thanks Dre. yeah, all the string parts I recorded with my violin.

Also - Duffy Westlake
great cover of my requested song O Girlfriend

This was interesting to listen to because of how you handled the texture especially - in the Weezer original it's all filled up by the distortion guitar and for yours you did some good stuff with the recurring pattern in the piano's treble part and then when the guitar comes in on the 2nd verse also (noticed you harmonized the vocal line with it a few times).

I really like when the drums come in. And when you have the breakdown section(2:01-2:17) the piano part is a good touch and transitions well back into the pattern for the verse/guitar solo (which is also played well).

The song through your style I think brings out the ballad quality of the original that people might not notice due to the consistency of instrumentation in the original (all distortion guitar pretty much, though I love it).
Great job.

Tonight I started using my recording equipment for the first time in a long time. Felt good.
Hoping to start work on our late GoM entries tomorrow after school.

Niveous and Tomski: You'll have songs from Rachael and I. hopefully very soon. Sincerely sorry for the delay.

ROCK!

hey deetak! since my gift was a selection of my wife's (m) i wanted to play it to her before responding.
i like it a lot! especially after i read your note above about the strings - i am impressed.

m says:
this is the coffeeshop version. it rolls along nicely.
she's not used to doing song reviews :) but she definitely enjoyed it.

i will add: this is really pleasant in a good way (i feel like there was a better adjective that i had in mind before but now it's lost). you had me singing your version to my son all yesterday evening.

Hey Fluffy. Glad you like the song! I really had a ton of fun recording it and thanks for hooking me up with Brodeur's music. Great stuff.

Check this out too.

And this is what GOM is all about!

Is this the first time that the covered artist had anything to say about a GOM cover?

Pere Ubu chatted with BLT about his cover! (My request.) :D

And I actually sent my cover to my coveree and he professed to enjoy it although he may have just been being a gentleman.

When I covered Heaven by Pere Ubu for Anti-m, I contacted David Thomas about a lyrical part that wasn't in the lyrics. I was surprised that he returned my email. I told him about GOM and I pointed him to the previous year and told him the new songs would be up sometime in Jan. I forgot about it and after the songs went up, he listened and gave me a review and his blessing to make millions off of it as a b-side. :D

He said I didn't put enough emphasis on the main line (it's such a problem) that the song was about, lol. I posted his email here on song fight for that year. I think it was 07/08.

edit: Ah, Em beat me to it. ;)
edit 2: Hey, our search works! It was the 5th annual GOM. http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... 87#p106687
Oh, and it appears that "I" interpreted him telling me to make millions off the b-side. Reading back, he never mentioned money, lol.

Won't be the last. According to a correspondence with Eddiebangs, as a part of the revamping of his label, he & his partners hope to contact covered artists and tell them about the songs to see if they can get some comments.

So, as long as no one ever covers a Prince song, we'll be ok. ;)

Finished my song and sent it in last night. In the end, I had 1 song off my list and slowly grew to hate the song with an unending passion. So, I did a second song off the list and it was okay. It ended up a sweet piece of drivel, the time that makes Plain White T's cream themselves. I was unhappy with that. So I dove into a 3rd song and did something completely different with it. Finally, I was happy with the result. Will anyone else be happy with it awaits to be seen.

RxW: Yes, I know you're Quelle Horreur now (and please pardon the drunken typing) but I am working on it. And I think I've found the hook. Just have to dedicate the chair time to it...

Oh, and Eddie, please *don't* contact Warpaint. I don't think they'd appreciate what I'm going to do to/with their stylistic cover.

Maybe those that didn't finish their GOM songs but are having no problem doing their FAWM songs can somehow coincide the two and finish their gift. Just a thought.
