A Grand Parade, Hot Pink Halo

***

Roll up roll up
It’s time to start the show
It’s the show at the show
Of the show about the show

There’s a prize winning bull
Draped in ribbons and in fame
Cut the lino, cut the crap
Cut a mount for the frame

And join the grand parade
Give it time and accept that it’s started
Join the grand parade
Skip to the end and find
Two hands holding your heart

Roll up roll up
It’s time to show the start
It’s the start at the start
Of the starting of the start

There’s a prize winning bird
Draped in colours and in love
Pull the screen, pull the strings
Pull when push comes to shove

And join the grand parade
Give it time and accept that it’s started
Join the grand parade
Skip to the end and find
Two hands holding your heart
Devil’s got me Lindt! Devil’s got me Lindt!

A Grand Parade – The Chebuctones
Words by James Owens
Music by Ryan Reed

Well I’ve been renovicted for a fancy B&B
I can’t afford the rent on what has trickled down to me
There’s no place left for honest folk whose work is poorly paid
And so you’ll find us pitching tents down on the Grand Parade

In summertime it’s easy if you don’t mind all the noise
From all the bars on Argyle with their rowdy girls and boys
And traffic down on Barrington and up by Scotia Square
You shut your eyes and tell yourself at least the weather’s fair

When summer turns to winter, the Parade is not so Grand
When it’s blowing a Nor’easter and the snow is on the land
And bitter winds are howling from across the Eastern Shore
And you’re huddled in your tent and you can’t take it any more

So now the city up and says it knows just what to do
It won’t be building houses, for it has no money to
Developers will see to that, if they can turn a buck
And if they can’t, the Grand Parade is S.H. out of luck

Now they say they’ll billet us somewhere that has a roof
And as to what our lives are like, well there you’ll find the proof
That just because we have no home, they think we’re all no good
They’ll give us rules to make us live the way they think we should

We’ll not accept their curfews and their turning out of lights
They think they need to manage us, but what gives them the right?
A bit of shelter at the cost of dignity betrayed?
I’ll pitch my tent and make my stand down on the Grand Parade!

GENERIC INSIDE AND GENERALLY COLD AND SO THEY'VE DECIDED , IT’S IN THE SCIENCE, I'M READY TO CHOKE.

A Grand Parade
Chumpy vs. Lichen Throat

Hours before the scheduled time,
By the Main Street Trolly’s chime,
Every day in Anaheim
They line the colored sidewalks.
Blankets on the concrete street,
By winter’s chill or summer’s heat,
The days cannot be complete
Without a march down this block.

They all await a grand parade,
Squeezing into the meagre shade,
Dreaming of the mousy cavalcades.
Oh, it’s a grand parade, parade, parade.

Past the ancient Matterhorn
Come princesses and unicorns,
Heralds blowing shiny horns
At barely a crawling pace.
Goofy’s there in rumpled hat,
With the big-eared mouse and sous-chef rat
And all the royal autocrats
In yards of pink silk and lace.

They all wave to a grand parade,
Actors wrapped in thick brocade,
The smiling faces of the underpaid.
It’s a grand parade, it’s a grand parade.

We held tight to coaster bars,
Drove lawnmower-powered cars,
Shopped in Tatooine’s bazaars,
Or fixed our gaze on smoggy stars.

I stay away from the grand parade;
No more sailing on jungle glades,
The boom of the pirates’ cannonade.
No more grand parade.

A Grand Parade
Pigfarmer Jr

In the heart of the city as the sun is shining bright
There's a spectacle from dawn until the night
Crowds gather underneath the sun's hot glow
People pouring out as the streets overflow

Join the grand parade, hear the crowd roar
Try to catch the candy as the kids scream for more
Listen to the bands as they try to serenade
All the lovely people at the grand parade

Floats adorned with flowers, the red, white and the blue
Pulled through clean streets until horses saunter through
Watching the performers with their colors on display
Happy for the weather, for the bright, sunny day

Join the grand parade, hear the crowd roar
Try to catch the candy as the kids scream for more
Listen to the bands as they try to serenade
All the lovely people at the grand parade

Listen to the trumpets, listen to the drums
Watch the people marching underneath the hot sun
Take a drink of water there's hours more to go
Standing her all day just to watch the show

Join the grand parade, hear the crowd roar
Try to catch the candy as the kids scream for more
Listen to the bands as they try to serenade
All the lovely people at the grand parade

Little snapshots, faces blurred
Ancient places that haven't returned
Moving faster in your mind
What is real, what is fantasized?

