Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! Last night was a night for me to catch up with old friends. I logged into my personal (not the Hell Yeahs) MySpace for the first time in a long time and had a few messages waiting for me.

One was from Tim, an old friend of a friend who came to a lot of our shows when we were Vlad Smut and the Swanks. One was from Len, the drummer of the Swanks. I wrote back to both of them and sent a message to Todd, our really good friend in LA who just found out his wife is pregnant. Then I found out that my old high school friend (and first girl crush) Kristi had her baby, a cute little peanut named Zack. After writing back to Len on MySpace he then added me as a contact in MSN, so we chatted for awhile until he must have lost his connection and disappeared.

It was great fun, but I stayed up too late. I took the bus to work so I had to get up super early. I’m eating my bagel with veggie cream cheese. Queens of the Stone Age, Tom Waits and the Reverend Horton Heat kept coming up in my shuffle this morning. Maybe the kids will go to the grandparent’s this weekend? I will hassle Phil to call his mom today.

QotD - and I hope it’s not too boring! ;)

What is your first childhood memory? How old were you?

I have a vague first memory of sitting on the front steps of our house on N 39th St. in Seattle with my mom, looking at a ladybug. She had long hippie hair (it was the late 70’s) and I was wearing a red dress. I must have been 3 ½ or so.

I have a very strong memory of sitting at the table at my mother’s friend Jeri’s house, eating breakfast. I told Jeri that I didn’t want to eat my eggs, but she said I had to. She held my mouth open, scooped it up on the fork and jammed it down my throat. I felt the fork hit the back of my throat. It was a really runny egg. I cried.

To this day I will not eat eggs of any kind, or eggplant and it took me until just a few years ago to try egg rolls. I must have again been about 3 ½ because I came to find out years later that the reason I was at Jeri’s house is because she was watching me while my mom was in the hospital giving birth to my sister.

Since my son is now 4 ½ he’s probably already stored away his first memory. I wonder what it is and I hope it’s good and not scaring or bad.

Yeah, I wouldn't eat eggs until I was in my early 20's. Apparently, my mom used to feed them to me so much so that I wouldn't eat anymore. I grew up hating them, and will not ever eat a runny, wet yolky, hard bolied or pickled egg. Scrambled or in omelet form only, please.

I swear that I remember sitting in a high-chair, with the tray in front of me, looking from one room onto the other at a clock on the wall. Maybe this was the day I told my mom no more eggs? I dunno, but how old are you when in a high-chair? I reckon either something good or bad happened to make what must have been a regular occurance stick out.

Not to kiss ass here, but I was up late listening to the Spy vs. Pie podcast last night and was laughing like a fool. I did miss the end as all of a sudden I was just wiped out. That's some good stuff and Phil sounded as baked as I was earlier in the day. Oops!

Have a happy Friday, peoples!

I can't tell you which was my FIRST...but I have a couple of vague memories from when, I must have been 2 or 3. Very Vague though. I know that we moved out of the trailor (yes, TRAILOR) in Perrysburg, Ohio to Toledo when I turned 4.

I remember red carpet, it was early in the morning and my dad had just left for work. Aerosmith's Dream On was playing on the radio. (Top 10 hit in '76 which puts me at 3)

I remember a flood at the same trailor park and the water being up to my waist while me and the neighbor girl played in the street.

I remember freaking out in bed one night because I thought someone was in my room.

I would frequently wake up because I felt a 'poke' in the ribs, leg, or arms but mostly the back of my neck.... NOW, I know what that is. I actually get these little spams (technically they are seizures) in my neck sometimes it's lower down in my back and larger 'hicupps' if you will occur in my rib areas.

-----------------

It's Friday, I have to work 9-5 twice ... but after I get off of work at 5am tomorrow morning, I have the rest of the weekend off!

I doubt he was baked at the point when the show was recorded because he's at home with the kids, but he may have caught up with you later on! The sound you were hearing was absolute tired.

I'm glad you decided to check out the popcast. As I'm sure you know, there's a shit load of shows in the archive with just as many laughs. There's even one where the infamous Johnny Cashpoint (j$) was on. And, if you want to brush up on your Spy vs. Pie knowledge, check out the wikipeedis.

Yeah, I love my husband!

QotD: my earliest memory is from when I was probably about four or five. One of these door-to-door religions had come around with a children's book of Bible stories they were giving away. Well, the first children's Bible story in the book was about Noah and the ark, and how God had destroyed the world with water: but next time (ie: any day now) God was going to destroy the world with fire and there would be no escape from that one. Needless to say, this made a big impression on me at the time, and a rather lasting one, as well. While I'm pretty active in "church stuff" and have this whole other Christian / worship song thing that I do, I also have these really strong feelings of how wrong it is to push said religion (or religiously inspired rules) on others. A liberal for life, thanks to Baby's First Book of A Wrathful God.

Continuing with vacation prep today; I kinda let myself get distracted yesterday and did a few more G&G demos of some songs from our new songbook at church. I woke up this morning with the blue signal coming in loud and clear, really, I dunno, disappointed in my inability to "deal with" almost anything that needs dealing with. Maybe I should be digging out Niveous' Broken Monster lyrics and working on a couple songs from that again... when we get back from our trip.

mornin'.

My first childhood memory is crawling on my back lawn with my cat, Chad. I also remember sitting on Santa's lap and asking for Battleship.

I got Battleship.

