This was a July 3rd thread that went wrong but now after a quick edit after midnight...voila! A July 4th thread.

Question of the Day: What was the WORST 4th of July you ever had. has America's birthday ever sucked for you? Not every one can be just fireworks and joy. Which one sucked for you.

For me, it would have to be the year that two kids got into a fight on the boardwalk. A third kid got involved and threw a lit firecracker. The results was a kid laying on the boardwalk with no face. That was an ugly thing to see.

Heh, beat me by a minute, Niv. Now what do we do?

Should answer the damned thing, huh?

Never had a bad 4th (any holiday celebrated by blowing shit up is great in my pyromaniacal book  ), so the weirdest one...

4July2000, just separated from my (now) ex-wife, standing on the beach (Long Beach, CA) in clouds of gunpowder smoke, wandering through the clumps of people lighting off their own fireworks while children run riot, laughing and playing, from pocket to pocket of this mini-show or that one.

Just drifting, smoking a cigarette, and letting the carnival atmosphere take me along with it.

in before the delete
no bad 4ths of July for me that I can think of. In fact, more along the lines of great memories. My first real kiss with boob fondling, bright colors, happy atmosphere, lighting stuff, Family and friends, laughing, clapping.
.....nope, can't think of anything bad.

YOU ARE EARLY

I haven't had any particularly bad July 4s, though I've had a lot of mediocre ones. The main thing I hate about July 4 is the week of explosions before it, as well as the month of explosions afterwards. (This was pretty bad in New Mexico, too. I swear, people there would have a much higher standard of living if they'd put their firework money into home improvements or long-term savings or something more, you know, long-lasting than making it literally go up in smoke.)

Fluffy's last post sounds really funny if you read it with a Woody Allen voice. Careful though, you might pee a little. Image

hey, i'm wearing my official state shirt and drinking a good old made in america sierra nevada pale ale to celebrate the fact that i can sleep in late tomorrow.

man, santa cruz sucks at 4th of july. all these people come here and clog up our little infrastructure and then realize that there are no fireworks here, but there's a big body of water they can shoot theirs off into. never mind the boats. or the redwoods. as people get drunker on the beach, they start shooting fireworks at each other. for fun. yeah. drunk people with fireworks make for inevitable poor decisions being made.

have a safe and happy 4th! go see sicko.

Meanwhile across the Atlantic we have already been celebrating for hours that not only did we manage to offload you deadweights, but also somehow left you believing it was a good result for you :)

We're almost ready to hit the road for York, Maine for a couple days. All that's left is convincing the kids that they can't bring everything they own. So we should be ready to go in about, maybe, six hours.

QotD: No 7/4 jumps out as partuclarly bad in my memory, but a few years back my uncle Ray got hit by what I guess you'd call 'shrapnel' from one of the big fireworks at the town display. Got him just below the eye. He's okay now.

Back when we lived in Santa Clara, we went to the big San Jose 4th of July fireworks thing at the soccer stadium. Within the first few minutes of the show, they managed to set somebody's lawn on fire and from that point on, nothing more could go up into the sky. The few ground-based things they lit up after that were pretty anticlimactic.

Last year, we had a foster dog who was terrified of lightning and thunder and all sorts of other loud noises, and she basically kept me awake all night because of the fireworks, just freaking out 'til at least 2 a.m. This past March, she got out of our yard during a storm, got hit by a car and killed...

I'm kinda gearing up here to work on an AAD today, see what happens...

yawn. went up to coeur d'alene at 9 o'clock today. got some starbucks, new batteries for my camera, then left. went onto the lake in a boat for a few hours, came back and grilled some hamburgers, corn, and brats, saw fireworks, came back home. tomorrow I'm hanging out with Chad from booty chesterfield, and this weekend it's on to jerome-las vegas-los angeles and hanging out with chris/prayformojo.
