Have to go for jury duty today. This is the jury selection day, which is generally six or seven hours of "entertain yourself" and a couple hours of deciding who will actually be on the jury. Sure wish the new title was posted...

Figuring my entire day will pretty much be used up for that. Taking a book or two, mp3 player, and my "sleep on the plane" pillow thingie.

Roll Call!

It's been a hard day already for me and it's only gonna get rougher. One of our guinea pigs is badly sick and the girls spent a large part of the night awake and quite emotional. This morning, my mp3 player died. And this afternoon, I have to play receptionist. You can only imagine what it must be like playing reception at Immigration. Ugh. Not the way you wanna start a day.

Since Heather isn't here yet, I'll post up a question of the day. Here's a classic: Your first concert?

I didn't grow up with very open thinking parents so it took me quite a while before I got to go to a concert. But when I finally did, I started off very strong. My sister got me a pair of tickets to see PJ Harvey and Tricky play at the Academy in NYC. That show was phenomenal. I thought Tricky was the loudest, most bombastic thing ever. And PJ Harvey was riding the waves of success from "Down By The Water". It was a great show.

Workin'. No shows until the weekend, but I might drop in on an open mic or two over the next couple days.

First concert: Billy Idol at the Worcester Centrum. The following morning, he made a brief appearance on Good Morning America to talk about the embarassment he suffered during the encore. He had lowered his leather pants a bit to show off his pubic hair to the folks in the front row. This was, for some reason, well-received by the crowd. But then he couldn't get the pants back up, and had to half-hobble off stage to sort himself out.

There was also an opening band, some group I had never heard of called The Cult. They were, of course, the best part of the night.

I saw Thin Lizzy at the Newcastle International Sports Centre when I was about 11. I went with my brother. If I recall correctly - I think they were supported by the Ted Mulry Gang.

Around about the same time, I also got my parents to take me to see The Angels (supported by The Boomtown Rats, featuring a very young Sir Bob Geldof) at a free concert at Civic Park Newcastle. Icehouse were also playing - but in those days they were called The Flowers. Nowdays - nobody even knows who Icehouse is. That is a good thing. Several girls were raped in the park that day, and the copius amounts of drugs on display and outrageous drunkedness of Newcastle youth ensured that the Newcastle City Council never put on a free concert in Civic Park again. Well, at least not until 1997, when the Newcastle Knights won the Premiership and The Screaming Jets played in Civic Park and Andrew Johns sang with them. I went to school with the Screaming Jets. I know a bloke who used to live near Andrew Johns. I still carry a photo of him in my wallet. Andrew Johns that is - not the bloke who lived near him. Phil Lynott of This Lizzy is dead now. So is Ted Mulry. And Andrew Johns has retired. Weird, huh.

Lost a piece of my tooth yesterday - home to go spend some time in the dentists chair. Perhaps it will give me the opportunity for some additional Ein-ing, too.

First Show- Queen Los Angeles October 1982, last Regular tour performance in the US (they played Live aId after that). The opening act Was Billy Squier. It was one frickin' rockin night.

Good morning everyone! Thanks for starting the Roll Call this morning Charles! Sorry to hear you have jury duty. What a drag. I’ve only been called for jury duty once. I was not selected. I was not even interviewed. I’m glad I wasn’t selected though, because I was living in Simi Valley, CA at the time and would have had to drive to Ventura (a 40 min drive with no traffic) every day.

Last night I worked on my resume. There will be a new supervisor position posted here in the Registrar’s Office and I’m going for it! It’s about f’n time I move up in this place! My computer got a wormy virus a few years ago and had to be wiped clean. Phil tried to save what he could, but apparently my resume got lost. So I had to start from almost scratch. Phil found an old version, the one I used to get my previous job, but it was done in Microsoft Works and couldn’t be opened with Word. He opened it on WordPad and some of it is there, some of it is all scrambled. So, I’m working on skewing it heavily to highlight my managerial and leadership skills. Fun.

Today after work I’m going to get my hair cut. I’m glad because now that I have short hair again, it grows so fast and starts looking all scruffy. Also, it won’t stand up and be spikey past a certain length.

Great QotD Niv! I’m glad you came up with one, I couldn’t think of anything today.

My first concert was The Cure with opening bands the Sugarcubes and the Pixies at Dodger Stadium in LA. It was 1989 and The Cure was touring in support of the Disintegration album. It was the best show! We had horrible seats but that didn’t matter. The Cure was my favorite band and I was in heaven! I was 15 and it took a lot of coaxing to get my parents to bend and allow me to go. My mom knew that it was very important to me (She wouldn’t let me go to see Depeche Mode on the Music for the Masses tour at the Rose Bowl in ’87) so she talked my dad into it. She drove me and my friends there. I’ll never forget the look on her face when she saw all of the Cure fans (and their wonderful outfits!) walking through the parking lot before the show! I’m surprised she didn’t change her mind last minute! I bought a t-shirt and proudly sported it at school. This was before being “alternative” was cool, so I got a lot of shit from the “populars” for the way I dressed.

