So I'm still waiting for my mixing board to come back from Vancouver. When it does, I"m gonna tackle on of the songs I got, merely on principle... as I'm getting the impression that my board isn't due back for another 2 weeks.... sigh. But such is the realities of life etc etc

How is it some current stiffers have found it in them to enter other fights during this period and still not finish their GOM?
If my stiffer entered a fight and hasn't given me my GOM, I'll be very disappointed in that person and completely lose respect for said stiffer, so it would be best that I never find out. If my stiffer has run on hard times or had to attend more important life issues or maybe couldn't pay for internet or the computer broke, then I apologize for the above and hope things get better for you.

Hi. I mailed in a Stiffee song yesterday and it hasn't been put up. I'm not complaining or trying to start trouble, just puttin' it out there in case nobody's looking for it or seen it stuffed in a mailbox somewhere. Thanks. :)

Ok, I'll get this started.

Hopefully they will also get posted on the Soultree site :-)

Leaf requested "Things I do For Money" by The Northern Pikes. I saw them open for Peter Frampton in Ventura in 1989 and they were just a great live band - bought a CD the next day - so this was fun to try to do "my way."

I hope you like it Leaf, and I look forward to hearing what you do when your soundboard is back.

Hey Ross and Paco. Those are both MP3 bound. Great work!

Paco, I love QOTSA. Towards the end when you were playing the lead riff, how did you get it to sound so wide and shine through in the mix? I have a bad habit of my ending riffs getting buried as the end builds and get louder. I generally record two tracks and pan them out if I need them to stand out, but your tracks are exact, so I'm guessing it's one track with trickery.

Chris - Glad you enjoyed the tune! The leads are doubled up. I used the same guitar, same amp settings, just switched pickups. They are panned equally and EQ'd the same, as well. Right on the last riff, you can hear it switch to a simple harmony and the pan becomes more evident. The riffs were (thankfully) pretty straight forward, so doubled pretty well. S'gotta be easy for me to handle it! :)

Perhaps of interest as well: The first guitar that starts the song, and sounds panned mostly up the middle, is both speakers of a 2x12 cabinet mic'd, and panned medium wide, just not as wide as the doubled tracks. There are two different type speakers in the cab, and I used two different mics (sm57 and e609).

Oh, very cool. Subtle right and left differences give off a great sound. I like that.

I volunteered to help out doing covers for those who got stiffed, and today I finally finished my cover. This one's for you, BLT:

"Santa Monica" by Everclear, covered by Lunkhead

I thought about trying to do "Debaser" or "Stop" as I really love those songs, but I felt like the Everclear song was the one I could change up the most and have some fun with. I may upload a new version with Erin singing the lead, if I can pin her down to record some vox, but for now it's just me. Anyway, I hope you like it.

LSK feat. <
A cover of Why?'s "A Sky for Shoeing Horses Under" for Enter It In The Art Show.

A friend and I each listened to the studio version once, printed the lyrics (adding an unsubtle modification) and covered it from memory in a single take. Instruments include skewers, spoons, cups, pans, a toy tambourine, and a ukulele with strings crossed.

With that in mind, I think it turned out pretty good, especially as neither I (the singer) nor my friend (on the cups) have discernable musical talent.

This now means that I've been a stiffee (and not a stiffer-ee) twice... I should put "You Suffer" or something on my list next time.

Wow, thanks Lunk. That is killer! What an interesting key to play that song in. The guitar work is spectacular! I love it.

Lunkhead's cover is indeed amazing. Very impressive, sir. Less impressive is a gift for Me$$iah. Here is This Could Be Anywhere by Dead Kennedys. Hope you enjoy, o holy one.
