H! I'm tired. Spencer was coughing last night and it was keeping me awake. Plus I went to bed super late because Phil and I had recorded the 2 hour Survivor finale and watched it, but not the reunion part yet.
Mother's Day schmothers day. It was ok I guess. Phil let me sleep. Nice. Getting all of us ready to go took forever. I was stressed about making it to the movie in time. Then, when we get in the car (late), Phil tells me that we have to stop at Target to buy his mom a card and present. Stress. No card or present for me. Sad. We made it to the movie with 5 minutes to spare. Luck. Movie was good. Got back to Phil's parent's house and I thought we'd leave soon, but stayed until 10pm. Too late. The kids fell asleep in the car and we had to carry them to bed. Cute.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a teacher. I used to make my little sister do "homework" and sit through "school" in my bedroom. This one house we lived in had this really hideous wallpaper with ships and compasses and stuff. I used to pretend it was a map of the world. I always wanted to be a teacher. Then, when it finally came time to go to school for the stuff I wanted to do, I took a detour down Psychology road. I like psychology too. I am a teacher of sorts... but not really. I am a training coordinator. Not the same.

Movie special effects... Star Wars came out when I was 3 or so, maybe 4, I saw that and I was amazed and watched as many "making-of" shows as I could.Heather. Redmon. wrote: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

QOTD: y'know, I got my first guitar when I was seven, and I used to sit around making up new tunes to the songs in my dad's country-western songbooks... pretty much, I've always felt like I was put on this earth to write songs (specifically, maybe, "church music," and I can actually remember a pretty specific "calling" in that direction at a church camp many, many years ago), and if I had had more gumption and entreprenureal / people skills when I was growing up, I might be doing that for a living now. All those years as a software engineer were pretty much a response to opportunities that arose that brought in a paycheck...
Anyway: here it is Monday, I am now entirely done with school and it's time to start looking for another opportunity that will bring in a paycheck, so we can stop drawing on the retirement money we put away all those years I was a software engineer... the whole job hunting process is something I've been avoiding for almost four years now, mainly due to the same lack of gumption and entre / people skills that kept me from going after songwriting as a career.
Shorter term, I have a list of a bunch of at-home stuff (take the Suburban in to get the OnStar stuff upgraded to digital, etc.) and I need to make a bunch of phone calls (another un-favorite activity) to get rolling on some of those. I actually have zero scheduled items for today; I just need to make sure I don't wind up wasting the whole day... one of the great motivators for me is being in "crisis mode," and I all too frequently put things off until they get to that point...

Mostly today I feel like a heel for how Mother's Day went down.
As a yout, I wanted to be a rock star, and also a comic artist. I'm pretty sure that if I could go back in time and talk to my younger self, I could bullshit myself into believing I had accomplished these goals.
I'm trying to tidy up before I get locked in to my daily adventures, but it's rough humpin' the butt leg around today. C'MON WEDNESDAY! I'm gonna rock the spurious placebo all night!

Reporting in late. It's been a work day. We had that chinese food we never had on Friday, because someone had a birthday. There's cake in the break room, but General Gau and I are engaged in battle at the moment.
When I was little, I wanted to be a musician. Which is to say, I wanted to play music then, and I figured I'd want to play it later. I never really had any career aspirations or future plans of that sort at all.
But I'm reminded of a joke:
SON: When I grow up I want to be a guitarist.
MOM: Now junior, you can't do both.

Today has been hella busy. So much to do and no time at all. Ugh.
I had zero aspirations as a child. Really. As a young child, I was always undecided. It wasn't until my teenage years did I start desiring to be a writer.

