I agree that the locals should have the "headliner" spots, meaning they go last. I plan to play as a trio with Mike and Sam on drums and bass. I maybe should have mentioned that earlier...

Maybe it'd make sense to alternate solo/ensemble to make it easier to deal with the transitions?

How much time do we have each night, again? Remember that the live fight is going to probably take at least 5 minutes per artist, and often we end up with more livefight artists than sets.

Also do we have a hard cutoff point for the live fight? That's been a concern at most shows in the past.

Oh also for the purpose of promotion/posters/whatever my set should be listed as Sockpuppet.

My Lunkhead set will be just me. The Merisan set will be just me (acoustic guitar and backup vocals) and Erin (vocals) plus Micah on one song and possibly Ken on keys one other song. I should have mentioned all that sooner too, my bad!

Also this is one of the most annoying parts of hosting, and as you alluded to there is no "perfect" solution. I really appreciate not having to handle this part and I will try not to make it any harder than it has to be. Thank you owl for all the work you're doing. Also I'm happy to help with the load in/out stuff.

Erin and I arrive Thursday afternoon and we'll be renting a car and we're staying till Monday, in case I hadn't explained all that before either.

OK, rearranging accordingly; how does this sound?

Friday:
  • Lunkhead
  • Pigfarmer Jr.
  • Charm Offensive
  • Add
  • Frankie Big Face
  • Micah Sommersmith
  • owl/Gentle Brontosaurus
Saturday:
  • Merisan
  • Sockpuppet
  • ken (how do you want to be credited?)
  • Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons
  • Live fight
Per the Rigby most shows start around 9 or 10 and are usually done around 1am. They didn't mention a hard stop; bar time around here is around 2 AM. I believe we set the start time on the events to 8 PM, which would give us ~5h per night, which should be enough, yes? Let's move Pigfarmer Jr.'s solo set back to Friday to ensure we have enough time for the live fight on Saturday, and Micah's towards the end of the night on Friday to co-headline.

I would prefer not to alternate solo and full band stuff; I don't really think it makes it any easier for the changeovers, and I think it's better for the energy/noise level to go upwards through the night instead of dipping back downwards every other set (live fight excepted, I assume this is largely going to be solo stuff).

Oh yeah, also, does someone want to volunteer to record/film this? (I don't want to, someone else volunteer!)

Would anyone want me to track down nametags or anything like that?

Maybe I'm just a big softie who's worried about "feelings" and shit but could we maybe do a live fight logistical option that would have a slightly less "getting picked last in gym class" type vibe to them than "we'll all stand on the stage and everyone cheer for your favorites, ok losers get off stage"? Like, I've been to/participated in a couple of cooking competitions recently where the attendees got things (paper tickets, screws/nails) that they could deposit in a jar corresponding to their favorites, and then the numbers got tallied up and the winners got announced, personally I'd rather do something like that...

Any other "nice to have" things I can help take care of that I'm not thinking of? My little pea brain is getting rapidly filled up with anxiety and logistical details so I just want to make sure I'm not forgetting things I need to do.

Do I have these locations right?

Lunkhead (Berkeley, CA)
Pigfarmer Jr. (Columbia, MO)
Charm Offensive (Denver, CO)
Add (Denver, CO)
Frankie Big Face (Lancaster, PA)
Micah Sommersmith (Princeton, WI)
owl/Gentle Brontosaurus (Madison, WI)
Merisan (Berkeley, CA)
Sockpuppet (Seattle, WA)
ken (Berkeley, CA)
Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons (Middleton, WI)

I can go either Friday or Saturday (the current schedule is fine) and I'd love to go first or second whichever night it is (the current schedule is still fine.)
I feel as if I should be answering more questions but they escape me even as I've just read through this thread.

If there's wifi it should be easy enough to set up some sort of livestream, which should automatically record everything too. Last year someone (Lunkhead?) did it on Facebook Live which worked well enough, and I was planning on bringing gear that I could use to record and possibly stream on Twitch (bandwidth permitting).

Yes, thank you for all your hard work organizing!

Please credit me as Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff (Oakland, CA).

I will likely bring Glennny's video camera to record the shows like last year. Glennnny will cut up the video into sets and post to his youtube where all the others are.

If I am MCing, I'd like to say a little more by way of introduction than "Up next is [name] from [city]!"

I know some of you better than others, but if there's anything you'd like me to know for introduction purposes - biographical details, other musical/creative projects, how you came to Song Fight - feel free to PM me.

In case you wanted to do a little research on each act, the SFjukebox has easy to see stats about each band.

Woof, that puts me two drum sets in a row before my set. Ken or fluffy - possible to get one moved and/or some space at least before my set?

I am fine with my set being whenever, although ideally not immediately after Micah's set since I might be drumming for him and I'll need some cooldown time.

OK can we then move Merisan's set in between the sets where Mike's drumming and his main set? @Lunkhead how does that work for you?

Technically Town of Middleton, with a Verona mailing address. :geek:

FYI, the main road by me (Mineral Point) is currently "local traffic only" due to repaving, so probably add a few minutes to your projected commute. Do we have a group chat going yet so we can share sensitive information, like my address and phone number?

I'm off of work Thursday and Friday.

My practice space is ready for a typical 3-piece rock band (mics, guitar, bass, drums); aux instruments will have to arrive and plug into the PA. It would be good to know who needs to practice and who will be practicing with them and when they are available.

That is nicer, yes. I can at least catch my breath. Are we trying to keep the drums to Saturday night or fluffy would you be amenable to Friday?

If anyone's wondering why I haven't been keeping up on the forums and why I haven't practiced much yet, I've been fixing the practice room... I pretty much just need to paint at this point.

We'll have drums as well, and sounds like Micah will too. I just didn't want to do drums going back to non-drums if we can help it. How about this:

We could swap fluffy into Friday's lineup, but she didn't want to be adjacent to Micah's set. I am losing track again of who had which restrictions. :) What if we swap around Sockpuppet and Micah and do as follows? Is there a better option I am overlooking? We can go either night, but I think we had wanted to have a local "headliner" each night and Mike needed to do Saturday.

Friday:
  • Lunkhead
  • Pigfarmer Jr.
  • Charm Offensive
  • Add
  • Frankie Big Face
  • Sockpuppet
  • owl/Gentle Brontosaurus
Saturday:
  • Merisan
  • Ken's Super Duper Band 'n Stuff
  • Micah Sommersmith
  • Grumpy Mike and the Curmudgeons
  • Live fight

That works for me as long as it works for everyone else.

I think time-wise someone could jump to Saturday, if they like? Friday looks a little crowded but maybe I missed something in this discussion.

Charm Offensive/Add are both Jefff, and he said at least one of those sets will likely be on the shorter side.

I tried to leave the Saturday schedule a bit more open since I don't know how many live fight participants we'll end up having, but we have like 10-12 total Songfighters who will be here and possibly other random people who will take a stab at it. If everyone attending writes a song, that's already a good hour at least once you count in the changeover time and explanation/MC'ing and so on.

Hello everyone, just to make everything more complicated - but also excellent - Pepper Jane has been communicating with me and is planning on coming from Australia. She is flying in on Saturday so she will need to play on Saturday night.

Sorry for the late notice, she heard about it late and wasn't sure if she would be able to make it. I'll tell her to come post on the boards if she needs to give more info. As far as I know, her set will just be her on guitar.
