Good morning everybody! I'm working a half day today from 7:30-11:30 so Phil can go to his doctor's appointment without having to tote the kids along. Tomorrow I have some big marketing event to attend most of the day, so... Looks like I'll be really behind next week too.

Last night I played Diner Dash on Phil's DS for way too long. I love that game.

Who is the most famous person you've met? (They don't have to be celebrity famous, just famous to you.)

I've met a few famous people in my time...

I have met loads of famous british actors and actresses, but through my job which I guess maybe doesn't count? Most famous American would be Kathleen Turner...

I met Andy Partridge from XTC. He was in Boston on an album signing tour. Colin Moulding had been with him as far as NYC, but didn't make the trip up to Beantown.

My wife had dinner with Edward Gorey. This was before I met her. Recently, in a flurry of Feng Shui-motivated clutter reduction, she nearly threw out an autographed set of postcards she had gotten from him. I saved 'em.

I had my university degree conferred on me by Sir Peter Ustinov. By the time next year's graduates came along he was dead. Around the same time, I also chatted with Chesney Hawkes about his new album as he tried to flog it to me, it was rubbish.

QOTD: Sometime in the early sixties, a bunch of us had gone roller skating and Lloyd Bridges was there. I was one of the many kids who scraped up some paper and a pen and got an autograph (which is another one of those things I had at one time and I'm not sure where it is anymore). This would have been right around the end of his run on "Sea Hunt."

I got the Suburban to the Chevy dealer yesterday afternoon and got to sit in the waiting room for three hours and all they did was "inspect" the car to figure out what parts they have to order to install when I go back next time. Sure glad I had my MP3 player with me...

Today is another pretty much uncommitted day. Try again to figure out the world of grocery shopping and meal planning (anybody know any good books on the subject?), etc. There's a big Job Fair on the other side of town this afternoon, but I'm really not ready to face that yet...

I've brought this up before but since you're askin':

I was alone in a tech office for 20 minutes with <b>OJ Simpson</b> before he did an online Q/A for an internet broadcast about 5 or so years ago. Oh we talked and talked and he went on how he was giving all the money he was making for the gig to children's charity and what not. (I'm sure to avoid the civil suit pay out.) We talked a little about his football years and he complained about how old he felt since.

He's a real nice guy when he's not killin' folk. I have his autograph on a staff pass worn by two stuffed dolls that hang from the ceiling by their necks. (It used to reside next to my Stephen King book collection)

This whole thing was for two websites, he was trying to promote (the now defunct) AskOJ.com and we were promoting (the also now defunct) Theirside.com. (We were negotiating with Ramseys at the time to really get it going)

Thats it though, I met the drummer of The Neville Brothers once...man was he hammered. (I also used to bump into a guy who played with Zappa and was a local celebrity in Atlanta... can't remember his name...I wanna say they called him The Admiral or The Captain..or something)

It's just another work day for Niv as I sit around listening to Tommy Heavenly6 songs and wonder why people are having so much trouble with Brownie Points. (unlike the last two rounds, I have only recieved one song so far)

I used to work in theatre so I got to meet a couple of famous people. The list includes Cynthia Nixon (from Sex in the City), Camryn Manheim (from The Practice), Gina Torres (from Firefly) and Tony Todd (The Motherfucking Candyman).

Pat Fish (The Jazz Butcher) but nobody seems to know who he is. At his concert we ordered beers and I got advice from him on covering one of his songs, which turned out to be pretty bad.

I have talked online and had things sent to me in the mail by Dave Coverly (the guy that draws the Speedbump comic) and Richard Bone (electronic & ambient musician). Also Mo Henry, who is a negative cutter for Hollywood movies.

Captain Beefheart? I don't like Zappa (at all) but Phil does (a lot)...

Nah, it wasn't Captain Beafheart. That I would remember. I'm pretty sure it was THE *some kind of notorioty*. Large man who dressed funny and played the guitar pretty well. Well enough to have been on a stage with Zappa. (as well as Santana & The Allman Bros - as a guest...not ever IN these bands)

I dont usually post here, I do read these threads tho (I guess its the voyeur in me). Tho actually I am interested in what you cats get up to.

I had to jump in today tho just to answer the QOTD. Really its just to do some name drop boasting, is all.

My favorite is hitching around the country to watch every gig of the band Alice Donut, during their Pure Acid Park tour. They are goods guys('n girl)
I slept in their van one night, due to being slack at finding a place to crash.
....Good times......