-Woke up thinking I was late to school.
-Ran around getting ready.
-Ate cereal and chilled after remembering I had first free today.
-Cat peed on me two minutes before I had to leave.
-Ran around finding a new skirt and washing my leg.
-Noticed the cat peeing, then noticed the blood in her pee(which would account for the clingyness and the howling lately).
-Went to school. Homeroom teacher said, "Why are you late to class, you're never late." "My cat peed on me." "...Did you... did you change your clothes?"
-Got out at 10:30 to get blood taken for my medical.
-Left arm had no veins, despite trying to dig around.
-Right arm had a vein, but it was deep and ohhh goodness. I'm fine with needles, but it's hardly fun.
-Called the vet, dropped kitty off at the hospital.
-Went back to school.
-Drew landscapes, did not notice I was leaning on a fence with red ants.
-Couldn't sing anything right.
-Went to get a Polio vaccination for the medical.
-Picked up kitty. She has a UTI and needs pills twice a day. If that doesn't clear it up then... :/
Bad day. I have three band-aids/plasters(all of them boring beige) and a cat with a UTI. Blegh!

I can't believe I clicked the X instead of submit after writing a bunch of stuff. I almost said f**k it, but you guys aren't getting off that easy 8)

Monday.....yep
Yesterday was a blast
Family, friends, food and music
I'm a simple guy and that's what I live for
A friend brought over a b/l dvd of 300
Really good movie
Paper work today
Got started on round two, but not much
Will get more done tonight
bzl is a tough Judge
What did I want to be when I was a kid?
I used to run around with a tape recorder making sound FX and taping sounds in the world. Then my Dad would dub them into our home movies. Then I got my first guitar at around 8, and started making up songs and making sounds from my guitar. I later got an old VHS vid camera and started making little movies with my sound FX etc.
Then, just like Heuristics, Star Wars changed my life. I knew then that I wanted to do sound FX for movies, the same way Heuristics wanted to do special FX. But I have always loved making music too, so I wanted to score the sounds and music for movies.
But I also played in bands ever since Jr High school and I always seemed to end up doing the writing and singing, even though I was just trying to hide in the back and play my guitar. I have terrible stage fright and can't stand being the center of attention.
So, to answer the question: I wanted to be a film score composer
My heroes in this field : John Williams and Danny Elfman
Incidentally, everyone loves my home movies.
Live, Love Rock
Chris, signing out
ps, this quicker re-do is longer than my first.

Oh yeah, and I wanted to be a vet when I was younger. Mostly so I could be on TV and Rolf Harris could interview me. I had a nifty Animal Hospital rabbit that had a red ear unless you put ice on it in this little thingie. It was cool. I've known I've wanted to be a nurse for a good few years though, so I guess that counts as "when I was younger"

Spencer has started carrying around my first guitar lately. A little Bradley half scale strat. It's blue, with an EVH electrical tape design. Also: Covered in Hulk, Dr. Strange, Mylar, gumball machine, etc. stickers.
I was 4 when I got it. He's 4 now.
Sounds good.
He was tuning it today. A lot. I said "be careful. If you tune too low, the strings fall off."
"Oh, okay."
Now, the first thing I ever remember playing was some Motorhead.
Today, no shit, out of the blue he was coloring in his Foster's Imaginary etc. coloring book, and he says "We should watch some Motorhead."
I told him I didn't have any, but he said "what about on your computer? You could put it on a dvd without any writing on it!"
Smart, rad, awesome boy.

Late reply, but as it's still (to me, in my post-vampire era--no longer working nights, but the mindset is still there) the 14th, here we go...
Wanted to be a writer, which then evolved into "making money selling head trips to people, by any means necessary" and this year made my first dollar actually doing that (music, letting the freak flag fly).
Which could be why my lyrics are so much more than the music behind them. Well, to me at least.
Had a childhood friend from the neighborhood who'd said "I'll never be happy until I can fly." He's a lawyer or something in D.C. now and acknowledges none of his past. Of the others in my childhood, who've had more of an effect on me beyond the one quoted moment, one's a sound guy at Skywalker Ranch, another was just on Regis-and-Whomever pimping her book, and yet another just won an Emmy for kid's animation character design.
I love them all, and am proud of them for grabbing their dreams and making them a reality. And me? Well, I'm having a helluva lot of fun, making goofy-ass music and building up the head-trip repertoire.
Geez, I'm a maudlin sonnovabitch today.
