Glenn, will you play bass/guitar for us in the event that Elvis declines to travel?

Well, I will do my best to talk him into it. I would love to have the full band, but thanks for agreeing to stand in if necessary. If it comes to that, I will send you a set list.

If I had a keyboardist and a bass player I could go to SF for a night or so.

I don't even know where to start here, since most of you don't know me that well (at all, that is). Clearly, I'd be much better off if I had a band, but I could do a lot of programming on my drum machine if need be. At the very least, I'd need a bass player to pull that off. I could do a g+g set, but the kind of music that I write doesn't always translate well, so I think I'd like to avoid that if I can. I guess I'm looking to those of you who have done this a few times to give me some advice here...

On the other side of the coin, I am more than willing to play in other bands. I have been playing guitar for the better part of two decades, but I lack natural musical talent. That means that if you intend to plan out a set well in advance such that I can learn the songs beforehand, I can deliver the goods. If you're looking for someone to improvise and jam out on the spot - I'm probably not your guy. (I'm also more of a rhythm than a lead player.) Although I'm most comfortable with guitar, I also play bass and mandolin.

Um...so, yeah. There you have it. :?

Drum machine's okay, we never got booed off the stage for playing to 4 measure loops, heh. But get a foot pedal to start & stop that bad boy. Doing the hand jive's always awkward.

Idea for one-man-banding it (not that you'll want to, this is a great crew to share the stage with, lots of good pickup musicians): drum machine w/foot pedal; electric guitar w/ABY pedal to run the signal to both the guitar amp and the bass amp simultaneously; microphone.

Remember, on stage, everyone can hear you scream.

I will play drums for you Mr. Guy

I will play drums for anyone

I will also play guitar or keyboard or do terrible backing vocals for anyone as long as it's not too hard

Also if you need someone to stand around looking awkward I AM THERE FOR YOU

on that note I will probably NOT do the loop pedal thing this time and either I will do an all acoustic set or I will need people to pick up things on stage and maybe throw them at the audience (by "things" I mean "instruments" and by "throw" I mean "play")

You're hired.

I'm willing to return the favor and throw things at the audience for you. Figuratively or literally...your choice.

Can you do this and play drums at the same time? I'm hoping somebody on stage will look awkward enough that I appear suave and confident by comparison. It might be a stretch. :)

I need some accompaniment (bass, guitar, drums) for the following songs:

Race to Seven
Rhymes with Lucia (also required: backing vox and/or whistling)
Elegy for Industry (may also require up to three backup vocalists)
...And it would be awesome if I could somehow pull together my Violet Wants it Her Way, but it may be prohibitively grandiose.
...and of course, I'll need everyone belting along for the last chorus of my Back from Juvie! :)

Anything else I want to play can be done solo, and thus added or cut last minute as necessary.

Conversely, for anyone who needs assistance, I'll be more than willing to provide keys and other incidental instrumentation. My primary instrument is the piano, but I can play just about anything. For instance, I've already been recruited to play mandolin on someone else's song. :)

P.S.
I can put Nur Ein songs on my setlist, right?

IMO, it's best to just have a single lineup through the whole set, with "guest appearances" on certain songs. Having an entire roster change on every song really eats into your set, and also makes the logistics of practicing much more difficult.

Would you like to do keyboards for my set, by the way? Right now my lineup looks like:

- Inevitableguy doing something guitar-related (I'm not sure what yet)
- ??? doing drums
- ??? doing bass

but having keyboard would be neat too since most of my songs would benefit from that.

Absolutely! Just give me a list of songs to learn as soon as you can, and I'll be on it!

ALSO: Glenn - Is there/will there be a piano at the venue, or are we just doing keyboards? The answer will affect how I practice.

I would like to recruit (at least) ten people to sing in the John Benjamin Choral Society, to see if we can pull off a semi-acapella version of my song "The Blitz" from last year's Nur Ein, and choir-supported versions of "What We Need More Of Is Science" and "Freaky Feelin'". You must be able to carry a tune, but you don't necessarily need to be an official songfighter (so like, girlfriends, boyfriends, children are all invited).

Post here or PM me if you are interested. I'll reach out as well via PM in case people aren't watching the boards.

I still need a guitarist for three (or four) songs, "Elegy for Industry," "Rhymes with Lucia," and "Race to Seven."

"Elegy for Industry" and "Rhymes with Lucia" are very simple rhythm patterns, mostly open chords (after all, they were written and originally performed by ME), and "Race to Seven" has a rhythm part and a solo; pick your poison, and I'll take the other.

I'd still like to do "Violet Wants it Her Way," whose guitar part is a little harder, but for that I also need at least three other singers, and if I don't get volunteers in the next week or so, I'm just going to cut it from my setlist and prepare something else.

I am available to sing back up harmonies for anyone, but I just need about a week to learn your songs.
So if anyone needs back-up vox, please send me links and lyrics to your songs. I am also happy to participate as a tambo-shaker-hand clapping fool.

So, none other than the very host of this event wrote me to say, among other things:
Glenn wrote: You had BETTER play "Violet Wants It Her Way". Will definitely sing, and would gladly play bass or guitar.
Due to lack of volunteers, I was a hair's breadth from cutting "Violet" out of my setlist. I can get creative in terms of arrangement so I don't need Sven's shredding skills, but I absolutely cannot do this without at least two more volunteers to sing - who can sing on-key.

C'mon, people, step up! If not for me, then do it for Glenn! I can provide lyrics and tablature. I suppose, if you're really desperate, I can even provide full sheet music.

I was intending to play drums as if it were Frankie's cover. Is that wrong-headed? I really like Frankie's cover.
