Friend Flooding? Is that a song fight term? But yes, I told my friends to come vote here. doesn't everyone? I thought that was the point to get more visitors and votes.

I guess the question is whether the vote is about who has the best song or who has the most friends.

There is a phenomenon of which you will become familiar that we at SongFight! call "beginner's luck". When you enter your first song, it is easy to get your friends to come here and vote for you. After a while, you are still entering, but the novelty has worn off, your friends have moved on, and the playing field is level again. Some of them will stick around and listen, perhaps become fans, and some may even enter themselves. That is a good thing.

In the end, it all comes out in the wash. But it's gotta be a little frustrating for the next guy in line, who might have a better song, but whose friends gave up last week.

Read the link. It is good to introduce friends to Songfight, but not by saying "HEY, GO VOTE FOR MY SONG!" If you just say "Vote for me", how many are gonna come on, click your name, and go? And then how many are gonna come on, listen to all the songs, vote for their favourite, and then stick around for a while?

And it's no fun if you win with 103 votes when there were only 110 votes in total. It doesn't give you that warm fuzzy feeling when you win.

I read the whole thread and I was offended not just at the friendflooding but at the way that you characterized everyone at Song Fight. You clearly don't understand this site which you just found a couple weeks ago and yet you try to speak for everyone on it. Real classy, man.

Hint: Not everyone on the Internet is just like you.

Billy, you had a rocking tune. I really liked it. There's nothing wrong with advertising, but the idea is that people listen to all of the entries and vote for their favorite. My friends usually write me back and tell me how great Jordan Seavers or Melvin is.

"... it's just for fun. Most of you probably wouldn't enjoy the site because it's pretty lame, in a good way.

... I'm usually too busy, so please go vote for me, even if you don't like my song.
The name of my band is Billy's Little Trip. Go here to vote >> http://www.songfight.org/index.php

I'm not sure if you have to register to vote, let me know."

So your friends on that site voted for you even though they had complaints about your song and seemed to like the Glenn Case song and the Cranial Biffida song more than yours.

I don't know man, I hope I don't come off as a sore loser, I have long since given up on caring about the vote. What I've grown to really care about are the Review threads. You did rather well on by the way, but the way I read the boards I think collectively our little "fat wanna-be musician" community liked the Glenn Case song the best. He gets the moral victory in my book.

But Hey, you're a newbie, (I'm actually only a year in at this point). You get a pass in my book. I hope you continue to submit rockin tunes!

Hi Billy,

Proper Song Fight etiquette is to send email/spam to all your friends saying something like the following:

"Hey everybody, I've entered a song at songfight.org under the name Billy's Little Trip. You should go and listen to the songs, then vote for your favorite."

So you publicize your entry and the site but in an egalitarian way that everybody will think is fair, even though your friends will just go vote for you anyway. This is how you make an effort to avoid the accusation of "friend flooding" the vote, which you will be accused of regardless.

Of course, if Glennny's quotes are accurate, you sure do sound like a jerk.

You're too busy to listen to everybody else? Hey that's fine, but don't admit it. And you expect everybody to puff your ego with a vote even if they hate your song? And you haven't even bothered to learn how the site works, so you don't know if you have to register?

Geez, dude. Why am I bending over backward to be nice to you? As one of the people who runs the site, you're kind of insulting me with that stuff. Just FYI.

Wow, thanks to everyone for explaining all of this. I haven't gotten around to all of the threads at song fight yet, so thank you Bjam for pointing me to the friend flood thread. I read the first two pages and I now get it. I made a post there.
The truth is, Glenn, whom I just noticed is a mod here, made one simple statement that summed it up perfectly.
Accept my apologizes all, I'll promote song fight in a new way, because I honestly think this place should be seen by the world.

Oh, and Fluffy, it's a shame that you are offended for all of song fight. That's quite a big burden for a guy to carry. I felt I gave a pretty good representation of song fight as I first saw it, to a group of people that enjoys listening to music, but don't really know about people that enjoy making music.

I never voted for myself, and in my thread pointing people to song fight, I even mention who I voted for and suggested they listen.

Edit: My name is Chris, by the way.

looks like things have really hit the fan since i last checked the boards
dont trip chris ( bad joke sorry ) you done a bad thing...got caught with your hand in the cookie jar. lots of people have a noob friend flood victory, but the sad thing is that some of the veterans have few and far between victories..if any..and even though the win doesnt mean anything tangible, i would love to see someone deserving on the winners line. your song was really good, its fun to see how many random people actually took the time to listen to every song and vote for you ya know? if you muddy the waters even YOU dont end up fulfilled with the experience. sorry if any of this was covered already...i just thought i would add my two cents.
bottom line i think you must have learned your lesson and can start out with a clean slate next time IMO.
Thanks for the frisbee is on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music ect.

Thank you Glennny. I really am a good guy and I just like having fun. If I can get a few more passes, I can assure everyone I really am here for the same reason all of you are, the love for creating music and listening to original creations. I just wanted to do good my first time in. i'm really not a score card guy. I just got caught up in the competition in the wrong way at first.

I'm not offended for the board, I'm offended for me personally. I have put a lot of time and energy into this site. It has been a bit part of my life. I hate to see it belittled as a "myspace for musicians" populated by "washed-up middle-aged wannabe rockers."

That wasn't said by me, but I did quote that post by saying, we prefer to be referred to as portly middle aged wunnabe rockers, or something to that effect. You can't let idiots like that get to you Fluffy. If I hammered back at that comment, I'd be as ignorant as him.
By the way, I may have an odd way of wording things, but I really talked about song fight with excitement. I am a goofy in a good way musician.
Come on, to anyone first finding this place, with fight masters, a new song per week, cover the Yacht Rock? My first thought was, this place is NUTS! Then within a day I thought, this place is home, where has song fight been all my life.
