lyric archive. let's make it work.

Post by reve »

ooookay.

So i grabbed all the html old lyric archive pages off uh. dumbrella. (thanks, wget!) I realize that a user-submitted db-driven model has been tried before (aarondek.com/archive); but now seems like a really good time to try such a beast again.

Fully indexed, searchable... come on. I reckon that'd be cool. Ideally, these should be cross-indexed to user entered user-pages, etc. I mean, it's cool that spud's pluggin' all that shizzle in, but what a pain in the ass.

Parsing all the old (lyric) data would be a pain in the ass, but not impossible. It seems like a shame to lose all that. Are there plans for such a beast in the works? I'll help/write the back end if not.

Yah, I did the same thing, and was thinking much the same thing. I may give this a shot one day if it doesn't just magically happen on its own.

(Guys, if you need more volunteer help with anything, I'm happy to help.)

Also, I want to start a post about how much I hate almost all of you, but I'm not sure which forum to put it in.

The old dumbrella board is staying up, but locked. You can still see your lyrics there, kids.

Get JB to install this: http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/classicz ... atures.txt

Then someone needs to also edit the page templates to support it.

hey, there are at least three of you that I know of working on the same project (creating a database of the lyric archive and possibly the reviews as well). I will call a meeting next week to coordinate our efforts.

rstevens, on the new Dumbrella board wrote:The old boards will not be deleted any time in the near future, but will be locked in a few days. You can still read and link to your favorite threads but you won't be able to add to them. This system should be a lot faster & more stable.
If they were staying up forever indefinitely, it would just say "The old boards will not be deleted". That board will be coming down sometime.

The main heading for the Lyric Archive threads currently says: "Not for donations-- post those in the fight discussion forum." By "donations," do you mean the Lyric Mart thread?

If so, I think that one would fit better in the "collaborations" area, although I s'pose it would work to have people just post them to the prefight threads...

Just not sure what you mean by "donations," and I didn't see a new lyric mart thread anywhere...

"The topic or post you requested does not exist," it tells me.

I moved it, because it was in a thread that people couldn't reply to.
