Hexaflexagon
Hot Pink Halo
***
Once upon a story told and
Folded over time
We learned survival
Learned the battle
Learned the way of rhyme
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Behind the seven lands and seas there
Lived a bay of shelves
They held the meanings
Held the histories
Held the secret selves
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Once there was where there wasn’t
Nothing not quite there
We ran forward
We ran faster
Ran adrift on air
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Back when tigers smoked tobacco
Where the wild words roamed
We went sideways
We went through
We went to other homes
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Long long long ago there was a day
A day was here
We gathered round
We gathered stories
Gathered far and near
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Where it was there it was
We see it over there
It’s behind you
It’s within you
Bending through the air
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon
Once upon a story told and
Folded over time
We learned survival
Learned the battle
Learned the way of rhyme
Spin the handle
Crank the wheel
Sing along
As you turn the hexaflexagon

Phlub - Eternal Return
There’s nothing new beneath the sun
I’ll watch matters echo, as they’ve always done
Observe as another cycle’s begun
Minutiae may differ, but how can you dispute eternal return
Must I internalize this yarn you’ve spun?
Chaos and entropy - and it is undone
Is ever a father truly like his son?
Often similar,, but that does not constitute eternal return
Across the centuries, it never abates
More pairs of philosophers will have this debate
It is inevitable, if only you wait
Is this not proof by recursion of eternal return?
There’s nothing new beneath the sun
Our discourse echoes, as it’s always done
Observe as another cycle’s begun

I was so tired
I had to lie
Prostrate upon the floor
My flawed plans barely worth a try
My self-worth took one hit more
That armour I wear
Always wears away
Where would we go from here?
We won’t agree in any way
Anyway we’re far too insincere
Extracted your pound of flesh
And pound me into the ground
Til I’m all ground up
And scattered on the wind
Your love’s splinter burrowed beneath my skin
I felt like I’d splinter apart
The weather turned
The clouds enveloped me
You asked whether we were fine
As you fine-tuned your logical fallacy
I was so tired
I just had to lie
I was so tired
I had to lie
Prostrate upon the floor
My flawed plans barely worth a try
My self-worth took one hit more
That armour I wear
Always wears away

It'll Be Ok by Sober
Just turned in my six month chip
A load of Copenhagen in my bottom lip
And I shake out a fresh one and take a drag
24 days to recuperate
One for every week that I was away
That’s a lot of time to kill and it’s killin me
And if I were French
I could have had a half a glass a day
Soften up the edges and head back to my tent
And tell myself that it’ll be ok
Khenjakak and Sperwan Ghar
Wolverine and Kandahar
And all the other FOBs and COPs I can’t recall
The loneliest feeling I’ve ever known
Is either 10am on my street at home
Or crammed in the transient tent in Kyrgyzstan
And if there were a way
To go for just a half an hour a day
Maybe life at home would be more than shades of gray
And I’d tell myself that it’ll be ok
I get along fine til I start to itch
Then I put in for a duty switch
To a unit gearing up to go downrange
I never tell my family that I volunteered
It’s not like I don’t want em near
But there’s something missing here, or maybe in me
And if there were a way
To go for just a half an hour a day
Maybe life at home would be more than shades of gray
And I’d tell myself that it’ll be ok
If they ever end this war
And I can’t get away any more
And it’s up to me to deal with all the
Voices in my head
I’ll tell myself it’ll be ok
If I can find another way
But until then I’ll stock up on
Copenhagen and menthols

Leave it on the TMB
Night Sky
Baby will you meet me in Chamonix
I’ll wait for you by the old cherry tree
You got a secret I got the key
Free you from these walls
Problems we can’t solve
Baby will you meet me in Chamonix
I’ll hold your hand in Les Contamines
We’ll drink plum wine and dance in clean air
Someday we’ll share the burdens we bear
Tonight sing your song
I will sing along
I’ll hold your hand in Les Contamines
I’ll carry your rucksack into Champex
Step by step we’ll circumnavigate
The alpine queen in her white cape
Hear the cowbells clang
Ain’t no other sound
I’ll carry your rucksack into Champex
We’ll ride the gondola in Argentiere
Watch the valley recede away
Too high to see the tallest trees sway
That’s where we’ll measure
The troubles that plague you
We’ll ride the cable car in Argentiere
Baby will you meet me in Chamonix
We’ll kiss beneath the old cherry tree
We don’t need secrets to be free
We’ll burn down the walls
Got nothing to solve
Baby will you meet me in Chamonix

Re: Spintunes 19 R3 - Let's Circle Back to That
Ordinary Time
Micah Sommersmith
It's coming up on Easter, the sky is full of rain
Important folks are saying life will soon begin again
I've heard the Bible story, I’ve heard the preacher say
That the tomb was standing empty and the stone was rolled away
And I'm still waiting
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting
For that resurrection day
It's coming up on Pentecost, the sun is shining strong
I'm talking to my neighbor, but the words all come out wrong
I've heard the Bible story, and the songs that have been sung
How the Spirit-filled disciples could speak in every tongue
And I'm still waiting
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting
For that breath to fill my lungs
And now it's All Souls Day, and the leaves have fallen down
And the leaves are on the ground
And we read all those names of those who've laid their burdens down
Those we've laid under the ground
And the list goes on and on, but no one asks what was this tragedy,
What was this awful crime?
Because this is just an ordinary moment
In ordinary time
It's coming up on Christmas, the sky is gray and cold
What little warmth I come across, my frozen hands can't hold
I've heard the Bible stories, and the prophecies of old
See the Virgin at the Manger, see the miracle unfold
And I'm still waiting
I’m still waiting
I’m still waiting
For the hope that was foretold
It's coming up on Easter, the sky is full of rain
Important folks are saying life will soon begin again
