I've created Facebook events for the show on the Song Fight! Facebook page here. Local hosts, please let me know if you'd like me to add you as an admin of the events.

Night 1 - https://www.facebook.com/events/350572142313508/
Night 2 - https://www.facebook.com/events/2232035920244069/

I guess we need to figure out the show start and end times too.

Thanks for creating the FB events! Can you add me as a co-host, please?

It would be awesome to start nailing down exactly who is definitely coming and how long we anticipate everyone's sets will be, so we can at least roughly map out both evenings and get at least the start times set in stone. And we'll still have to figure out a practice space situation depending on who's doing what.

I would love to see each and every one of you there, even if that would maybe make things a little crowded in the Rigby.

I will definitely be there.

Unfortunately, it will be a very quick trip, arriving Friday and leaving Sunday.

I will almost certainly be there, but I'd like to know when other folks are arriving and leaving so I can maximize the enjoyment of my booked travel. Plus, I really want to get in on a housing split, because of the hotel situation.

[EDIT] Okay fuck it, I just booked my travel - I'll be there from July 31 - August 5, and I'll tentatively book myself a hotel and figure out transport later. So, set me to 100% coming.

Here is a big brain dump about set lengths, show timing, etc. Hopefully there is some helpful info in here but it may just be a bunch of blather. :)

Historically everybody has generally wanted to play for as long as possible. For many this is the only occasion for which they perform live. (Folks are more likely to wind up going over their time than not using it all too so we usually have somebody keeping an eye on that during the show.) We generally plan to use all the time that the venues give us though of course that's not required. We set aside an hour for the live fight at the end of the second show, then evenly divide up the rest of the time by however many sets there are going to be. Some folks have requirements about playing in the first or second show based on schedules or availability or venue appropriateness in years where one show has been at a more acoustic friendly venue and the other at a more band friendly venue. That part doesn't apply this year since it's the same venue both shows. Last year's turnout was a lot smaller than usual and it's possible this year will be more like last year. I think everybody got to play for as long as they wanted to, with some folks participating in multiple sets, and we even did a rather long but very fun "Song Fight Tribute Band" set at the beginning of the second show.

I’m starting to put together a set list. Any idea how long to target? Seems like we’re going to have longer sets than usual this year.

Lucky Spoon won't be doing his own set, but we'll likely be doing some of his songs as part of my set, so it might be nice to allocate some extra time there, depending on how much we're looking at per set.

Looks like we have about 8 people so far across the 2 nights, and I'm assuming everyone is interested in performing a set. Plus the live fight. Someone with more experience should speak up as far as how this will affect set lengths--the sweet spot I tend to aim for in a normal show context is 30-45 mins per set, more than that and people often get bored... but this isn't really a normal show setup, so personally I'm also totally happy for folks to do as much or as little as they want. (But if you want to play for 3 hours straight, I might have to take a breather at some point)

DEFINITE:
- owl
- Grumpy Mike/Lucky Spoon
- Micah Sommersmith
- Lunkhead/Merisan
- Ken
- frankie big face
- fluffy
- ADD/Charm Offensive

MAYBE:
- Lucky Witch and the Righteous Ghost
- Pigfarmer Jr

30-45 ought to be more than enough, from an audience perspective. ;) And from a performer perspective, if you imagine that you'll be able to actually prepare enough to play more material than that, think again. :P

30-45 minutes is a lot longer than a typical SFL set, but anyway I have a lot of songs memorized. :P My main limiting factor is pain, not material.

We are a definite. I and my wife will be there but only I'll be performing. Planning a solo acoustic set but I admit the idea of bringing an electric and amp and rocking a bit sounds enticing if it would work out. Sounds like too much trouble, though.

30-45 minutes seem long to me, but I guess I can try to learn more of my songs before then. I'd say 20-30 is typical, but as attendance goes down, set lengths go up!

Also folks don't have to play that long if they don't want to, and, we could end the night early, etc. Also like I said before if we have spare time it could be fun to put together another tribute set to fill 30-60m.

Yeah I was going off "Historically everybody has generally wanted to play for as long as possible."--> which to me, might mean they want to play for 2 hours :)

The 30-45 mins I mentioned is usually on a 3 or 4-band bill, too. So playing for less time is totally fine. I just don't want to say "hey reserve this venue for 2 nights for us" and have the whole first night be over in an hour :)

So far my Lunkhead set list idea at the moment is mostly short silly songs from doing song-a-day in January this year, plus some "recent" (made last 5 years vs made 10-15 years ago) Song Fight songs. When I play a Lunkhead set at all I wind up doing the same few songs over and over and I thought I'd do something different but if anybody who is attending somehow is expecting me to play anything in particular let me know.

Oh yeah this would be a good time to make requests from me too. I’m going to be playing a cross-section of my various things. My current set works out to 30 minutes when I plow through so it’s got plenty of room for extension.

Oooooh I didn't even realize this was coming up so soon! I've been out of town a lot over the last few weeks. I'll try to get my butt in gear with promoting as soon as I can.

How does the live fight title work? Do we agree on it and tell you? Or just post it here? When?