The grand parade's not what you think
You search the world but you might miss the link
The truth is here, it's meant to last
Embrace the now, forget the past.

Time is swift and oft unkind
Out of sorts and left behind
Roll the die it's all up to chance
Ignore the small and the large expanse.

Deceit appears in many flavors
Empty words from hopeless strangers
Do not worry be that traveler.

A Grand Parade
by melvin

It’s about that time
Pour a drink and slip into my chair
Put a record on
Gonna listen to a thousand songs

And I know it’s way too late
To expect a grand parade

But we got a real cool rhythm
Catchy little melody
And I sing backup
Pete, he always does his thing

And Glen’s sweet solo
Ken is sitting in the groove
And Friz always comes up with
words that make my heartstrings move

And we could have a rubber band
We could have a whole youth choir
We could have an hour
And still make something beautiful

It was truly magic
We were sonic serpentine
And if we get a drumline
Well, yeah we might deserve it

Then the whole wide world
Will know us by our
Tunes and harmonies
Our licks and lines
We’ve got a thousand more
Just like that

It’s about that time
Grab my Gibson turn my Fender on
Raise a fist above
Gonna make another songfight song

And I know it’s way too late
To expect a grand parade

But we got a real moody verse
A super-catchy chorus hook
When it comes to earworms
Friz, he really wrote the book

Pete takes his guitar
on a jangly, crunchy twist
and paints human stories
like a bedroom novelist

And Glen glides across
the fretboard to and fro
plays what I wish I could
Oh shit, where do my fingers go?

Ken lays the foundation
I just add a tambourine
and we’re making music
that should be in a magazine

Then the whole wide world
Will know us by our
Tunes and harmonies
Our licks and lines
We’ve got a thousand more
Just like that

Bless my brothers

Welcome to the grand parade
Where time is on your side
We’ve been going 25 years
And very few have died

A thousand songs, a thousand sermons
Thousands more to hear
So come right up and sing along
There’s nothing left to fear

Come watch our float, this one’s a boat
Driven with the GAS
You buy another pedal, you think
It’ll be your last

Come watch the cavalcade, get laid
Just you and your guitar
Put on the nerdcore serenade
This career will go far

Become the one who jumps the gun
Write before the post
Who cares if the title don’t match
Your song we want to host

We write, we fight, we play to win
The only prize? a boast
Not every song can be the best
But try to win the most

Welcome to the grand parade
Where time is on your side
We’ve been going 25 years
And very few have died, HA
HA HA HA!!!

in a grand parade
we hide that we’re afraid
play along with the charade

in a grand parade
we lie and say we’re brave
fall down to our knees and pray

In a grand parade
we never see we’re slaves
we carry it into our graves

when we feel betrayed
we cover our dismay
just part of a grand parade

A grand parade

By: Thanks for the Frisbee

You hold a place for me
that keeps repeating, I fail
In remembering why you believe in me

It’s cold
when I remember all the reasons why
I deserve a life of misery

I can’t wait another day to get this off my mind
I don’t want this title wave to wash you out of my life

You hold
open arms for a healing
I feel heart start beating, lungs, inflate again

Marching down the road
Parade of mistakes won’t let me
Climb onto your float
Wave to the crowd like you want me there when I know you don’t

You are love
I am stuck
Not a victim
Just not enough

It’s a sunny day, with blue skies, no clouds, when we leave
We walk with the crowds, your little hand holding onto my sleeve
Hearing the drums and the bikes getting near
I look over at you and your smile’s ear to ear

All the cheers and laughter, it’s all because of you.
Everyone smiles when you walk into their view
My love will never fade cuz you’re the star of my grand parade

If there were elephants and lions, I’d never know because I’m watching you
You make me push through the mess and always come back to pull through
The world may be grey but right now it’s bright as the sun
The streamers and confetti, promises the best is yet to come

It’s a sunny day, with blue skies, no clouds, when we leave
We walk with the crowds, your little hand holding onto my sleeve
Hearing the drums and the bikes getting near
I look over at you and your smile’s ear to ear

All the cheers and laughter, it’s all because of you.
Everyone smiles when you walk into their view
My love will never fade cuz you’re the star of my grand parade
Songfighter since back in the day.

