I had hoped to put this in a better format but after sitting on this information for half of a year, I decided I just needed to share it.

Last year, I decided to undergo a giant labour of love- I listened to the entire SF Archive. And as I listened, I ranked the songs from 10 (Classic) to 1 (Unlistenable). Then I weeded the list down to my favorite 500 songs (weeding the list any smaller would cost me all of my sanity. It was hard to cut it to 500 as I had to chop off some good tunes). Ranking them in numerical order also proved to be a horrendous act, so I happily left it as a list of 500 favorites in no particular order. I was going to do a website with pictures and quotes but I didn't realize just how big a project that would be until I started putting it together. Now that so much time has passed, I figure it's best just to put out the list. So here is SFD, my top 500 favorite Songfight songs from 2000 to 2010:

i've got one! heh.
so what i want to know is how did you keep track of that many ratings? how did you get the artist and title names into the list? etc. sounds like a lot of work just to collate all the information.

Keeping track of all the info was done through Excel. I have a huge spreadsheet with all the songs and my rankings for each of the songs. Lunkhead's SFJukebox also helped with grabbing all the info initially.

When Sam gets funding, I'd lobby for either ratings or favorites in the jukebox. Or personal tags (with auto-completion to ensure consistency) that can be used to filter playlists, etc. Oh, also exporting.

Not that I have any say over what Sam does or does not do with the Jukebox, but would like to restate for the record that I am opposed to any sort of rating system. I have nothing against favorites or filters tagged to your personal Jukebox account.

I recognize that this is a little out of date (does anyone still chuckle at the panel joke?), but it still does a pretty good job of stating my point of view.

Carry on.

If I ever get around to it, I will probably just offer three options: favorite, like, block. Then I would probably just show publicly how many people "favorited" or liked a song, to give some indication of its popularity. Then in another 1000 years I'd probably have a "people who liked this song/fight/artist also liked ... " feature.
