for the kind words MG! I had similar feelings to most of the songs as you. As for Ben......he was a very entertaining personality for a podcast. I think he was informative and insightful for vocals. Frankly I'm surprised he didn't knock me for my vocals. To be told the song isn't Irish Jiggy enough just sounds crazy to me. (Tell him to go listen to our Byron Bay).

I hope you guys keep it up, I will certainly listen!

I"m about half way in to the podcast, and I think you have something there. I only have a 10 minute commute, but I waited until the current song was reviewed before leaving my car. That's a good sign. It also makes me late for work, but that's another issue.

So, I listened to your podcast. Good job. Very entertaining.

Until you got to me. You seemed to describe me as some travelling Lothario chasing women on Tinder. That is a flat out lie.

I used OK Cupid.

Details are important.

But tell your mate he was pretty much 100% correct about my profile. It read " hi, I'm an Australian musician, who wants to have dinner with me". Worked like a charm. ;)

I'm mastering it right now. Should be soon.

You can find the podcast on iTunes, so any podcast app will allow you to subscribe and automatically get updates, if you're into that. I like podcasts.

I enjoy these a lot!
Thank you Ben for putting Skub on your bottom this week, made me totally feel better about being on your bottom last week;)
(That was just crazy talk, he totally nailed the challenge).

I like the top 3 and bottom 3 bit, any reason we don't get it from Mike as well?

thanks for the time and effort! very fun!

Probably because he's already voted? It seems Mike and Ben record the podcast after Mike's finished judging, but before the results are published. So we're getting Ben's fresh opinion, but Mike's heard the songs over and over by that point? If you want, you can listen to the podcast again, and try to guess which judge was Mike. Compare the judges scores, the reviews and the podcasts. Or just guess. Mike liked ZDB, so he's not judge 1. My guess is he was judge 2 this week.

Yeah, I figure you get enough of my opinions and rankings, and there's something to be said about anonymous judging and maintaining the enigma.

Haha this is cool.

I'm glad my oblique lyrics didn't detract from song too much. I think I can now reveal it's about evolution and farting. My gf wanted me to write a song about farts, but I couldn't stick to that subject for the whole song.

I also will feel better for the duration of Nur Ein knowing somebody ranked Skub at the bottom, even if it was on a technicality. It's a valuable lesson for the rest of us as well. I've come close to being burned for the same reason before (dare I mention the "V" word again).

I didn't even realise that Wendy's was a joke song too! I think it's a shame cos it's really beautiful.
But this was a fun podcast, although you have now got me questioning if I've been pronouncing timbre incorrectly for years. I thought it was like "tom-bruh".

It's looking like we won't be able to have round 2 podcast out until this weekend/Monday. Busy schedules!

As contestants and the primary listeners, does having the podcast lag significantly affect your enjoyment?
