Lightning Rod
Pigfarmer Jr
She's a magnet for trouble
Mayhem surrounds her life
Her innocent smile doesn't fool anybody
Her eyes: the blade of a knife
Lightning Rod!
Lightning Rod!
She's the eye of a maelstrom
Unaware of her jagged debris
She doesn't know why we're running for cover
To her it's a mystery
Lightning Rod!
Lightning Rod!
Lightning Rod!
Lightning Rod!
I fell in love with an angel
Cast out of heaven above
She ripped out my heart and ate it for breakfast
'Cause that's what a Jezebel does
Lightning Rod!

the pannacotta army
Why are everyone’s eyes so blinded?
There are reasons we should be frightened
When I’m standing beside you I’m fearless
You’re my only hope to get through this
Because I’ve lost all faith in god
I don’t know what to believe or not
But you’re still my lightning rod
I’m on top of a plastic mountain
So why does it feel like I’m drowning?
We keep on poisoning every ocean
Making promises that are broken
And I’ve lost all faith in god
I don’t know what to believe or not
But you’re still my lightning rod
the pannacotta army
Why are everyone’s eyes so blinded?
There are reasons we should be frightened
When I’m standing beside you I’m fearless
You’re my only hope to get through this
Because I’ve lost all faith in god
I don’t know what to believe or not
But you’re still my lightning rod

I'm sexy electric a lightning rod
Come see me some time and I'll give you a shock
Be careful when you touch
It just might be too much
Put up my antenna pull electricity fromn the sky
Embrace me if you dare you might get paralyzed
You gotta choose - No time to lose
I'm gonna zap you I'm a lightning rod
I'm gonna zap you I'm a lightning rod
I'm sexy electric
I'm sexy electric
I'm sexy electric a lightning rod

Lightning Rod - Brown Word and the Big Whine
Inspiring
Like something from beyond
Super cell flash
300 million volts right down your back
When the skies break open
And the heavens start to fall
When the air is electric
And the thunder starts to roll
You'll be a lightning rod
Channeling the skies
You'll be a lightning rod
Gathering the strike
Super cell flash
300 million volts right down your back
When the skies break open
And the heavens start to fall
When the air is electric
And the thunder starts to roll
You'll be a lightning rod
Channeling the skies

Lightning Rod - John Gillespie
As I prepared to leave
Father came in, sat down, yet turned from me
Child, out there you can’t be as you’ve been
Better to live with greed
Than be the victim of your sympathies
Walking the high road’s lonely
If you stand up tall and proud,
Then life will find you, beat you down
Don’t speak out, just go along, don’t
Make yourself a lightning rod!
When you pass through that door
Nobody tolerates that mouth no more
Better a whisper than waggle of jaw
If you act all tall and tough, then this
World can find you, eat you up
Don’t speak out, just go along, don’t
Make yourself a lightning rod!
As I prepared to leave
Father came in, sat down, yet turned from me
Child, out there you can’t be as you’ve been
Better to live with greed
Than be the victim of your sympathies
Walking the high road’s lonely
If you stand up tall and proud,
Then life will find you, beat you down
Don’t speak out, just go along, don’t
Make yourself a lightning rod!

Re: Lightning Rod
Lightning Rod
(lyrics by Jeff Robertson, music & performance by King Arthur)
Here I am broke down by the road
Goin' nowhere with a heavy load
You won't hear me say I did not expect this
And I'm not that surprised
At the look that's in your eyes
As you're telling me that this will be our last kiss.
I seem to draw the wrath of God
Like a damned old lightning rod
Misery and pain, I've had my share
Yes, I draw the wrath of God
Like a damned old lightning rod
Trouble seems to find me everywhere.
People tell me I've been bad
And I don't disagree with that
Some might even say that I'm to blame
But while others seem to scrape
Get by and escape
For me the story always ends the same.
(chorus)
Every time I see a hearse
I'm reminded things could be worse
I could be the guy who's ridin' inside.
I'm too numb to feel the pain
Standing out here in the rain
Knowing there's nowhere for me to hide
(chorus)

See the wizard climb the mountain
See the iron staff in his hands
What secrets will he soon possess?
What new powers at his command?
What does the lightning know?
What will the lightning show?
What truths will be told?
We shall never, we shall never know
We shall never, we shall never know
We shall never, we shall never know what truths
The lightning holds
We never saw the wizard again
A black puddle bubbled where he’d been
His iron staff now a molten stone
It smelled funny so we left it alone
How does it feel when the lightning strikes?
What do you see within it’s light?
What powers does the lightning hold?
We shall never, we shall never know
We shall never, we shall never know
We shall never, we shall never know what truths
The lightning holds

There’s so much I want to forget
Ashes falling off my cigarette
You see this skin? You can’t think it will last
There is nothing that can change this fast
Hey you wanna see your God?
Hey I’ve become his lightning rod
I see more each day than I did the one before
A kind of dread that I’m leaving at the door
There won’t be another chance in this life
Now’s the time to make things right
Hey you wanna see your God?
Hey I’ve become his lightning rod
I know where we will go
I know
I know

Lightning Rod
mellfire (with thanks to wikipedia's Roy Sullivan page)
Roy was born in East Virginia
Grew up in Greene County
At 24 a real park ranger
Shenandoah was his favorite place in the world
Squint a bit and he was Gene Hackman
With a badge and a uniform
How was he to know black magic
Would make him more attractive than he’d ever imagined?
Roy got hit the first time in April '42
In a new fire tower with no lightning rod
It burned his leg, hit his toe, and left a bloody hole in his shoe
You might think that’s the end of the story, but it ain’t
Second time was many years later
Driving in his truck
Knocked him out, set his hair on fire
Woke up with no brows or any lashes to speak of
At a cliff’s edge, stopped, with no other people around
The first attack was surprising
The second one was strange
After six he started thinking:
“Papa told me lightning doesn’t ever strike twice
I’ve been burned so many times, why do I survive?”
Seventh time Roy was fishing at the edge of a pretty lake
The lightning burned him head to chest and sent him on the run
He turned toward his car, and that’s when he saw the bear
You might think that’s the end of the story, but it ain’t
One morning in the early ’80s
Roy could not be found
He was dead from his own gunshot
He had made it certain that he wouldn’t recover
Went out on his own terms

I'm happy to be your weathervane
Tell you when the winds've changed
I'll be your furnace on a frigid night
I'll be your undisturbed attic of vermiculite
I'll be your '39 Ford with a PTO
I'll be your hay-stuffed overalls for scaring the crows
I'll be your clean-of-all-dirt-with-a-tucked-in-shirt
Getaway date in a rental yurt
But if you dare to cross Zeus or you anger Thor,
You'd better be ready for what's in store.
'Cause whatever name that you call your god
I just ain't gonna be your lightning rod.
I'll be your gambrel roof with a cupula too
The shimmering steam from the morning dew
I'll be your grounding spike for the electric fence
A pulse of high voltage every now and then
I'll be your mercury-free thermometer
Nailed to the trunk of a conifer
I'll be your high-drive pulley from the widow's peak
Call it a hayhood or a duck's beak
Well you can call him Yahweh or Jupiter
Allah, [Ronnie James] Dio, or Lucifer
It don't matter to me what you call your god
I just ain't gonna be your lightning......rod