A Grand Parade
Chthonic Black

With iron and blood, we shall seal the beast's demise.
For in the eyes of the serpent, our victory now lies.
A caravan of souls, silent as the dead.
Through the shadowed mountain pass, we tread.

Hear ye! Hear ye! A Grand Parade!
As tribute to the Duke by the power of my blade!

With steel and will, our destinies unfold.
Hear the harpy’s echoes, in verses grim and cold.
Ahead in darkness gloom, our caravan shall weave,
Through the mountain's crags, where the shadows cleave.

Hear ye! Hear ye! A Grand Parade!
As tribute to the Duke by the power of my blade!

Eyes aglow with a vengeful fire's light,
We carry forth the beast's head through the night.

A caravan's journey, the end is almost here.
Beyond the shadow of the peaks, no longer shall we fear.
With Hydra's head in tow, a symbol of our might.
To Gran Soren's gates at last, a beacon in the night.

Hear ye! Hear ye! A Grand Parade!
As tribute to the Duke by the power of my blade!
Hear ye! Hear ye! A Grand Parade!
As tribute to the Duke by the power of my blade!

A Grand Parade
All the Robots

Every night I’m dreaming
Of my affairs from way back when
And I wake up screaming
From that same nightmare again

All my doomed romances
On the boulevard arrayed
The flings and dalliances
Form a sinister parade

Yes it’s all in my mind
This obscene cavalcade
But how it disconcerts and vexes
me this grand parade of exes

At the lead marches Roberta
My first love, the majorette
Once I swore I’d never hurt her
But then I met Lisette

Who I see marching next to Rita
And Yolanda, and Lenore
I confess I was a cheater
But they kept coming back for more

And though it’s all in my mind
I can’t help but be afraid
Like a procession of T-Rexes
It’s a grand parade of exes

There's Sherilee and Shannon
Among the banners and the floats
All my erstwhile companions
I hope they're not comparing notes

Natalie was rather naughty
But her interest was fading
Beth and Dottie both forgot me
They don't know why they're parading

As they march through my mind
The mistakes I have made
Could fill a hole the size of Texas
Or a grand parade of exes

I’ve played this stupid game over and over,
And something’s always gone wrong
I’ll be remembered as some caddish Casanova:
Exactly what I Don Juan

I know it’s all in my mind
This perverse promenade
Still it hits my solar plexus
It’s a grand parade of exes

Oh yes it’s all in my mind
This obscene cavalcade
But how it disconcerts and vexes
me this grand parade of exes

36 songs?? 😮 and counting

The sounds of birds and ringing
Bells in harbor and the
Children playing and the
Neighbors laughing as they walk

Do you believe
Do you believe they were so happy
What would make it real to you?

I guess the circus is in town
The pigs are walking dogs in camouflage
The best and purest bred
Of each in turn i bet but
Don't prick a hemophiliac

And don't you try to run
You better face the front

We don't need a grand parade
Do you need a lie to sleep tonight
Would you celebrate the bed they made
Or would you walk away
And what does it mean to you to-

The sound of children playing
Screaming as they're playing
Laughing as they're playing
Screaming as they're playing

And don't you turn around
And don't you dare fall down

We didn't need a grand parade
Why did you need a lie to sleep at night?
Would you lay down in the bed they made
Or would you walk away
And what does it mean?
The answer is you're doing it

Grandpa Raid [shadow]

Pinterest says 2024
Big fashion trend is grandpa-core
So over the hill and through the wood
We're on our way to Grandpa's hood

Up in the attic - cardboard boxes
Fashion choices time forgot
Plaids, polos, blazers, twills
He should have dropped off at Goodwill

He didn't. We visit. They will be ours

It's a Grandpa raid
A style parade
We're gonna impress
‘Cause we're looking so great

It's a Grandpa raid
Classics never fade
We're gonna impress
‘Cause we're looking so great today

We don't have to pay
Just make fresh lemonade
He says it's fair trade
So easy to persuade

Corduroy and suede
It's all well made
Some day when we're gray
Our grandkids may say

They didn't. We visit. It will be ours

A Grand Parade
by Jerkatorium

You marched out so theatrically
I could almost hear John Sousa
And I laughed at your majorette act
Yet I still proved the loser

‘Cause I’m so easily erased
And I’m so easily replaced
Now word is out all over town
And all the boys are coming ‘round

