thanks to everybody that reviewed my entry. i mentioned before (i think on the pre-fight thread) that the mix sounded pretty good on my multitrack, then when i got it on the mac, the vocals sounded way too loud for no apparent reason (i was hoping it was just the laptop speakers, since i've gone through that a lot before with other tracks).

i take full credit for my vocals kind of sucking besides that (easily the most embarassing track i could have had too loud) and my guitar solo was purposefully breaking down at the end (i had several tritone bends thrown in there if i remember correctly, though the poor mixing probably prevents anyone from clearly hearing this).

anyho, thanks for bludgeoning your ways through the track despite the apparently huge volume discrepancy.

The review Nazi told me one line! Everybody gets one line only! I'd be glad to offer more when he's not looking, but you gotta ask nicely. :)

Acid Cadillac - There are a couple of fudge crumbs on this but it's good fun.

Adam Adamant feat. RP - I like the singers voice but he makes me feel a bit embarrassed at times.

Big Crouton - Despite other comparisons, the first guitarist I thought of was Robin Trower.

Blues Manufacturing Facility - Tied for best sounds are the clave/click and the playing with the tape speed sound on the guitar.

Breast Harvest - This would have been better if left way under a minute.

Caravan Ray - Somehow I don't think the narrator actually approached his prey here, but had a good night nevertheless.

Cynthia Size and the @eclectic spOOns - Who's really in charge here?

Deux Freres - The sun's not all the way up in the sky but still feels good, warm, and strong.

DJ Sponge and RyGuy - I think this is pretty well written and love "mistook" the first time it goes by.

G4meboy - I like the heady music to a point, but the vocal delivery is pulling on my optical nerves somehow.

Hell Biscuit - This would snap along better with a lot more rehearsal or a real band, but I like some of the mellow yet upbeat vibe.

Hello Blue Monday - Work on that vocal pitch, big time, and the dark mood of this would be much more effective.

Jason's Innocence - Remember when I recorded a song just like this when I was living in Lafayette Square, back in '91?

Jeff Travis Henderson - Very excellent song that works on many levels and I wish I was capable of writing, but since nobody mentioned New Pornographers yet, allow me!

Jimmy Jet and His TV Set - Nice, simple circles, you can see how you put this together and it works pretty well.

Lopez and the Destroyers - I like the sugary and trippy progressions but not the vocal deliverys.

Lord of Oats - The romantic sentiment is fine but a little too underdeveloped, though the guitars are played pretty good..

Melvin - Love the out of the sky intro and higher vocal/instruments ranges throughout, letting the sun shine in the entire way.

No Horse TOwn - Please don't misinterpret me when I say I found the threatening stiffness quite enjoyable, even if this sounds like a sun-baked Flvxxvm Florvm.

Pop Quiz Chicken - I'm not that bright, so it took the second listen and on for me to get a better grip on the tasty smartness of this.

Punglect - I'd like this more if it didn't feel as though it's struggling to stay alive at times, although maybe that's intentional for some reason.

Sausage Boy - Completely disturbing as soundwaves from the bottom of the (from my perspective, anyway) world probably should be.

Sockpuppet - The music draws you right in and I like the melody, but really enjoy those tones that come in around 1:50.

Thanks for the Frisbee - As I soar out over the ocean to this lullaby I wonder if you strum alone....

The Worldly Self-Assurance - Super start for a supergroup, I think it loses a little focus near the end, and hope this is just the warm-up for bigger delights to come.

veGetar Ianra Ge - Very well done, and I hate to do the sounds like bit, but, this sounds like the offspring of Rocky Horror and Springtime For Hitler.

Wages - I like the verses best and the chorus sections after they get chugging, the second voice thing in the bridge is effective.

The Weakest Suit - I like the be who you were line and like the pop arrrangement but it doesn't start punching 'til the end.
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Well, I'm sure you've already made up your mind about me and the song I've written, but I would kindly request that you skip ahead to 2:38 in the song and listen from that point on. You will find a nice instrumental to listen to followed by a sheepish retraction of the lyrics. I understand it's a sensitive subject, and I felt sketchy about singing this song, but in the end I don't think I've done anything wrong, and I would like to hear what you think about the song other than 'I'm writing you off because of one line in your song'.

here's some sorta-reviews:

Acid Cadillac - likeable, if you like that sort of thing. Personally I'm neutral. The vocal volume is a little inconsistent, but that's OK. I like the guitar solo alright. I like that it's not too long. Pretty decent.

