Man, is it just me or were topic replies for this thread really unreliable?

Just listened to JBB's All Tan, and that song is the shit. Dig it. Great take on the title.

Not sure what you mean, Fluffy. Reviews vs. votes?

I mean, I wasn't getting topic reply emails reliably.

Shadowy Puppetmaster should install that mod I wrote to make reply notifications expire after a while, so you get notified if there's replies to a thread you haven't visited in the past 3 days. Email's just too unreliable these days what with all the spam filtering and whatnot.

Are there really that many non-song fighter listeners? I counted 126 votes for a fight with some 30 entries. And although there were very few reviews this week, the reviews there were seemed to go in a different direction than the voting (no dis-respect intended towards the winners).

You counted wrong, sir. It's right there on the page: http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?key=all_tan

Anyway, yeah, the board reviews and the vote are often askew.

It got hard after I ran out of fingers and toes.

I wonder why that is...because the people who tend to review are that out of touch with what is popular with the masses, or because there's just a crazy bunch of Friend Flooding a-goin' on?

I don't think we were so out of touch. People in this thread seemed very taken by the BeWells, High Density, and Seamus - who all did well. There can be a big difference between how much people liked a song and how many people thought it was the best song.

word to that. voting is a funny thing: as has been said here before, and likely more eloquently, if everyone thinks high density is the second-best song, they're going to get 0 votes, even if marcus kellis happens to get 2 or 3 and 95% of the people think he's garbage.

you have to take a zen attitude to the voting: it is what it is. it's more or less meaningless.

Also, Song Fight isn't the incestuous pool I had at first assumed it was. I have run into people who have heard of Song Fight; some who actually listen, even. In fact, I was an occasional listener, voting here and there, before I ever thought to enter the fight. And between you and me, my mom votes.

Of course, NOW I'm getting reply notifications reliably, when people aren't actually reviewing my crappy song anymore. :)

There were a bunch of song fight listeners at the MC Frontalot concert in Atlanta. Or at least, people who knew about song fight.

SOMEBODY has downloaded 100GB of data from the server in the last 8 days.

100,000MB / 4MB (avg song file size, i'd wager) = 25,000 songs

Give or take, since there's other data on the server. But really, it's almost exclusively song files. And they're not ALL from johnorama.com. ;)

excuses

Post by jeff robertson »

I know excuses aren't worth much, but the reason I never got around to reviewing is partly because the fight was so damn big. It was intimidating, and my natural tendency to procrastinate took over from there.

As for my song, well, another duck for somebody to cover.

Wow. strange results.

Blue Spud Shoes, Bjam, Glenn & Rachel, Dave Patrol, sp00ns, Melvin, Paco, Noah, Prey for Mojo, Ross, Sockpuppet, Tam Lin Music all outscored by Rone?

It makes you question your grip on reality.

A month or so of one-fight-at-a-time and we get like twenty new sidefights. Coincidence?

Yay for Fightmaster's Picks! I didn't get a chance to listen to this fight (and really, what are the chances of me catching up on the archive) and I'm really glad I checked out these four songs. My fav is High Density--WOW. That's a really great song--sorry I didn't listen in time to force a three-way tie.

If anyone reads this and thinks I'm missing another great song from the bunch, let me know.
