I sent in a song back on the 12th, was it not received?

I've re-sent the email, hope it can be included as I think it's one of my favourites that I've done for Songfight!

(And for the record, I love this title!)

I think it might be that people are focused on Nur Ein rather than anything to do with the title.

OK, I'll see if I can get it posted. I've been out of town since last Friday and don't get home till Monday night and I'm super duper busy while traveling so it may be a couple days before I get the song added.

Ah, I almost wrote a song for this for my first song fight entry but was distracted by the Nur Ein thing. But I would have if I knew there were only going to be three entries. Reviews to come!

Nick Soma & Cookie Blue: Really pretty guitar arpeggios. The vocals cut through the mix nicely too. They add an edge to the soft gentle feel of the instrumental. This is a sweet tune. Very nice.

Tim Hinkle: Has a kind of renaissance folk song filtered through '60s psychedelia thing going on that's pretty nice. Mix / production wise it's not bad, but it doesn't feel quite as glued together as the Nick Soma track I just listened to.

Pepper Jane: Lofi but the guitar riff is pretty cool and the vocals are excellent. Love the voice.

Vom Vorton: Cool mix/production. I like how clear all of the elements are even though it's definitely the most "maximalist" of this group of songs. Cool stuff. I like this song too.

I'll listen again later on and decide on my votes then (and give Vom Vorton a chance to be listed.)

Nick Soma + Cookie Blue - Instantly likable from the first notes of the guitar and the beginning vocals. I might have liked a bit of a change up somewhere, but it's a nit as I like this song.

Pepper Jane - Sounds like I walked into a coffee house and caught this song from the back of the room. Which should be a bad sound (a bit muffled etc., ) but works really well. I'd get my coffee for here and stick around to hear another song for sure.

Tim Hinkle - Guitars panned slightly to the left leaves me a bit unbalanced (and it sounds like it has a single string just enough out of tune that it'd drive me crazy for twenty minutes before I gave up and recorded the dang track.) The vocals are good but the delivery is a bit too... dramatic? for my taste. That being said, it suits the genre and song well and I liked the writing.

Vom Vorton - No mp3 tags? Lazy, are ya? (I only noticed because I had to download to listen.) I like the sound of your track. The music is good. Vocals are a tad high in the mix for me, but I like the bap bap baps and you have a good performance in the lead. I really dig the musical bits between the vocals. Really good, laid back delight.

Some quick one-listen reviews because I'm on holiday!

Tim Hinkle - nice writing, and I really like the wild instrumental section. I don't listen to a lot of stuff in this sort of dramatic folk-rock subgenre but I can tell you're doing it well!

Nick Soma + Cookie Blue - this is very pretty indeed. Lovely crisp guitar sound and the vocal is melancholy and sweet. Kinda agree with TC that a change-up of some kind might be nice as it's very "dynamically the same" all the way through (check out my complete mastery of technical terms there) but fine work all the same.

Pepper Jane - I really like your voice and the low-key lead guitar, and the lo-fi vibe suits the song's vibe. It does sound like there are a couple of bits where the timing is a bit off, but I'm happy to ignore that with this kind of live-ish sound.

Vom Vorton - really happy with this one, the lyric came straight to me and I enjoyed digging out some old keyboards for some retro vibes. Kinda gutted it fell down the cracks of the Songfight system, to be honest, but hopefully there's still time for that to be rectified.

Nick Soma + Cookie Blue: This is really lovely and sweet, reminds me of the Pastels with the kind of languid arrangement and naive, melancholy vocal. I like the mix of the shimmery guitar arpeggios and subdued piano accents, especially the high bright parts between vocal parts.

Pepper Jane: Very nice vocal, this has a super 90's Lilith Fair vibe to me that brings me back to my high school days and I dig that. It's a very "live"-sounding recording as some others have commented on, personally I wish the vox were a bit louder/clearer for a slightly less lo-fi feel.

Tim Hinkle: What is that lead instrument? It has a very odd sound, like a distorted kazoo. I would have liked this to go all-out with weird textures throughout for more of a Tom Waits feel, or psychedelic freakout, I think leaning towards cleaner production makes it feel rather like a filk song which is not my cup of tea (although the lyrics aren't really in the genre, the melody and vocal style has that kind of feel to me). I like the melody, and I think it's well performed and produced.

Vom Vorton: Love the bah bah bahs! Very catchy chorus. The lyrics are my favorite take on the theme out of this batch. The mix of synths is nice, I like the high tinkling one in the intro combined with the bass, it's like a music box that plays songs by the Cure. I think I would have liked the lead vocal mixed slightly quieter in the verses as it felt a bit stark to me there, although it sits fine in my opinion once the bahs come in.

Only 4 songs but I think it was a really strong showing all around, nice!

Any chance this can be sorted? I feel weirdly sad every time I go to songfight.org and my song isn't there

All these songs are really good. It's really difficult to decide which songs to vote for.

Yes, it is a distorted kazoo. Specifically, a Kazooka electric kazoo.