Adam Adamant feat. RP - really not my kinda music. The vocals are well-sung, maybe a little loud in the mix. The lyrics are irritating to me, but I'm sure they're right up a lot of peoples' alley. The first part could do with less of the clap. I like the change at the end, but I think it should have been more rockin'. It's pretty good, but I don't like it.

Big Crouton - Spot-on, well done all the way. You prolly shouldn't have apologized at the end, though - we don't need that to be able to tell it's a joke. Again, I don't really listen to this kinda thing that much, so I don't like it per se, but it is great at being what it is.

Blues Manufacturing Facility - the woodblock or whatever it is really ruins it for me. Take that out, and it'd be pretty good. I like the guitar, especially at the end. Vocals are pretty good.

Breast Harvest - I, for one, loved this one. Here's the scene in my head: his wife has, over the past year or so, ballooned out into some kind of monster cow-octopus-demon, possibly due to some poisonous meteorite fragment or a curse or something. He has to keep her in the basement, but has more and more trouble calming her down as the mutation keeps advancing. One day he's got company, and someone hears something from the basement, where he swore she was asleep... but oh shit he's gotta go try to reason with what's left of her. And it doesn't work. I dig this kinda stuff. Apparently most people here don't. Oh well.

Caravan Ray
- way better than I thought it would be when I read the lyrics ahead of time. Lotsa fun. Only lyrics I really didn't like in the end were the "mouth is saying no / body saying yes" bit. The turn it up/get it down part was my favorite. I think you should have brought that back one more time instead of the chorus again at the end. This one was good.

Cynthia Size and the @elcectic spOOns - Damn, this one is sweet. I dig the lyrics, I like the music a lot. I like pretty much everything about this. Excellent.

Deux Freres - The lyrics could use some work. The music seems to be well-done, but I don't like it. I bet someone else will, tho. I can't really critique this kinda music very well since I'm rather unfamiliar. Sorry.

DJ Sponge and RyGuy - Pretty nice. I'd like more internal rhyme. I don't listen to a lot of rap. The second MC is better. I like the changes in the backing track at the end. Maybe the verses should be longer. I dunno. Overall it's good.

G4meboy - I already wrote a bit about this one earlier.

Hell Biscuit - Well, yeah, those vocals are too loud most of the time, and poorly sung some of the time. And it's not my favorite kinda music, but most stuff isn't. I think it goes on too long, too. Sorry, I thought it was pretty bad.

Hello Blue Monday - Yeah, I had a hard time learning to sing into a microphone too. You got some pop-poppity in there. The vocals are off-key sometimes, but in this style of song that's not as bad as it could be. For some reason I like this better than I probably should. Hmm.

Jason's Innocence - Errhhh... speaking of snap-crackle-pop, this one's got it worse. The things that bug me about this song were, I'm guessing, intentional, so maybe this is one of those movements that I'll never be in on. More interesting than the last one (HBM), but less enjoyable. I really didn't like it.

Jeff Travis Henderson - Super good. I thought it sounded like Smashing Pumpkins. My wife says it sounds like Jesus and Mary Chain. Either way, this would have saved my life in high school. The stuff that comes in near the end just makes it better. I don't really listen to this kinda thing anymore since I entrusted my soul to Satan... but this is excellent. You prolly deserve to win.

Jimmy Jet and His TV Set - A notch above the other acoustic-sensitive-guy entries. The guitar line has some good subtlety... Jimmy Jet's got talent. I swear I can hear His TV Set buzzing in the background, and I don't really like that. At the very least, he deserves to get laid two or three times for this one. It's nice. I wouldn't listen to it for fun.

Lopez and the Destroyers - Ah, this kinda thing takes me back. I don't like the screechy-high-pitched voice (it's the same guy, right?). I like the stupid lyrics. I would have liked them more ten years ago. Sounds like a bona fide high school celebrity. The guitar at the end is bad in a good way. I expect better things in the future. Too bad that, on average, Lopez will get laid one less time than Jimmy Jet. I liked this song.