My second concert was Peter Murphy (of Bauhaus fame) at the Universal Amphitheater. Again, the Goths almost made my mom turn the car around!

That is just plain disturbing. Come on Niveous, own up - you are actually Iva Davies, aren't you! Or perhaps his mother. Nobody else could possibley have any reason to recall and regurgitate something like that

Heh, I remembered them having some hit in the 80's but Niv remembers more than me.

My first concert I don't remember, but I'm sure it was some sort of orchestral thing, perhaps a 4th of July or whatnot. But maybe that's not the question you were asking. First rock or pop concert? Wow, I don't remember that either but I'll consider.

Hi all. I just got back from having my pick'em up truck inspected. 90 seconds to inspect, 90 minutes in the garage with the owner going on about his trips to the Philipines. Actually quite entertaining.

I was called to jury selection at a court house which had been bombed at one time in the 70's. (The court is still there, an old colonial building in Newburyport, Mass. For a long time the outside wall was held up with huge wooden beams) I was approved by the prosecution, but not the defense. It was a murder trial and the judge asked: " do you have objections to hearing about homosexual activity, and a dismembered penis being crammed down the victims throat?" (I'm paraphrasing here) I said no, I didn't, and envisioned a circus of a trial. Never found out what happened either, as this happened right before I shipped out to Germany in my 'ol army days.

My first concert was the Joe Perry Project (of Aerosmith fame) in Lowell, Mass. James Montgomery Band and the Fools (great live band!) opened. This was 1981 I believe. Years earlier, my mom denied my seeing Kiss during the Love Gun tour, as I would have gone with "that kid who used to write swear words in the street with chalk". He was a punk, but man I was bummed!
Bringin' the stink since 2006.

Unfortunately, I cannot remember my first concert. My family was visiting Nashville in July of 1975 (I was four) and we caught George Morgan (father of Lorrie Morgan). I am not sure if it was a full concert or a Grand Ole Opry type show, but he died two days later. The first one I do remember was nearly ten years later (around 1983 or 1984) when we saw Tennessee Ernie Ford at Knott's Berry Farm. That was great getting to see him sing "Sixteen Tons" in person.

The first concert I actually bought tickets for was Harry Connick, Jr. in 1992. That would have been May 2 at the Universal Amphitheater, but the LA riots broke out on April 29 and the show was postponed until September 12. That ended up being a fun one. The show was the day after his birthday and was added onto the end of the tour so it was the last show that particular group was playing together.

Nothing much of note is going on for me today. It will mostly be working and attempting to Nur Ein.

The LA riots messed up my senior prom! Since the trial was taking place in Simi Valley where I was a senior in High School, they didn't want to send us off to the Universal Hilton during such a tumultuous (and Simi Valley hating) time. Our prom was postponed until late May/early June, so it turned out to be more of a graduation party.

But it ruin the prom shag? You know the prom shag. Like in all the movies and the tv shows. Prom night includes a shag. Right? (I didn't go to prom. Me & the wife went out and played pool instead)

My prom night shag was less than sensational. In retrospect, I wish I had gone anywhere or done anything else than go to prom with the guy I went with... he turned out to be my boyfriend through college, up until I met Phil. He was a total asshole!

No one ever said that the prom night shag had to be good. Half of those movies with the classic prom night shag end in some kind of mishap. Example- David and Donna. Donna gets drunk. No shag. Donna can't graduate. Protest marches ensue. Ah, the classics.

i went to see the Japanese metal band Loudness.

They were opening for some band called "AC/DC". I was 14, and didn't even know who AC/DC was! Loudness was hilariously awesome. I loved it.

I have a history of going to shows to see opening bands... I remember the hipcola and I went to see the Northern Pikes (I think he went) and we left when they were done.

The were opening for Glass Tiger. Ugh.

Today I am wearing shorts.

Another day in pair of dice
Where the degrees are hot,
And the girls are thrice
Finally finished mad paper work
It's been building up
Had to finish before I start a new song
Can't walk and chew gum at the same time
I was born with one byte of ram
And an Atari pong brain
But I can play the git tar like a small public disruption
I need to focus on round three
By a miracle, I made it this far
I owe it to the miracle to do my best
I have a girl as my guest vox
I have never had a girl sing with me
Not by choice, just never happened
Should be fun

QOTD:
Kiss at Anaheim Stadium with Montrose opening
Kiss was an incredible show
But I'm still a Sammy fan to this day
Sure, David Lee was better in VH for most
But Sammy rocked Montrose and his own stuff
I still go to the Cabo Wabo every time we go to Mexico
Him and his band, the Wabos, rehearse their new stuff there
I've seen either Los Tres Gusanos, or the Wabo's everytime I've been there
Micheal Anthony on bass and David Lauser on drums with both bands
Although they tour with some chick on bass and she's really good
Live, Love, Rock
Chris