Having worked for years as an engineer in theatre and in studio I have met and/or worked with many famous people. Including some greats.
Ronnie Scott, Stan Tracy, Ben E. King, Maxi Priest, John Otway, Christie Moore, JazzieB, Wet,Wet,Wet, Half Pint, Keith from Heatwave (does anyone remember Sunn), Hazel O'Connor, The Wurzels..... so many more.....and all sorts of others like the English Shakespere Co. and the National Ballet and Opera, and comedians and and 10 million damn 4 yr olds, doing the same jumping up and down dance, from the ballet school that ran out of the theatre. I mean the same bloody thing every year. a hundred kids jumping.... the noise..... and I like loud rock music.... but a hundred excited 4 yr old girls... jumping
Ive also worked with some most excellent musos, like Bob Brozman, serious slide guitar. Kathryn Tickell, piper extraodinare Alan Price, Animals keys and awesome player. I ran lights for a Rick Wakeman gig once....man, he has huge hands.

Ive also blagged backstage at so many gigs.

Tho once when I was sitting outside a cafe, drinking a warm beverege. I looked up to see Sebastian Bach walking up the road. I said hi, and so did he, had a small chat. I love Skid Row. I was strangly excited, wierdest of all it happend during the afore mentioned Donut tour

I dont work professionally anymoe.... I gave it up a few years ago. I started seriously engineering/working at 15 and did it all the time and to the max. I guess I just burned myself out. Disillusionment with the industry, stress, my dislike of living in large cities, relationship stuff(fag), many things conspired against me. And, I think, I worked in a studio, just so I could be in a studio, and scrape time inbetween sessions, to work on my own things. Now I have one at home Im happy with, I dont need to be in someone elses. hehe.. Tho I also have to say I do enjoy producing. I dont do enough of that anymore (cept my own)

As for my day...SOS...and thats why I dont post in here. I try nowadays to keep my life as simple and easy as possible. Nothing to see here... move along...

Oh, I've never met anyone I consider famous, but the media would have the masses think so. I'm in the swimming pool biz, so I meet a lot of athletes. Quite a few as a matter of fact. But probably the biggest name, because of his home run streak, is Mark McGwire, I did his pool. Although I got along with him, he is a complete asshole. But the least famous, but the nicest guy in the world is Henry Ellard (football player). I designed his pool, but the general contractor built it. But he's in our poker group, so I take his money about every two months, lol. But he always gets me out to his house for free pool help, so he always manages to get his money back. Great guy though and a wonderful Family. He has the best BBQ's.

Met personally? Geez. Jason Mraz, Rodrigo y Gabriella, Sondre Lerche... I've met all of those after concerts. Then I've met some actors from Buffy and Lord of the Rings (yaaaay for being a geek) at various conventions. I met Justin Rose, the golfer, on a plane when I was like 8. My parents were all "Here, I'll take you up and you be all cute and say that you love golf and that you'd like his signature." "Dad, I hate golf." "Shh, just lie." I chatted with Barbara Walters when I went to The View. Oh, M.Night Shyamalan complimented my wrapping skillz and my voice/guitar playing skillz, and we chat about music when I see him in my local coffee shop. And then of course all the famous Songfighters at SFLs and whatnot

Today was, again, pretty boring. Though we're reading Pygmalion in Brit Lit, so I get to actually use my accent. We're changing our TV cable from Comcast to Verizon, so I just had a guy that looks just like Spud come and program the TV in my room.

There's gonna be a big storm tonight, and I just hope that there's gonna be good weather for prom on Friday night, but it's looking rainy and cold at the moment

Oh yeah, I forgot Bruce Boxleitner... I was with my sister at a sci-fi convention and we met some people in autograph line e.g. Nichelle Nichols, Uhura on Star Trek. But I don't really count that. However, while we were hanging out at the bar Bruce B. came down and ate and talked with us. He's pretty nice and reminded my sister too much of our dad

FYI if you don't know he was in Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Babylon 5, TRON, etc.

Buh, I don't know how to rank 'em, fame-wise, but I've only met a couple fameys. They are all great memories, though. Jello Biafra gave my pal Ed some shit for his Urge Overkill pendant. Henry Rollins was totally nerve wracking, both times. Shaking Danzig's hand while he was shopping for comics was fun. King Buzzo is probably my favorite, though, because I love the Melvins so damn much. That's happened a number of few times, and once featured Adam Jones of Tool on the sidelines (also: buying comics.)

OH! And Mike Watt! That was super sweet.

Hmm.

I think Mark Mallman trumps 'em all for satisfying conversation, even though he falls into more the "Local Legend" category than "Fame-Wad."

Man, what a cheerful batch of rememberances this past couple of minutes was! I can't wait to get home and rock!