Lord of Oats - Not diggin' the lyrics / vocals. Not sure what you're trying to say. I guess your girlfriend doesn't like your songs? Or you want to find a girlfriend who won't like your songs? The guitar near the end, when the vocals are gone, is good - until the "dee-daddle-deedle-oo-dee-daddle-deedle-oo" thing just repeats and repeats and kills it. Not feelin' this one.

Melvin - My friend Carlos would probably love this one. I like it too. Especially the blood/paranoia lyrics... well, actually, I think I like all the lyrics. The music is repetition done right. It's a fine song. EDIT: Actually, Carlos said it was "OK". Oops.

No Horse Town - This is me. I think the cymbals are too loud. I'll work harder on balancing that in the future. Well, it's my song, and I really like it. Maybe I should've taken some samples from the Bob Astles interview I watched and spliced them into the second verse. Sorry if it's too loud.

Pop Quiz Chicken - Right from the fake start, this is damn good. I like the bass, backing vocals, oh heck it's all good.... except the "shhhhhh" thing. Not so sure about that. Good pop music. Funny that I hear "going nova" instead of "blowing over".

Punglect - I don't get it. Is it just that it's in 5/4? Is that the point? Reminds me of some video game I played in high school. I think it was final fantasy something? Not sure what more to say.

Sausage Boy - Yeah, this is fun. I don't care for the chorus though. Actually, the verses feel kinda forced too. The changes when the vocals drop out are just simple enough to be awesome. I wish it had different vocals overall, because I'm really diggin' the music.

Sockpuppet - Too peaceful for my tastes, but it's well-done for sure. The lyrics don't really make sense, but at least they're obtuse enough that it doesn't matter. When the louder stuff comes in at the end, I would have preferred if it just built up and up and eventually devolved into chaos. But it's still good as it is. And such dynamic range! A neat song.

Thanks for the Frisbee - Elliot Smithy. But I'm one of those assholes who really doesn't like Elliot Smith. Sorry. I think the weak point is the "Baaaaay-beee... be... Quiiiii-ehhhht". The rest of the lyrics are pretty good. The oohs at the beginning are nice. The song feels like it needs to get happier / triumphant / soar at some point, and it doesn't. Not my cup 'o tea.

The Weakest Suit - I like the synthy thing that comes in on the last half of the chorus. And the "shittin' gold" line. The lyrics overall are decent, but I don't like how the vocals get so quiet on the chorus. And I hope the "everything, everything" bit is supposed to be sarcastic/funny. As a sincere lyric, it's been overdone. As a whole I thought this one was OK.

The Wordly Self-Assurance - I really like the vocals for most of the song, but there's this part where it sounds like you're trying to do Morrissey and failing badly. I think you should have stuck with your natural voice. The music is all very nice, and evolves well. It's cheesy, but I really like "The future got here yesterday..." If you could only get Moz himself to sing that one part, this would be a darn sweet song. The kind of sensitive crap I actually enjoy.

VeGetar Ianra Ge - Well, yes I do think it's funny, and awesome as well. I can see what you're saying about not trying to be humorous, but for me the contrast between the style of the song and the subject matter just makes me laugh every time the chorus comes along. Love the whistling. Can't think of any ways I would improve on it - this one's great as it is.

Wages - The first half reminds me of Dirt-era Alice In Chains. The guitar could use better production... maybe electric? Maybe not? I don't really listen to this kinda music anymore, but I can appreciate it. It's an OK song. Doesn't really wow me tho.

It reminded me of AiC too. Definitely should be electric. But, am I going to avoid entering a song just because I can't get a full band? What? What's that? I can't heeeeear yoooou!

A chorus of everyone, says,
"No!" (unfortunately not)

And then Forrest says,
"Wages Is as Wages Does."

OMG, I'm so glad I don't take myself seriously! ...or do I?

Both, and there's more to loudness than volume. Dynamic range, my man.
Oh OK, I gotcha. (Full disclosure: had to look up "Dynamic Range")

That's cool. Turns out I really like songs with little or no dynamic range! Quiet/Loud/Quiet/etc. really kinda bugs me most of the time.
Hmm. What the fuck am I trying to say here? Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of "Quiet/Loud/Quiet/etc." songs that I like. Ohhh, I get it, I was being defensive! Damn, I can be a real dumbass sometimes. Just thought I oughta retract that before I end up with my foot in my mouth big time.

