Re: Song Exploder on Netflix
We watched the Wait For It and Losing My Religion episodes. It’s definitely more about the time and context of the song, and its effect on the world, and less about the song itself and how it was created. Even less so than the podcast. Still interesting f though.

Re: Song Exploder on Netflix
I watched all 4 episodes in one sitting and really enjoyed them. It's an interesting contrast to the podcast, because on the podcast you don't hear from Hrishikesh except in his introduction, so the effect is that the musician is in complete control. Here, hearing Hrishikesh's questions and seeing them, especially seeing them react to hearing the stems from their songs, makes them appear more vulnerable. It feels like it becomes more about the musicians than the songs. Especially in the REM and Alicia Keys episodes.
New episodes are coming on December 15 with Nine Inch Nails, Dua Lipa, Natalia Lafourcade, and the Killers. Can't wait.

Re: Song Exploder on Netflix
Maybe we can manage a Song Fight version of this idea for the Song Fight YouTube channel?

Amazing coincidence Lunkhead! I have been working on exactly this thing, and the first episode is LIVE NOW!
Thanks to Robyn Mackenzie for being willing to be the first subject of an interview for the Song Fight Diary. Go watch our conversation about her "Better Luck Next Year" on the Song FIght YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMCry2Br7Ow
I hope to make it a regular thing.

Yay for Songfight Exploder!
My favourite part of the first set of the Netflix Song Exploder episodes was when Michael Stipe had to listen to his raw vocal. I mean this in the nicest way possible; I find it super reassuring to know that even people at that level find their own voices confronting, and that producing good vocals is nuanced and difficult.

Yeah he was much more charming in the Song Exploder interview than I've ever found him to be before.