A grand parade of men
Is lined up to court you
A grand parade
to comfort and support you
But I know
You don’t want that parade
You don’t want that line
You should be all mine
Only mine

When they see you’re not with me
It’s cause for celebration
They dance in formation
At your slightest shy flirtation

And now I’m feeling so distraught
That I could be quickly forgot
And I regret my screwing up
While all the boys are queueing up

A grand parade of men
Is lined up to court you
A grand parade
To comfort and support you
But I know
You don’t want that parade
You don’t want that line
You should be all mine
Mine all mine

Vom Vorton

every time I close my eyes, I see disaster
and I’m crossing all my fingers it’s not too late
but everything just seems to keep on happening faster
no matter how hard we stamp on the brakes

and when we raise our voices
they change the laws to spite us
but if we throw a party
then they won’t think to fight us

so we should have a grand parade
for all the mistakes that they made

everybody loves a massive celebration
so lets raise our empty glasses in ironic cheers
sing the praises of a broken fucking nation
as we soak in the sadness of the last thousand years

and at the end I hope the spite
and the malevolence lingers
when we look them in the face
and reveal our crossed fingers

we should have a grand parade
for all the mistakes that they made

There were a few minor lyric changes during the recording, this is the original "as written" lyric.

The older I get, the more I believe
That I've had my money's worth for what I paid
I'm not letting go, but I probably have
Covered my share of the grand parade.

I've been back to beginnings, close enough to the end
A little confused, not exactly afraid
All things considered, I guess that it's been
Enough to declare it a grand parade.

I've been the marshall, I've been the band
I've been alone at the back of the stand
Great whatever here I am, at your command.

Don't know just how many more miles I can march
But however far the rails have been laid
I guess I'll continue step upon step
Until comes the end of the grand parade.

A Grand Parade
by Tiny Robots

When the curtains open do you hear applause
In the back row I’ve been watching
A patron of your cause
And the spotlight catches every single move
Maybe I can see some truth now
There’s nothing to disprove

Said that we were unforgivable, no helping me or you
But we’ve been mending bridges enough to pass on though

Lining up along the road
Waving hands and plastered smiles
For a moment we are gold
The grand parade goes on for miles
You lost yourself in the crowd

Ticking time and I’m no stranger to its toll
I’ve been wondering just how much
I get to know this soul
Hurts to see you hiding out in such plain sight
I don’t blame you for lying
But that don’t make it right

Said that we were unforgivable, no helping me or you
But we’ve been mending bridges enough to pass on though

Lining up along the road
Waving hands and plastered smiles
For a moment we are gold
The grand parade goes on for miles
You lost yourself in the crowd

A Grand Parade
by Berkeley Social Scene

We've marched together for so long
Written almost 1000 songs
Of all the games we’ve played
Stayed with this thing over a decade

Kept one foot ‘front of the other
Fusing words and chords together
Each lyric born, a battle won,
Those melodies, they carry on.

And the band marches on,
With every beat, our spirits are strong.
When that next title comes along,
We'll find the rhythm, brave and strong

With open hearts and outstretched hands
We welcome others to join our band
For music binds us, and sets us free
This joyous, grand community.

Kept one foot ‘front of the other
Fusing words and chords together
Each note defines just who we are,
Our legacy shines bright and far.

And the band marches on,
With every beat, our spirits are strong.
When that next title comes along,
We'll find the rhythm, brave and strong

And the band marches on,
With every beat, our spirits are strong.
When that next title comes along,
We'll find the rhythm, brave and strong

And the band marches on,
With every beat, our spirits are strong.
When that next title comes along,
We'll find the rhythm, brave and strong

Holding on to these threads,
balloon stretching up to the sky
sipping on lemonade

we were headed for the fields
we were running through the corn baby
anywhere the shadows grew
then seeking out familiar
faces in the crowd
and doing our best to keep up
with this grand parade

Under the sun's tender gaze
with costumes and masks that we made
we lose ourselves in the fray

we were headed for the fields
we were running through the corn baby
anywhere the shadows grew
then seeking out familiar
faces in the crowd
and doing our best to keep up
with this grand parade

and your grand parade

march on and on and on
in all directions
over the horizon
no intersection

short man wave your hand
doling out imagined commands
expecting to be obeyed
oblivious people on the street
in their grand parade

march on and on and on
in all directions
over the horizon
no intersection