Well it's also more than just the overall volume across the song. You can have a song which is all at one overall volume for most of the time but still with a lot of dynamic range. For example, the song I'm listening to right now, "Old Yellow Bricks" by Arctic Monkeys, is like that. Every beat peaks at the same level, but between the beats it's not a wall of sound.

If you're not familiar with that song, "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand is stylistically-similar, and has the same sort of dynamic range I'm talking about.

Better reviews will be around later, but for now I'll speak to Big Crouton.

This sounds great except for the vox. The guitar is emotional and the song is emotional but I feel like the vocals are just reading off the lyric sheet. Also, it pains me to hear you fling your giant balls all over everyone like a rockstar only to cut them off at the end with an apology. The lyrics are solid until you undermine the whole song.

Sorry to split my reviews. I'm going to edit them into this post, so give me a shout or pm if you want an opinion and it's not here.

Hell Biscuit

Lyrics: Not fond of stinky shit in mellow songs. Otherwise not bad.

Arrangement: Good. There's enough variety to make it ok.. Ending is ok, if a bit messy.

Performance: Some notes not quite hit, both on guitar and vocals, but Otherwise a competent performance. Don't like the distortion on the rhythm guitar, it's a bit clippy, Are the vocals doubled, or just chorussed? Either way watch for keeping the levels consistent, you float in and out a little.

Overall: Doesn't grab me, but I could listen to it several more times without any difficulty. Good work, keep it up. C-

Hello Blue Monday

Lyrics: The ship is sinking and you're going to die. Nothing terrible or great
here.

Arrangement: Guitar stays the same all the way through, apart from getting a little louder and quieter. Structure is linear. Not very interesting.

Performance: Vocally weak - odd because you generally get to the note in the end. Try aiming for a note above what you are aiming for and dropping down, rather than pushing up to a note.

Overall: This sounds like a lullaby, but it's not comforting, just resigned. That's ok I guess, but it doesn't stand out in anyway. C

Jason's Innocence

Lyrics: They sound rather stream of consciousness. No real sense of a whole story mood or feeling is expressed.

Arrangement: The whistling before the introduction is terrible. Start a song well, finish it well. Messing around at the start seems amaturish. Sorely lacks a strong rhythm to pull everything through. Some touches, such as the angry echoes are good, and there's a sense of variation here, but rapid changes of speed increase the muddle of the sound, rather than improving it.

Performance: Messy and disorganised. Organ and guitar are often playing entirely different notes, and the backing singers are laggy, and inconsistent except on the 'riot' and 'be quiet' parts.

Overall: Try to tighten up your performance a lot, and rehearse your structure so that you're ready for changes when they happen. Please get a lot better next time you submit something.
E

Jeff Travis Henderson

Lyrics: You transparently pull off "I'll get you where you need" which is ambiguous at best. Well done. Not so sure about the wall line. But I love the sensual touching/feeling theme you've got going on. It's great for a
lullaby.

Arrangement: Like the clear difference between the verse and chorus, and the gaps. It's not stunning, but it keeps changing, and interesting. Good work. Interesting solo/middle bit and bond homage. Only downside is the fade-out ending.

Performance: I love the sounds you've produced, the guitar tone, and vocal style are great. The balance of everything sounds good to me, and the sparse harmonies are very cool. The lowest quality part was the drumming, which was simply adequate rather than great.

Overall: This is a great lullaby. Really good. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. A

Jimmy Jet and his TV Set

Lyrics: You tell a story, and you do it well, at least, what I can make out. The last verse, is confusing.

Arrangement: For what it is, this is good. Nice changes of style between verse and chorus. Was expecting you to end on a minor chord.

Performance: Louder please! You seem to be able to hit the notes, but in places I can barely hear you over your guitar, and the background noise. It's possible to emote just as well at high volumes. Still, it's a good performance, and you're very easy to listen to. Guitar picking is good, and nice to hear.

