Song Fight! Live, Western North America Tour, 2007
In order to let Sven have his thread back, I thought I would make a new thread for this new idea.
The idea seems to be to have a series of Song Fight! affiliated shows (fightmasters permitting, of course) up the West coast of the US and on into the interior of the Northwester USn and up into Canada.
Ken found what looks to be a pretty sweet van rental server:
http://www.bandago.com/
Their rates seem low enough as to be within reach of the combined resources of groups of fighters. They have locations in LA, SF, and Seattle, which are all areas of relatively high fighter concentration.
If we had the locals on the tour stops provide the major bulky items necessary for a gig (drums, amps, PA if necessary) then we could travel pretty lightly and efficiently.
Furthermore, this would be an ideal subjcet for a documentary about our little community, blending road movie, concert movie, and profile of a social scene.
If anybody wants to add to or revise this summary, please do.
I think it's a big huge scary crazy idea, but it's also really exciting. I don't know jack about planning tours, and I'm guessing not many other people here do either, but that doesn't mean we can't figure it out.

whatever i can do to help facilitate making something like this happen, i'm willing.
it is scary and exciting.
that's why i'm interested. plus, it's not about the destination but the journey.

I've only read the Web site, I haven't called them, but it did sound to me from their FAQ and other info like at least going from LA to SF to Seattle would be OK. They did indeed say venturing into Canada was at least allowed. They also talk about how they reimburse people for doing oil changes every 3000 miles. So it seemed to me like they were expecting their customers to put on some serious mileage, at least in some cases. Probaly the only way to know for sure would be to call them up or e-mail them.

How fun is all this, eh? Road Trip!Bandago quotes page wrote:All rates are per day rates. 250 miles are included for every day you have the vehicle (i.e. 10 days = 2500 miles). Additional miles are .35 a mile.

The problem with coming into Canada with a van like that is that they'd probably never believe that you weren't going to be getting paid to play one or more shows. That would mean you'd need to have work visas from whatever venue you intended to play at. You could try to get tricky and have someone claim you are coming to record at their studio, but that could backfire.
Meanwhile, this is just my kind of crazy. I wish I could say for sure that I'll have that much vacation by the summer and be able to afford it. However, I kind of doubt I will.

hahaha. stick me with april fool's day, huh?
sounds good. there's a small venue/restaurant in town, or I have some ins with the student union guys. probably we could find a good turnout here. college town. could simulcast on KUOI if we all promise to not swear (or start at 10pm). we might have to rename it the Left Coast and Inland Northwest tour, though.

ken and i did this drive together on the way to seattle. i still remember how long it was.....Rabid Garfunkel wrote:Interesting... guess I should start making friends with venues up here, heh.
Oh, and Ken, the Bay Area-PDX leg is a good 9-10 hours long, depending on weather. Glenn, what's the Seattle-Spokane trip like?
of course i did most of the driving
maybe there needs to be a travel day between bay area and portland shows.
Hi!
