Well Rock Spectacle has nothing on it that isn't on any other of there albums, unless you count the rap about Uncle Elton (I think that's his name, haven't listened to that in a while.) However, if you want off Maybe You Should Drive...

For you Jim I'd recommend maybe "Intermittently" or "A." Those are the 2 that come immediately to mind for you.

I only a know of couple of these guys' songs, so I went to Amazon and randomly selected These Apples.

That is assuming I can still do this even though I am me.

I'm so excited about this, you have no clue... I'm trying to think of a time schedule that will allow whoever wants to do this be able to join in. I know holiday covers (Gift of music) is going on, but I was thinking if we set a deadline of Mid December sometime. My idea for incentive would be that I would at the end compile all the covers, burn them to a CD, create a cd cover, cd sleeve and then ship them to each person that participated if they so desire. Kind of a custom Barenaked Covers CD by song fighters.

Fighters who have expressed interest in doing a cover so far:

Puce - Just A Toy - [Born on a Pirate Ship]
The Cow Exchange - (?)Possibly - Alcohol - [Stunt]
Jim Tyrrell - When I Fall - [Born On A Pirate Ship or Rock Spectacle]
Jim of Seattle - (?needs to pick)
tviyh - (?needs to pick)
Denyer - These Apples - [Maybe You Should Drive or Rock Spectacle]
Frankie Big Face - What a Good Boy - [Gordon or Rock Spectacle]
prayformojo - Trust Me - [Shoebox EP]
Poor June - The Flag - [Gordon]
GlennCase - It's all been done - [Stunt]
feldspar - (?needs to pick)

Challenge has been extended to:
sonofsupercar - This Old Apartment - [Born On A Pirate Ship or Rock Spectacle] - (come on and Bring it Blue)

EDIT: Added names to the list.
EDIT2: Updated Poor June's Pick

When do I have to pick by? I was going to buy all the songs that were suggested for me and take my time. I love the CD idea.

No rush, I don't think it would be a bad thing if more than one songfighter did the same song. Just as long as it was only 2 people not 3 or more people doing the same song. I think there are a lot of good songs out there to do, so I don't see this being a problem.

Aww man, I wanna do this.

Dunno what song, though. 'Brian Wilson', mebbee? Or uh uh 'Light up my Room'. Or 'Some Fantastic'. Was gonna say 'Call and Answer', but I've written so many songs with the same progression that I think I'd feel dirty doing that.

i think i wanna do 'the flag'... tis was a tough choice... both of 'em were really good songs... hope i can do it justice...
not that it'll be perfect... just try to put my touch on it i guess...

i just did an R.E.M. cover... i'll post it in monkey affairs later on if you care to hear... (it has a few misses... but i've been bein' sidetracked with people callin' and not lettin' me be for a long period of time haha)

Ok, Let me ask the group.

Is Mid December, good?

Lets say one of these three dates:
Dec, 12th Sunday - This date I would have no problem assembling the CD creating then printing the art/sleeves, and then Mailing them out to everyone.

Dec, 15th Wednesday - This date I would have a little less time to get the mailing part done before the Christmas rush.

or Dec, 17th Friday. This date I would have to deal with the Christmas rush to get it all out before Christmas. If we get people needing more time, then it would push it past christmas before I could finish it all up.

Late me know what you all feel is the best to get this done right.

Thanks

That's like two months. If we can do an original song in a week, that should be enough for a cover.

[edit/addendum: mister maas, there is a strong likelihood i will pick a song from maroon, if only because nobody else is.]

Maroon is a great album to pick a song off of to cover. I also think Everything to Everyone has some really great songs as well.

I've seen both the Maroon and Everything to Everyone concert tours.

I've actually suggested a couple of songs off of Maroon to people.

ok, those are my random thoughts.

So maasman, are you in?
