My 8 yo son started eating ham sandwiches on toast with mayo. This is a breakthrough, since he is gluten free and bread products are the most challenging part of his diet. The combination of the right bread, toasted just right, then combined with either honey in the morning, or now sandwich meats is an ongoing adventure. For now, he eats a good lunch.

I like my sandwiches soft, but I love a good piece of peanut butter toast!

Oh my goodness, have you ever had a PB&J that's been in a Snackmaster? Oh so tasty.

DUDE! I love'em too. I make it like a grilled cheese, but with peanut butter and strawberry preserves, or just peanut butter and bananas.

Toast to all! Image

You and Glenn Case could totally be my brothers.

Yeah, its like a grilled cheese but with Peanutbutter & Jelly...I use raspberry preserves. Lots of butter on a soft bread with slightly less pb&j than you would normally put on it. (or else you'll get pb&J goo oozing out the sides)

AND YES, I've done it with pb& bananas too. Higher heat though, otherwise the bananas can get mushy...

Well I've suspected this all along, but I think it's safe to officially say: nobody doesn't like toast.

Toast is awesome. I, too, like pb+j on toast. None of that vegemite shite though. What *is* vegemite, anyway?

Toast with a teeny bit of butter and a pretty decent amount of Marmite is the best breakfast ever. Plus, my cat loves Marmite too, so I give her the crusts and she gets a tasty snack. WIN-WIN FOR ALL.

I'm taking a jar of Marmite to college with me. It'll be great.

Well, thanks to wiki, I know what vegemite is now. And I kind of wish I didn't.

"Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste may be described as salty, slightly bitter, and malty - somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon. The texture is smooth and sticky, much like peanut butter. It is not as intensely flavoured as Marmite and it is less sweet than the New Zealand version of Marmite."

Remember back in the good old days, when, after filtering the dead yeast out of the beer, we just threw it away?

Hey, I thought escargot was a disgusting concept until I ate some.

Now I'm curious about vegemite and marmite.

Toast is literally the greatest thing since sliced bread. I haven't eaten a piece of bread (even in a sandwich) in months, but I have toast almost daily.

I've had Vegemite and I like it. It tastes like beef bouillon to me, like a real savory taste but not as salty. I became very interested after I heard it mentioned in the Men at Work song, Down Under. Still love that song! I asked a now "old" Aussie friend about it, and he opened his cupboard, pulled out a jar, showed it to me, then made us some tea and toast with Vegemite. I was surprised at how little he scooped out on the knife. I didn't think I'd even taste it, but he assured me it was plenty and I'd taste it just fine, and I did taste it just fine! It's very concentrated and very flavorful.

mmmmmmmm...... leftover brewers' yeast extract

Well - the one good thing about emigrating to New Zealand is it is probably the only foreign country on earth that has Vegemite in the shops. I eat it occasionally - but as mentioned earlier, it is almost all my daughter will eat. She has a Vegemite sandwich every day for lunch. Sadly, her other staple food from Aus - spaghetti made in the shape of Wiggles characters is not available here. The kiwis are far too serious a race to tolerate frivolously-shaped tinned pasta products.
