Hmm, well, I'd certainly want to give JB first shot at being Covermaster, and I want to be in and have one of my own songs covered (if that disqualifies one from being CM), but we'll see where it goes. As I tried to explain, we can host the songs at SF as long as they're covers of a SF song, not an outside project song. Assuming I remember the password for uploading these things :-)

Some more ideas:

- have the coverer write all new music for the original artist's lyrics

- having one coverer create the music track and then passing it on to the next person to add the vocals

But I'm with Jon on this, it's been so long since we did an OF coverfight that I don't know we need a lot of new twists. I think the most important thing is making sure that everyone who participates gets to hear one of their own songs done by somebody else.

You're overcomplicating it.

Don't add rules to an OF. Just let people do what they want to do in order to make the songs their own.

JB was always Covermaster before (he even had coverfight.com registered for a while, if I recall correctly), and he never excluded himself from the fight, so if you wanted to shuffle the names about and still participate, I doubt anyone would mind.

Sounds like there's some enthusiasm here. Do we maybe want to have a signup period starting now, with coverers and coverees to be assigned on Sept. 24 (the due date for the Cure fight)?

I had a new idea for another coverfight. G&NG - take a song in which the original's main instrumentation is acoustic guitar, and record a cover without using acoustic guitar. Is that interesting?

Could be fun. I like going the other way, too, like my cover of Toxic (although I guess that technically does have acoustic guitar in it, but it's not the thrust of the arrangement).

Yeah, i guess if we want to support people that only have acoustics it could be either direction.

If we're talking mutual-songfighter-covering (a'la Original Flava), I'm in. If we're talking non-songfight theme covers (Neil Diamond Mine or whatever), no thanks.

I would love to do this "original flava" of which you speak.

I am less interested in wacky variations / restrictions on an already solid theme.

("Original must have been played on a sousaphone, but cover must not use sousaphone...." Fie, I say!)

we did just do an original flava, and the whole idea of my posting was to propose a variation. so, uh, i guess your answer is no then? my idea could be applied to o.f. tho.

I'm personally not a fan of the non-OF variations, in general. Although "Covermaster's Choice" seems fun, but that requires a LOT of work on the covermaster's part before assignments can even be made.

I could do it either way... It would be difficult for me to do the no acoustic, because I only have an acoustic... But I could make something come out, and it might be a cool change, and force me to do something completely different. I'm in either way.
