How did you find out about Song Fight?
It was mentioned on the Through the Looking Glass forums.

i said "link from a songfighters website" but that isn't quite accurate...
the short answer: i found songfight through kompressor.
the less short answer: i found drew through kompressor and came to songfight directly via the short-lived sharing machine competition.

the LONG answer: sometime around 2001 or 2002 the girl i was dating at the time got kompressor's song "don't dance" e-mailed to her, and we liked the song a lot. a few months after this i was searching out more kompressor stuff (i think this is when his songs were posted at ampcast or wherever) i found the original songfight site -- poked around a bit (discovered octothorpe in the process) and i thought it was about the coolest idea ever. however the site was pretty much dead at the time (whenever that was) and i found elsewhere something called "meanwhile", evidently a sort of songfight-junior for those unhappy with the site being dead. too lazy or pressed for time to investigate further, i forgot about it.
around the same time, i found that kompressor cds and t-shirts were being sold via the "drew store" (at corrupt.net), and poking around a bit i found stuff like "lego porn" and weird stories about ninja squirrels. kept an eye on the site for a while, and maybe a year later "toothpaste for dinner" was born. read this daily and when "the sharing machine" wannabe-songfight began, i wrote and submitted a couple songs, and also in e-mail communication with drew said the concept reminded me of the old songfight website, which i remembered had died some time back. he wrote back that it had been reborn and was going strong again. or something like that. so a week or two later when sharing machine bit the big one (insert witty commentary here), i decided to test the waters at songfight proper -- "troublemaker" was the title; i wrote some reviews and then recorded/submitted several songs beginning with "direct to helmet". and here we are.

i'm not sure whom you refer to when you say "you guys" but immediately prior to your message jim t. was talking about narbotic's website... this is totally unrelated. after dropping songfight, for a few years narbotic had operated a personal site which was precisely the opposite concept: other people sent him titles and he wrote the songs. (now also defunct, but formerly linked via the "originated by narbotic" text on the SF main page).j$ wrote:Are you guys talking about the not very lamented actually Sharemachine? Or is that something else entirely?

Let that be a lesson to you: Wanna stay in the band, cut class.jolly roger wrote:Dr. Spectacular's Power Circus entered their Adonai song ... I'm actually their drummer, but I was left out of the recording for that song (I was at school, apparently) and our guitarist and keyboardist did the drum tracks. They told everyone to go on and vote for them, so I checked it out, and I loved it. So now I am here.

I thought Colin/Narbotic was running his "send me a title and I'll write a song" site before he started SongFight!, but I could be wrong.

No wonder the general public has problems with genetic modification, cloning, etc.Spud wrote:Octothorpe was formed for the sole purpose of entering Song Fight!

i was listening to 99x in Atlanta via web stream. (Back when they had the best morning show in the world) They had a guy who came on once a week and touted off a few cool websites in his bit. Songfight was one of them.
--don't bother past this point--
Another guy was here who was listening that same morning. He's not been around in years but he entered a few songs too. Broken Class... Sore Looser... Gkort was his messege boards handle. Whats funnier...I called that morning show once after that because they were looking for people in other cities listening to their show via web...and Gkort heard me on the radio that particular morning. Oh and we laughed...good times...good times.
