Looks like it did, yes.
Cool, thanks! I know there was some talk about having so many submissions we may need to add extra nights, which is the best kind of problem to have.

Yeah, weeks 1 and 2 were a bit sparse and needed to be padded but now we have a lot of people actually getting around to submitting. :) Also, it takes some time to prepare a video to be streamed, so for the best chance of getting in you should always try to get your video in at least a day in advance, preferably more. Basically, the sooner, the better.

(This is general advice for everyone.)

I played a cover of one of Lichen Throat's songs, but otherwise not yet.

Wow, I'm honored, and I can't tell you how much I loved this. Your version is an improvement in many ways, not least of which that you can pronounce "Natalie" so it doesn't sound like "Nelly."

I'm glad you liked it. I was very taken with your original when that fight came out.

I put together another video and uploaded it... this time for "Something's Wrong"
I know the schedule is a bit packed so don't feel obligated.

Wow, we've been getting such an amazing response from everyone for this alternate Song Fight! Live format! It's been great to see the videos everyone is making, to watch the streams evolve each week, to hang out in the stream comments, and in the Zoom after parties. This community rules!

I noticed that one thing not mentioned in the initial info is what happens if we wind up with more material than we have time to air. We'll do our best to include as many videos as we can, hopefully all of them. In the unlikely event we wind up not being able to work everything in, we will definitely follow up with more streaming events to showcase your awesome videos.

In case it's not been mentioned here yet, the inimitable Glenn Case is putting together a very special tribute to Seth Gibbs, aka Brother Machine on Song Fight, which he'll be airing on the Song Fight! YouTube channel (same place as the other Song Fight! Live streams) this Friday night at 5pm Pacific time. Details will be posted to FB/Twitter/email/calendar/etc. shortly.

So we'll have a full weekend lineup for your streaming pleasure:

- Friday night at 5pm-6pm Pacific: Seth Gibbs tribute,
- Saturday night at 5pm-9pm Pacific: night 4 of sets/videos/etc. hosted by Tom of BoffoYuxDudes, and Merisan
- Sunday night at 5pm-8pm Pacific: the live fight hosted by Spud!

Oh hey I haven't said anything, but I've really enjoyed watching. It's great to be able to feel like I'm a part of the family, seeing all your faces and such.

Shame I'm not able to get a video together, because I know you're all crying out for more gizo.

I just uploaded a three song set to the Dropbox. Two songs of mine, and one cover of another songfighter's song. I did record three of my own, but cut one for time and because reasons. Pushed myself a bit and learned some things about Premiere that I'd avoided getting into so far. I also just wrote the lyrics for my live fight submission, so yay!

Also, shut up Giz, I always want more Gizo.

I uploaded a vid of a six-song set last night, including a solo version of a BSS number.

Much fumbling to get to a <2gb file and audio that wouldn't distort on export. Fun!

If anyone needs a larger upload size, DM me and I'll arrange to get the files from you.

My recommendation for getting a smaller video file is to do your export at high quality but then use handbrake or ffmpeg to convert it to an mp4. Set the CRF to 18, and the audio to 320Kbps AAC. That should give you very high quality audio and Netflix-quality video, and 20 minutes will be around 600MB.

Alternately, if your video editor lets you tune the knobs (Premiere does, Finsl Cut doesn’t, no idea about the other ones) try setting the video to H.264 at 6Mbps and audio to AAC at 320Kbps. You might also want to set it to two-pass encoding, which should help with video quality around quick cuts and a few other things.

I only did three songs but somehow my export was over 2GB. I ran it through a converter and then it was much smaller. Hopefully it did exactly what fluffy just suggested.

Yeah, everyone keep in mind that OBS will limit the stream to 3.5Mbps, so upencoding your cell phone video at 18Mbps isn't helping anyone. Most viewers will see your video on a phone or laptop screen anyway, so the masterpiece you shot in 8k RAW on your Red Ranger is a waste.

Apparently you can get Vegas movie studio free today if you sign up for the MAGIX newsletter (spam.)

Apparently I already have a MAGIX account and cannot remember my pw. Hoping I get the reset email before the freebie expires.

Went and checked this out to see if it would work for my submissions— two caveats:

1. The offer is for Vegas Movie Studio 15. The latest version is 17.
2. Studio is the lowest tier of Vegas, and it does not include picture-in-picture. So doing the Brady-bunch style music videos is not easily done with this software.

HTH,

Aye, and I can't even get it to give me the link.

studio 14 is only 20 bucks on amazon but it's severely limited. 14 Platinum is $80. But, like you said, it's three versions behind. Which probably wouldn't bother me at all. I hear it's the best for "beginners" and is the most like reaper. I did a video with vsdc and it was like pulling teeth. Lots of little problems that I'm sure will get resolved with use and how to videos but I don't like learning curves.

On that note, I've heard that Reaper actually has some video editing functionality in it, although I haven't ever tried that myself. I've used it for scoring video though. If that's true, Reaper is effectively free if you're using it as a hobbyist (or at least it's usable for free).