Overall: Too quiet but not too boring. B+

Lopez and the Destroyers

Lyrics: I'm one of those people that don't like it when you reference songfight in lyrics. The way I see it: blogs are for telling people what you're doing today, songs should have something special in the lyric department. That aside... Your lyrics are terrible, like a diaper advert. Are they so bad they're good? Not sure. What are you doing? Is it some sort of competition between rugrats?

Arrangement: You show a lot of imagination here, and when your recording skills match you will be able to kick ass. I hope you don't lose that.

Performance: ... Was that a clavichord solo? Sounded like someone having fun with a pitchbend on a keyboard, but then it sounds like a guitar.. hmm.
Anyway. This has a ton of enthusiasm and a decent amount of naivety. You've got a lot of stuff right.

Recording: Stick a gate on your mic, so that when you stop talking, you don't get a surge of noise. Or adjust your compressor parameters. Why is this song more badly recorded than "My Darling Ruin"? The guitar is way noisy as well.

Overall: I love listening to your stuff. Reminds me of when I was about 15 and just starting out recording music. I find your enthusiasm infectious. Keep it up.
B

Lord of Oats

Lyrics: Pretty miserable. The whole topic puts me off: pining after imaginary future girlfriends is only going to make you more unhappy. You're mixing a ton of metaphors here: Mud, fireworks, peaks and valleys... They don't really have that much in common. Try and build up a set of related concepts and draw links between them that make sense.
Subject matter aside, though, your rhymes are dire, and you keep using archaic words which stick out and make your song lumpy and inelegant. You might be able to get away with 'she makes a decree' but it's pretty weak. It paints her as a very bossy and uncompromising character. Not too bad, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the description, which is pretty insubstantial anyway.
Finally, talking about yourself in the first person does nothing to drag the listener into the song. Consider writing songs like this in the 2nd person. "Hey you! Are you the woman for me? Will you not care about my sound as long as I keep it down?" Still crap, but a lot less self-absorbed.

Arrangement: Not bad. You've got a structure and a solo and a varied strum pattern and a clear ending, which is about all you can do with g&g. The la la la's were a good touch.

Performance. The solo+guitar was actually the best bit of the song. That had some feeling to it that I dug. The rest of it came across as very wishy-washy and meh.

Overall: I've heard what you can do in 55 minutes. This isn't much better, at all so I'm being hard on you. Also, you have experimented with synths and so on in the past, but this doesn't have any of that. What happened?
C+

Melvin

Lyrics: Not grabbing me apart from the "A new chapter, fuck that, a new book" line.

Arrangement: Nice variation all the way through. You did one of those quiet-to-zealous transitions (2:24) that I really enjoy, and the dense texture of this is great. The end came a bit suddenly though.

Performance: Great as always. Though the 'we are free we are strong' in falsetto is odd, as falsetto doesn't sound strong at all. Love whatever that lead instrument is - Combination of guitar and organ? It breaks through really cleanly and sounds awesome.

Overall: This is my favourite of your last 5 or 6 songs. Nice to hear you do a song with a lot of drive and energy. A

No Horse Town

Lyrics: What are you protesting about? Sounds like you're against a film. Not convinced with how you built the title into it.

Arrangement: I don't know what this is... but it's pretty interesting. Way to introduce me to a new genre. Thanks. Nice ending.

Performance: Ouch Ouch Ouch. Distorted vocals for punk purposes I get, but distorting everything just hurts. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this, felt like there was a bit of passion there.

Overall: This gives me a healthy dose of WTF. But in a good way. I don't know what to think about it, and I don't think I will know until I've heard what you do next. Really interested to see what that will be like.
? B-

Pop Quiz Chicken

Lyrics: I don't give a toss what you were singing about, I was sold on the music.

Arrangement: I don't like the false start. But the mix of instruments, the crazy vocals and the guitars go really well. The ending is crap. This could have had, and deserved, some amazing and flamboyant ending, which never came. Other than that, it's great.

Performance: Quirky, but brilliant, and nice and tight. Something is really wrong with the recording though. It's distorted and overcompressed I think. I can here that there are a bunch of elements, but I can barely hear them, it's all gone a bit mushy.
The exuberance sells it though. Sadly that dies out completely at the end.