I was so excited.

I don't remember which memory came first.

There was the one where I was no a blanket in the front yard and couple douchy neighbors were over. Then there was the one where I pulled a clock onto my nose and started crying.

Actually, I don't know if my neighbors were douchy or not. I just don't think I've ever had cool neighbors. :?

I swear I can remember my parent's wedding, but this may be post-hypnotic suggestion or sump.

Other things might be learning myself how to read Max books at 2 yrs old.

Learning to tie my shoes on my dad's mom's burgundy couch.

Legos and oreos at my mom's mom's.

fonzie.

winter, in the car, mom crying, something?

black sabbath's sabotage.

taking a puff off of grandma's cig.

mom's cooking steak and my weiner stings.

the blue vacuum.

playing on my dad's drummer's kit, and knowing it was cool.

making motorhead's stage setup out of blocks.

Kiss.

That queen record with the big robot guy. (scary!)

This is all from the pre-brother haze. Hard to pin down when they're from, but all pre-4 I reckon.

Actually, the first popcast I heard was the one with J$. I remember him sharing a fondness for diet Coke with some other guest. Can't remember who though.

Charles, heavy impact story and nice approach to pushing religion.

Fodroy, I keep replaying the clock hitting you in the face, not because I'm mean, but I turn it into you pulling a clock out of your nose. See? That's better.

i.p. - The permanent 12 year old in me is trying not to snicker a little. Don't be mad, just feel a little sorry for me and move on.

Phil, the winter car sounds like the start to a song or story. Nice imagery in all of those.

Hoblit, those may be zombie related pains ala your album cover. Yeah, someone was in your room - a frickin' zombie, man!

Hmmm... no idea who that could have been...

Anyway, since you've admitted to being a Spy vs. Pie popcast listener, you've been added to the Known Listeners list on the wikipeedis.

Just curious, do you listen often or just once in a while?

I listen to them more than once in a while, but not daily. There are more that I've not heard than have, but I may catch up. That's some entertaining stuff, and I relate it to some of the magic I miss in radio, like mentioned here in earlier posts. Good job all, and for those at home, check it out!

Johnny, could you please post an mp3 of that. I'm having real trouble visualising (no, ...auralising?) what that would sound like with your accent.

Can't pinpoint an actual first memory, but I know my conciousness seems to kick in somewhere around age 3. I don't remember the moon landing (when I was 2 1/2), but I do remember being excited about seeing my first commemorative 50c piece featuring a picture of Captain Cook (sometime in 1970), issued to celebrate the bicentenary of the Endevour voyage of 1770. We also moved house in late 1969 - I don't recall that.

Scary - my daugther turns 3 next week (which means so does Caravan Ray) - she will be at the stage now where her earliest memories will be forming. Caravan Ray on the other hand remembers nothing, and regrets less.

I am about to fly to Newcastle this morning to attend a black-tie reunion dinner for my old footy club (go the Hawks!). A whole weekend of male bonding and irresponsible alcohol consumption! What fun!!

My first memories that I can place are from when I was 3 and we went to Florida - I remember Disneyland (or is it world) - the Dumbo ride was great fun, you could push the button and go up or the other button and go down! - and 20k Leagues Under the Sea, which was terrifying but my sister loved it. I also remember the alligator farm which I loved, you could feed the alligators.

QotD: My earliest memories are of singing and dancing in preschool. We had a great music teacher. I was always really interested in music and I think Mrs. Sporleder (or however you spell her name) was a big part of that, though my dad was also instrumental in that (no pun intended but dangit I have to point it out now) since I also remember him playing the piano and wanting to learn how, and I'm pretty sure that was about the same time.

Roll call: today I finally revisited an annoying bug at work that I'd reassigned to a coworker while I tried to work on something more important. I'd finished the more important thing and so went back to the less important (but strangely more visible) thing, and fixed it in about an hour. Which is how long it would have taken to begin with if I weren't constantly being pulled in lots of different directions. Now I have nothing pressing to work on and I'm bored at work again.

HaHa, me too. I'm not a regular listener, but I've been catching the show whenever I can. Last night was Hell'Hairy'Ass! The bubble gum flavor soap, your skin would smell like bubble gum all day, then Phil says, damn, you could pretty much get any job you want...or something to that effect. I had tears. I think my first show I listened to was one where Phil was alone and going on about cheese sandwhiches, lol.
Great show guys, check it out if you haven't yet.

Anyway, My first memory was of my Mom grabbing my Tom and Jerry guitar and breaking it over my Dad's head. I'm sure glad I don't have my Moms temper. I loved that guitar. It had a crank on it that played the theme song to Tom and Jerry, my favorite cartoon as a kid.

I've listened to the Spy vs. Pie podcast and secretly dream of the day, I get a call to talk about random things like GI Joe, like that episode where Cobra wants to get the secret outta Shipwreck so they make him believe that he's in the future and the war is over. And they use these strange clones of all the Joes but sometimes the clones would melt and Shipwreck would freak out. Good times.

...and now I am sitting in the Qantas Club lounge at Brissy Airport with my flight having been delayed for 2 hours - and no guarentee it will ever actually leave.

It seems Newcastle has been hit by a mega cyclone-style storm and the whole Hunter Valley has been declared a 'State of Emergency' (damn - why isn't that this weeks Nur Ein title!). May as well just put my dinner suit on, hook into the free alcohol and wait for the rain to stop...
