I've made a few anti-spammer mods to phpBB which might be helpful.

Allow guest posting while disabling spambots:

Prevent spammers from spamming the member list:

subSliver mode

If you switch your colors from "songfight" to "subSilver" the forum logo goes away and the php logo shows up.

While we are on this subject of the forum logo... can I make us a new one?

thanks...

phpBB's template system is kinda retarded. There's no logo configuration; that's just hardcoded into the template.

yes of course you can. perhaps make one for the subSilver theme as well. I will place the graphics you make into the system.

Jefff made the cool SongFight theme for us, and he has the graphics that he used in Photoshop format. He mentioned that if you were interested in redoing the logos and buttons and stuff that he'd just send you a zip with the files in it. If you're into that, lemme know.

The answer is yes. Therefore, I ask as a follow-up: Will we disable guests from posting?

phpBB lets you enable/disable guest posting on a per-forum basis, and also has pretty good post rate limiting. One of the patches JB installed also prevents spambots from posting (even if they're registered), and since the forum isn't shared with the rest of Dumbrella anymore it's unlikely that any random fuckwits will just show up and start being a nuisance.

Personally, I think that guest posting should stay enabled for now.

Is it just me, or are posts disappearing in this thread and a few others?

(I am thinking that someone is probably fixing this right now.)

ROCK!

Hey JB, when you undid the avatar option mod did you also remove the anti-spam mod? It doesn't look like it's actually active right now. (If it were there'd be a few <code><input type="hidden" value="[seemingly random junk]"></code>s on the message post pages. And those <>s would have appeared as <>s like they should have from the entity-handling mod which also snuck into the patch.)

You raise a good point about the probably reduction in fuckwits, but on the other hand, people forgetting to log in will probably get really annoying really quickly.

change "songfight live" to "songfight-related events and productions" or some such to include songfighter CDs, etc.

add a "sidefights" thread

change "admin" to "FIGHTMASTER UP YOUR ASS"

lower the god-damned time between posts

I'm in favor of technological Darwinism. If people keep shaming themselves enough they'll learn.

I'm an idiot. It turns out that I forgot to package up posting.php in the patch. My bad. :)

Seconded on all counts.

Pay attention. Two of those are already done.

we can't delete posts any longer.

oh, i see that we can delete posts, but not posts that, i assume, started a thread to which someone has replied. see my "songfight like UK" joke which i can't now unjoke.

phpBB's edit permissions take some getting used to, though I think the defaults do allow you to delete posts even if they've been replied to, as long as you were logged in when you made the original post. I know on my forum I can delete threads at any time, but then again I'm also an admin so I dunno how it is for the plebes. :)

Just curious: I noticed that none of the font and table cell colors I set in the SongFight theme have carried over. Is that intentional by the admin or did something go wrong?

Cuz if it isn't intentional, then I think my colors are way better.

Actually, even if it is intentional, my colors are way better. But it's the admin's prerogative to be wrong. :P

Hooray, it wasn't intentional. My apologies for suggesting the admin could ever be wrong.
