Draft Date Due

but who knows... if it were to get bad, i wouldn't doubt it

While I don't mean for my vote to suggest that I agree with the current war or the current president, I had to vote for "tie up my boots..." because that's what I would have done in 1971, after dropping out of college with a lottery number of 110 (i.e., I would have been drafted if Nixon hadn't ended the war). The minister of our church told me he'd support me if I wanted to go for a conscientious objector deferment, but I didn't feel like I could honestly do that...

I found my old draft card a while back and realized that any hippie credentials I might have thought I had went out the window when I went down and registered for Selective Service on my 18th birthday, which just happened to be three days after Kent State.

All due to a basic lack of worldy involvement and gumption on my part, which have pretty much stayed with me ever since. While I'm glad that I didn't have to go to 'Nam, it occurs to me occasionally that if I had, it would have had some profound effects on me, some of which might have made me a better person in the long run (assuming that a "long run" was part of the deal).

As I'm 16, an immigrant, a female, and I have a strange medical thing I'll never be eligible for anyone's draft. I'll stay at home with my ration book making the guns to ship out and smuggle in bananas in my downtime. It'll be great.

yea well, regardless of the corrupt ways of the government
if you do anything for the right reasons, you will be rewarded
i would never push my stance against the government
against the people that have fought... i hold the highest respect for them

i think you're still good person either way, i've grown up around a few vets...
some crazy stories i've heard,
one of my dad's old friend's went a.w.o.l. for 2 years in nam... every night, they would choose a guard to stand duty with a gun, but no ammo... and every night that guy would be sniped, it came around to be his friend's turn, and they ran off) cause they knew it was that, or die...
only reason he wasn't courtmarshalled was because him and his friend rescued a sargent that got captured
he supposedly killed over 150 guys, and had to take extensive amounts of therapy for the fact that he was too used to killing at will...
he's still a little... off... but a great guy

3. Lay low with family in Canada if circumstances were significantly different from current understanding of modern times.

I'm pretty sure that even if there was a draft that they'd not want anything to do with a 33 year old Male with bad knees. If for some reason they did (keeping in mind that my uncle is in his late 50s and they sent him to Kuwait for a year) I'd probably not end up in a combat unit anyways due to physical limitations.

I've often thought of serving my country many times. It's unfortunate that I am far to selfish to give up my personal life to do my part, to earn my keep in this country. (Also, I'm not taking out my jewlrey)

<b>weasel</b> I'm inclined to believe that a violent revolution in the U.S.A. would be about the only way the government would try to re-instate a draft at all. Don't for a minute think they wouldn't. It would be very trying times and they would probably lose a few willing soldiers. That and they did it the last time.

As usuaul, no response reflects the notion that I would carefully consider my actions based on the specifics of the draft being instated. Clearly, one must be against the means no matter what the ends.

yea i did mean imprison

haha i hear ya... i don't personally care too much myself about the fighting aspect, just have a problem with the reasoning
so i would take the imprisonment myself, i'd rather be held captive, over standing behind something i didn't believe in

the christians were easily beat, because all they had to do
