SongFighter Cover Thyself due June 18, 2005

Post by Niveous »

FIGHT'S HERE!
http://songfight.net/coverfight

_____________________________________________________________

The last coverfight was in September. Isn't it about time for another one?

We interrupt this thread already in progress to bring you breaking news of the outcome. It has been decided by the powers that rule this place that the subject of the coverfight will be your own material. Fix something that is broken, remix something that got screwed up at the last minute. Re-record that song that could have been a hit if you had only had a little more time. Does it have to be songfight material? Well, that WOULD be a good idea, since this IS songfight, but you know, when did we start enforcing rules around here?

Due June 1, 2005. Self-Hosted. Submit link to covermaster@songfight.org

I felt the long lead time works well for coverfights, since most people seem to put so much more into these than their own.

Like...what about July 4th as a target?

It takes quite a while for registration and assignment and rules and gathering lyrics and mp3s ...

I guess my response is...yes.

That would be up to the Fightmasters. All I know is that it wouldn't be an original flavor coverfight (we did that last time).

I always liked the idea of doing a coverfight that's both artist- and genre-specific, like the Devo Country fight. Maybe something like:

ClashicalFight - do a sendup of a classical piece, or a Clash cover.

PearlJazzFight - do a jazz standard, or a Pearl Jam cover.

SkappaFight - a ska cover, or something by Frank Zappa.

Feel free to add your own.

It was my understanding that the original flava coverfights are of each other's works. That Niveous started this thread only makes it more so evident.

Brilliant! :)

"Song from the year you were born" came to mind... but then bands would have to average their ages, and stuff like last minute collaborations could get really messy. So nevermind.

Could add a third band to the list and call it Who's Elvis is it anyway? for an even more gigantic catalog to choose from, heh.

Very cool - CCRE(a)M, to honour the reformation of the mighty rock dinosaurs Cream, as well?

My votes for CCREM. That's an awesome idea. Fogerty or Stipe, can't go wrong with either.

that'd be a tough choice though. i might have to do one of both. but just yesterday i was listening to "green" in my car, thinking how much i'd really like to do an rem song. any one of them.

I think it might be interesting to have a coverfight where we cover OURSELVES. Take one of your own songs and do it over like you're covering it. Except this time you have like a month to work on it, and the song is already written and stuff.

This is a good idea JB. In this proposal, can we change parts to improve it, or just do a straight cover?

Oh yeah.. also... or could it be cover each other fight? I gotta admit, I LOVE hearing songfighters cover each other... it's pretty wicked.
