ha, Dread Zeppelin. Funny you mention them. I was in a band once that opened for them at a club in San Jose. Early 90's I think.Paco Del Stinko wrote:I dunno. Was almost starting to smell like a Dread Zeppelin fight.

Are you really nitpicking my choice of words in a word-salad thing that was evocative of, but not intended to be the same as, an extemporaneous joke made during a roadtrip?Albatross wrote:For the record, it was an on-ramp...
Anyway I'm a fan of both well-known musical Elvises so I voted accordingly.

Re: Time for another coverfight?
I'm thinking a cover version of Bill Murray's Karaoke version (from Lost In Translation) of Elvis Costello's cover version of Nick Lowe's (What's So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding.

Re: Time for another coverfight?
I am thinking a dub elvises (elvi?) P & C mash-up. But I am pretty lazy so it's probably going to be "Tokyo Storm Warning" or "Suspicious Minds".

Is this a thing where we have to call songs or does it matter if more than one does the same song?

Elvis impersonators are knocking on my door. So what are the rules for this fight? Somebody decide and let's get it on!

Re: Time for another coverfight?
ok, it's on. Elvis (Presley) vs. Elvis (Costello). Pick one. Or mix them up. It's all good.
To avoid the pending cover/semantics argument, yes, I realize Elvis Presley covered alot of material, and didn't write alot of his most famous stuff. So anything Elvis covered is fair game, if you do it in the style of Elvis. Same with Costello.
As for repeat songs, that's ok but not preferred. If you call it first here, you called it first here, but try to do different covers if possible. But if you must cover something you know somebody else is doing as they posted it here, at least change your name so when you get slagged for it, it won't be personal.
Due date: October 1.
I'll post instructions on where to send the file later.
any other questions.....ask here.

Re: Elvis vs. Elvis
If'n we're calling dibs, then Elvis Costello's "I Want You" (since my Nur Ein love song to my wife was decidedly sub-par this year...) is my choice. Game on!

If no one else would like 'Almost Blue,' I would like to do it since I am prepping it as an eventual set piece anyway; although I know it is quite popular.

We'll be doing Suspicious Minds. No worries if someone else does it too. We plan to butcher it with gusto.

I arranged last week to do "Heartbreak Hotel" with a, um, past collaborator. I have sheet music and everything!

PS Niveous did a good cover of "Suspicious Minds" for me for GOM a few years back. That doesn't eliminate it from contention, does it?

I am in with "Are You Lonesome Tonight" by EP. If there's time, I will try "There's A Stranger In The Houae" by EC.