Overall: Wow. You have got some technical thing to work through, and
you need tight ends and starts, but once that's done you will pwn. A-

Punglect

Lyrics: If there were any they were vocoded out of my perception.

Arrangement: I don't like your instrumentation. The end sucked. The main riff never seems to vary

Performance: Not subtle enough to be interesting or mechanical enough to be stylised. It sounds like the vocals are vocoded, but no sound. The drum just occurs in the middle of nothing, without any context. Eh.

Overall: Not sure what you were aiming for here. Boring. D-

Sausageboy

Lyrics: Zombies? Ok.

Arrangement: I was expecting the beat to come in, and it did!.. but I was expecting the mixer/food processor sound to overlap it once or twice. Lots of repetitions of not individually interesting parts. Good ending.

Performance: Not very fluid, although if it's about zombies that could be stylistic.

Overall: Not completely hopeless, but it could have used more ideas for the length it was. C-

Sockpuppet

Lyrics: I can't make them out. Just snatches of words. It kinda works for the song style, but I have no idea what the words are or how you worked in the title.

Arrangement: This is well done, although by 1:35 the piano had started to get samey. Nicely recovered though. The square wave pattern is tasty.

Performance: Hypnotic and soporific. Largely nice mix, and the vocals work. On my headphones the frantic superdistorted snares at the end come across too loud. Why are they so suddenly agitated? I don't know what that's about.

Overall: I get the weird feeling after it finishes that I haven't actually heard it. As if the song were a brightly printed OHP slide floating down to the ground, and I caught a glimpse of its colours.... but maybe it was something else. Very good piece of music, but not a great song. I will keep this around to listen to. B+

Thanks for the frisbee

Lyrics: Not sure what you're singing about, but there's lots of ooh's. How do you read tears, sweet or otherwise?

Arrangement:The ooh's aren't bad, the intro is fine. By the second verse, some extra variety would be nice.

Performance: Vocally quiet -Not dull, but not interesting either. Mix was fine, doubled guitars worked well.

Overall: Started out pretty, but got pretty boring. Just too long. C not my thing right now.

Yes - you are right. I didn't think of that.

Lyrics: What are you protesting about? Sounds like you're against a film. Not convinced with how you built the title into it.
It's not really that I'm protesting so much as it's this fictional scenario where Bob Astles (the guy they loosely based the protagonist on) is watching The Last King of Scotland in the movie theater, and getting angry and ranting about the historical inaccuracy. The second verse is supposed to be his wife/partner/whatever asking him to be quiet. And yeah, that's about it for what lyrics there are. I tried to keep it short (and hopefully sweet?) because that's ah.. "just how I roll". Or something. I see your point about the title not being built into it a whole lot. I try to take a weird angle on / screw around with titles, and I'm sure that will continue in the future.

Thanks for the review!

Big Crouton- The most tasteless misogyny I've heard in a really long time, coupled with the most rockin' guitar work on here in awhile. Lyrics got a little bit tired after not that long, but I really didn't care. The ending solo made me grin really big.

Jimmy Jet and His TV Set- In all honestly, I kind of like the sparse arrangement of this, the down to earth feel of it. Delishisly simple. The hiss in the background complimented the environment I was sitting in while I listened to it: on the back porch, sprinkling. A nice gust of wind howled in my ear towards the end. I like it.

Adam Adamant- It wasn't really bad at all. I really didn't like the bass line on the keyboard at all. Too many 5ths, and the backing music seemed a bit meandery. All in all, pretty allright.

Blues Manufacturing Facility- The guitar work reminded me of stuff I might hear in huge quanties on a butthole surfers album. Nothing else did, but whatever. Kind of funny, but really not that fantastic. Too much nothing and not enough anything. The clicking bugged me a bit.

Breast Harvest- Certainly the most ridiculous thing this week. Could've been less tinny. Less compression. Make me thing of a megaphone rather than a can. Funny juxtaposition though.

Caravan Ray- I really want to boogy. I was walking to subway as I listened to this, and found myself walking in step to the tune. That said, the lyrics are really funny in a creepy way. The beat definitely is my favorite part of this.

