Hi everyone. I'm g4meboy and new to songfight (obviously). I'm an aspiring nerdcore rapper. Found out about this site by reading an MC Frontalot bio.
More than likely I will get bashed and suck, but I am proud of what I do and won't make excuses. I do what I love.
All I ask is that you don't lynch me at one point or another.

And I do always love me some sarcasm. So thanks. But hey, at least that means you're probably going to listen to see if your assumption was right or not, so I must've done something rightSven wrote:oh wow i bet this guy is really really good
@Jolly Roger: Sorry, since I'm new, I don't really know much about you all. You a nerdcore fan or was that sarcasm too?

I agree with that one hundred percent. There are a lot of shitty nerdcore artists out there that don't put much effort into it because they think nerdcore is small, so anything will be good.Smalltown Mike wrote:The problem with nerdcore, in my opinion, is that the stuff we hear on SF is just bad rap. Frontalot writes great tunes, has great delivery, regardless of what style he's rapping in.
But most of the stuff nerdcore we hear at SF is canned beats, cheeseball rhymes, poor delivery that lacks emotion or style, you hear microphone pops because they don't know how close to stand, and on and on.
Whenever I hear one of these tunes, I instantly think: "This person can't really like this type of music. If this person truly likes rap, they can't think this is good."
I think it's often an excuse. "I can't make a great rap tune, I'm not quite there yet as far as developing a style, so if I call it nerdcore it won't have to be good."
By all means, rap about video games and programming if you want. But you still need a bit of talent to make it listenable. And for the love of all that is good, DON'T BE AFRAID TO SHOW EMOTION IN YOUR SONG.
My music taste isn't only nerdcore. Before nerdcore I was a horrorcore fan (let the flaming begin), and before that I was an "oldskool" hip-hop fan.
I chose nerdcore as my genre of choice because I enjoy it. I am a nerd. I play Magic: The Gathering, play videogames, and research technology and politics. I've never been into sports. I've always been a nerdy kid, so it's what I can relate too.
I write lyrics based on nerd subjects because it's what I can best talk about. Why write rapping about "shootin dem bitches" or whatever if I'm an upper middle class white kid? I don't want to be fake. I write about who I am and what I do. I want to make people laugh without doing stupid elementary school jokes. I've been doing improv for five years and stand up for one. I don't just write out of my ass, though I do admit my rhyming can be pretty elementary. I admit, my delivery isn't as good as it could be, but that's because I just haven't been doing it long enough / had enough practice.
I didn't come onto songfight to preach the gospel of nerdcore. I came here to get feedback on my work and improve so I can be a respected artist. Nerdcore or not, as far as I'm concerned this site is for musicians. It's about the music and not the genre. I liked that. I won't get a bias opinion. People won't say "you're nerdcore, so I'm going to vote for you." They'll say "I liked that song, I'm going to vote for you," and visa versa.
I'm sorry for writing such a long reply, I just want to you know I'm not hear to half-ass my efforts and undermine your guys' seriousness on this. I take this just as serious as you and I appreciate and respect your work just as much as anyone elses.
EDIT: And I will admit, when I started, I did half ass it. I took the music from Dr. Mario on the NES and put the first nerdy words I could think of ontop of it in some sort of rhythm. I go back to it, and it sucked. Then there was an issue between my school and my music, which I sent to nerdcore artist MC Lars and he told me to keep working at it and he wanted me to improve. Honestly I never took it seriously until then. Hearing a professional in the field actually take the time to listen to my stuff, read what I had to say and comment back, made me want to live up to his expectations. I want to improve and I want to grow. I've come here so you guys can help with that. I value every opinion. I want to make this good music, not good nerdcore music. I specifially said, I will not make excuses for myself. If my delivery sucks, my delivery sucks. If my production quality is terrible, my production quality is terrible. If I can't write a song to save my life, I can't write a song. I will take what you have to say and work on it. I won't say "oh, well I'm nerdcore, so that's fine." That's bullshite and unacceptable. Those people do deserve to get a bad reputation, and there's obviously been a large amount doing that here, so I don't blame you for hating nerdcore.
