Good morning everyone! I took the bus today so I was up at 4:45 am. Yawn. My bus ride was uneventful, but Nick Cave and the Badseeds was being favored by my shuffle this morning. That was nice.

Today all of the managers and supervisors are out of the office at a conference. Who do they defer all of the problems to while they're gone? Me, that's who. See, I should totally get the job, I'm already doing it!

I found out yesterday that my sister is having a girl. She's due in November. That's pretty cool. My family is having a baby shower for her in August, but she lives in Sacramento, so I dont' know if I'll be able to go. I really want to, but we're broke and won't be able to afford the plane ticket. I'm hoping to be able to guilt my parents into helping me out.

QotD: (I don't think we've done this one yet).

Are you named after anyone?

I'm not named after anyone in particular. My mom's side of the family is Scottish and Irish and my dad's is side is Swedish and Norwegian. My name came from the Scottish side (Heather was the most Scottish they could think of??) and my sister Gretchen is named for the Norse side.

My dad wanted to name me Carmen. He saw the name written in sidewalk cement and thought it was great. I'm glad my mom had a say in the matter!

It wasn't easy growing up a Heather. My maiden name (Anderson) is very common too and there were three Heather Andersons in my Jr. High.

How about you?

The guy who did our yard work went above and beyond the call of duty yesterday, pulling out a few troublesome rocks from the yard and the dirt driveway at no extra charge. Now there's a few big dirt patches in the yard with grass seed on 'em, and we're getting some rain today. Perfect.

It's a work day. Tonight I might stop down at The Lucky Dog and see when they want to start up the Wednesday Open Mics again.

QotD: I think my middle name (Arthur) is a tip of the hat to my great-grandfather.

My dad's name was also Charles, with a different middle name, (mine's Ian) but I believe my mom would insist that I was named after her grandfather, rather than my dad.

Done with my music room re-arrange, it's time to punish, er, finish my Steve Durand cover from the wishlists of last year. He'll be wishing, alright.

My daughter, Harriet was named after H G Nelson. She was given the middle name "Grace", specifically so she would have the initials H.G. We also used to have an alpaca named Roy.

I'm finally feeling better after a really tough night. The girls were so worried that they thought I may have had a problem with my appendix. But today, I'm back in action. And it looks like tonight I'll have a chance to do a new edition of the Other Night I Dreamt of Knives. :)

QotD: Yes. I'm named after my dad. I'm a junior and it's a bitch being so. See, my dad isn't the best person in the world and once decided that it was okay to use my name to get a credit card. That screwed me over big time. Is it any wonder I go by the name Niveous Devilchild?

Hump day and everything at work is going ok. Look forward to our show (Ghost Town Gridlock) on Friday and we have practice after work. It's a beautiful day in Tampa, all nice and sun shiney and stuff.

qotd:

There were no other Chris Hoblit's in my middle or highschool. In fact, I was the only Chris Hoblit in the entire state. I'm still not sure why my first name is Chris. I've asked, but my folks never really say..it's vague, they had a friend who's name was Kris and perhaps they named me after her. My middle name is Michael..thats my father. Hoblit is short for Hoblitzel - a name carried over from the old country and shortened after first generation of immigrants. (Name is German but of Lebanese decent)

I named my little girl Amberlynn Dawn. Golden morning. Before I get a bunch of questions about this: It was a long time ago in another life and it's been too many years since I've seen her.

Back from vacation, eight or nine days of driving around Colorado (the Mrs. is the "outdoor" person in our house, I am mostly happy to be back on carpet again, although I am pleased to have a whole bunch of new outdoorsy photos to play around with).

QotD: first name, named after my dad, middle named after his best friend (my middle name really is "Art", that's where KA comes from). Middle brother (I'm the oldest of three) was given the name my dad wished he had growing up. My youngest brother was born in October 1957, and somewhere there is a list of names that were being considered for him, and "Sputnik" made the final ten or so... fortunately, not the nur ein of names. I've written down the dozen or so QotDs I missed and maybe later today I'll catch up...

Today is mostly unpacking from vacation, cleaning house, etc.

Charles (Art is my middle name!)

There was (is?) another Jim Tyrrell in this area, and my dad freaked out once when he heard over the scanner that Jim Tyrrell was being rushed to the hospital with a burst appendix or something. Wasn't me; I've still got my appendix.

I wish I could take a month off of work to draw comics.

I should mention that my cousin is a Star Wars nut. (Me too I guess) He named his little girl Leah.

Pronounced LEEEYAA ..but only because his wife wouldn't allow it to be pronounced LAAAYAA.

I should mention that I may love the TV show Roswell but the fact that my son is named Maxwell Evan like the main character is a coincedence. T named M and picked Maxwell. We had already picked Evan so we ended up with the name of the main character of Roswell- Maxwell Evans.

I would also like to thank BLT for that Google mp3 trick. That worked wonders for me today.

I'm also ecstatic to find out the Ginger of the Halo Friendlies is now the new bassist for the Smashing Pumpkins, keeping the streak of hot Smashing Pumpkins bassists intact.

This is not a fun day. Not other comment.

QotD: I am named after an author whose books my dad illustrated, Roy Moger (sp?). Dr. Allen (middle name) was someone who apparently saved my dad's life as a young boy. I am of northern european descent, so my last name is my dad's.

man, I may be from Idaho, but I've never owned an alpaca. I hope whenever someone wants to crack a farmer joke they go to egg or caravan tex beauray. HICKS.

I was going to be named Jared. My family had moved from Barstow, California (go Trojans) to Glenns Ferry, Idaho (go Pilots) a few years after my sister was born; my brother was two years older than her, and five or six-year-old Michael Kellis's best friends in Glenns Ferry were named Marcus and Jonathan. My mom became pregnant once again and moved to Meridian, Idaho (go Warriors). One morning, my brother awoke my parents, telling them God had come to him in a dream and that they were to name the baby Marcus Jonathan. Coincidentally, I'm sure.

So I was named by God, or so I'm told, maybe drawing inspiration from two childhood friends of my brother.

I also had a pig named Gary, though his full name was Burpin' Gary because we bought him from a pig farmer in the town of Burpengary. Most of my male animals though have been named after rugby league football players, such as Alfie the alpaca and my dog, The Chief.

I think I have explained this elsewhere, but our alpaca farm was named "Cavanreagh", after the name of the farm that my wife's father grew up on in Northern Ireland. That name was bastardised to form Caravan Ray - which I thought sounded a bit like 'Buffalo Tom' or 'Boxcar Willie'. I had 2 cats when I lived in Kiribati, named Sid and Tex - named after Sid Vicious and Tex Perkins. Tex Beaumont is named after Tex the cat, combined with the name of the street I grew up on (ie. my porn star name)

But moving on to the weather - it was freaking freezing here yesterday. A bloke at work reckoned that 20 June was the coldest winter's day in Brisbane for over 90 years. Reached a maximum of 13 deg C (~55 deg F) in the middle of the day! I couldn't go out to get my lunch, because I didn't have a jumper. Not happy.

Happy to help. A good friend taught me that. I've always had very good luck with it.

To all interested. Just copy and past this line of text in the Google search box. Just change the last part, "nine inch nails" to the band that you are looking for.