Cynthia Ray and the @eclectic spoons- Makes me woozy and a little bit dizzy. Couldn't really tell what the vocals were saying at all, but it was a cool effect. Just quirky enough my make really like the song though. I wasn't the biggest fan of some of the harmonies though. At times, it reminded me of a train wreck in the mix. A really happy, woozy wreck that I kind of liked watching.

Deux Freres- Muted trumpet will always appeal to me. Actually, any latin vibe at all puts me in a good mood. Haven't really heard anything like this on here in awhile. Definitely enjoy the lyrics. Nice groove. Yay.

DJ Sponge and RyGuy- I like the mix and the production. The first MC didn't really entertain me all that much. The line about the masturbation seemed a little bit out of place. The vocals could have used a little bit of compression. Volume fluctuated quite a bit. They were a bit jerky too. The second part was really funny.

G4meboy- The mix gave me a headache. Get rid of the really trebly bells, make the beat a whole lot easier to follow. Take all of the weird effects off of the vocals, and make it a little bit less arbitrarily dirty. Then I might like it a little more.

Hell Biscuit- I kind of like it. Not really my favorite. The mix seems just a little bit upside down, and overall it seems just a little bit meandering. I'm also not really sure what the melody was. It's a little bit uncertain of itself.

Hello Blue Monday- Would have been a helluva lot more awesome with a better vocal performance. Really, it just kills the song.

Acid Cadillac- The jazziness was pretty cool. It mix seemed really low quality, but the song was pretty good. Made me jam along with my fingers. Nice usage of dynamic. The walking bass line was mostly pretty cool, only got off occasionally. Nice solo at the end.

Jeff Travis Henderson- I really liked this. Quite a lot.

The Weakest Suit- Well, I liked the third chord in the chord progression quite a bit. Didn't really do the trick for me all that much. Just seemed a little bit empty. The lyrics and the chorus were rather amusing, I thought.

Lopez and the Destroyers- This made me really happy. Could have been a lot tighter, but the way that the vocals were done reminded me of...watching nickelodeon. Very kiddy. The self-referential songfight line was kind of unneeded, but still funny. The part at the end was really cool.

Lord of Oats- It's pretty good. Not really my thing at all, but whatever. Welldone though.

Melvin- Almost too excellently done for my tastes. The intro with the 7th chords and the huge drums and wall of guitar was almost perfect. Reminds me of something I would actually listen to. I really like it

No Horse Town- YIKES. My speakers exploded. Dig it, kind of.

Pop Quiz Chicken- I really like the backing vocal interspersed throughout this one. The reverb was tastefully done, and the shh's were excellent. I really like this one, actually.

Punglect- Normally, I would like this quite a lot, but not enough happened. Minimalistic synth with vocoder is rather nice. Ever played Animal Crossing? This reminds me of the music that the gyroids make when you turn a whole lot of them on.

Sausage Boy- Like going through a meat grinder and landing inside of an outboard motor. My favorite experience in the world. Really, the dissonant synths create a forboding landscape that I kind of dig. Would have liked it if the vocals were equally processed and not not staccato.

Sockpuppet- Beautiful. Favorite one this week by far.

Thanks for the frisbee- Rather appealing, mellowtastic. Kind of reminded me vaguely of listening to blind melon. Not really sure what it is about it, but it makes me feel warm.

The Worldly Self-Assurance- Well done, not really anything I'll be remembering in a long time. A nifty song. Nice chorus. Kind of 90s sounding.

veGetar Ianra Ge- lmaolmaolollollollollollollollollollollollollollollol.

Wages- Am I listening to Godsmack? Or am I listening to an Alice in Chains song. Well done, but not really that original.

Jason's Innocence- I really don't like this. Kind of gives me a headache.

Thanks for the input everyone, I really appreciate it.

erik: The song is about a Jewish family in hiding during the Holocaust, if that helps any.

jackfrost: The song was written for this fight, I just changed the name after I wrote it (so that the subject would be more apparent from the title), and I throw all songs I write onto the "Clever Girl" album (just more convenient). No worries though.

I know it's probably too much to ask, but if any of you are interested, I've got the origional version here. If you want to hear the before n after, that's the before, and if you'd like to review this one too, go for it.

Thanks.

Oh, I was able to figure out what your song was about, but mostly because of the tag, not because of anything in the lyrics.
