The colonoscopy thread

I'm due to arrive in an hour. I've read that a colonoscopy is a pretty easy procedure but I'm fearful that it'll be a pain the ass.

I have some digestive system issues in my family medical history, and I have my own mild but chronic vague digestive stuff. A while ago I went to the gastroenterologist to have things checked out to make sure there wasn't anything seriously wrong. I did a combo colonoscopy and endoscopy. Since I was also doing the endoscopy they sedated me, which I guess apparently they don't do for just a colonoscopy. Consequently I can't really speak to what the procedure was like. I definitely didn't have any post procedure discomfort or anything from the colonoscopy, just from the endoscopy which left my throat feeling a little raw. The worst part, as many people had warned me, was drinking all that prep fluid the night before. That stuff was sooooooo disgusting, and you have to drink so much of it. I'm guessing that's what inspired JK Rowling to write that one scene in Harry Potter where Dumbledore has to drink all the potion in some bowl.

Anyway, good luck, I hope it goes smoothly and all is well.

They put me out for the colonoscopy. I drank the shit juice but combined it with powerade zero and it wasn't nearly as terrible as I've been warned about.

Mostly good results pending the outcome of a biopsy which they told me not to worry about in that tone of voice that makes you worry.

Ironically I also just had a colonoscopy/endoscopy last week. I was disappointed in the anesthesia; I was hoping for some serious opiates

Around 10 years ago I went through a battery of tests due to some GI issues that were difficult to suss out, and I had a separate endoscopy and colonoscopy. I was sedated for both, but for the endoscopy I was at least lucid enough to ask for a photograph to keep, which they thought was weird but they happily gave me one, and I still have it. I never got around to getting it framed though.

I had an endoscopy a few years ago cause I managed to give myself gastritis via far too much black coffee and hot sauce. It was...a thing. I don't like being aesthetised.

I had my first colonoscopy about a year ago, the prep was by far the hardest part. No solid food for 2 days and a ton of laxatives. I had to get a bottle of Miralax meant to be taken over two weeks, and take the whole thing in one day. That was... fun.

I had four benign polyps removed.

I've been having colonoscopies every three years since about Bad Dreams. Fun Times. One time I woke up from sedation and the recovery nurse was one of my old mates from high school - awks!

I recently had the spitroast (both ends at once), and followed it up with a funky camera-pill to get photos of the bits in between.

Jackson Polyp says hi, btw

More cameras than the Big Brother house. Do organs get voted out?

I found a burned CD in a free bin at the Okanogan Family Faire in 2019, and all it said on it was "Colorectal Surgeon". I have since Google it and am happy to say this gem of a track can be enjoyed by all thanks to YouTube. Still haven't had to go in yet myself.

Thanks to exploratory procedures leading up to diagnosis of Crohn's disease, yearly-ish follow up procedures to assess the status of said Crohn's disease, and a hospitalization for c diff back a few years, I have literally lost track of my exact 'scope count but it's around ten at the wizened age if thirty eight.

At this point it's about as routine as an oil change if oil changes also meant a really excellent nap.

One thing is a little strange is I used to get propophyl as anesthesia but the last few times they've went to "conscious sedation". In my experience that is thankfully mostly a misnomer; the first time I was completely out, the second time a distant part of my brain said "oh yikes, THATS interesting" a few times during the procedure but I was otherwise high enough to not care.
