Here's a quick review....

Ron Rivendale - reminds me of your other material: good, but not without it's weak points.

Wages - reminds me of your other material: weak, but not without it's good points. Don't ask me what they are, I just write this stuff.

Hey, Fightmasters (I entreat humbly),

I honest-to-god thought this was due Thursday. My song was ready to go Monday night, but I thought I had two more nights to tweak it. I mean, it's right here in my "Recent songs" folder. I'll e-mail you the properly-formatted file and everything.

Jeez, I'm an idiot.

Here's the link to my song, in case anyone's interested. http://www.jon-eric.com/Songs/Recent/Jo ... 0Crush.mp3

34 songs. Nearly 2 hours.

I'm starting to wish mine wasn't quite so long. And it's not often you'll hear me say that.

Not that Generic isn't welcome to add one more, of course.

Are You Being Perved was slightly before my time. Though it's still being shown in Queensland? About which I refuse to make the obvious Mr-Humphries-related joke. Instead, I'll just point out that this week I do have the longest - and the shortest comes, somehow inevitably, from...dickhammer.

Hi, um I normally don't post here, and I'm not a musician. I do however follow Song Fight closely, and I run a blog about music & dance content that originates from the internet. I've been voting & reviewing each round of Song Fight for a little while now. My review of this round will be up on Saturday, but I had a guest blogger post his review today. He's pretty harsh, I tend to just mention things I like, and he's the opposite. But if you're interested in feedback about your music good & bad you might want to check it out. I always post my own review, but sometimes I allow a guest blogger such as Sammy since he's actually a musician. I'm not a musician, so my feedback probably isn't very helpful.

Okay, here are my reviews. Please forgive me in advance for being an asshole - that's what we're all here for, right? Right?!

I'm going to divide this week into brackets. If you want to pretend there are numbers, go ahead.

Subjective Picks
These are songs I like listening to, perhaps outside of the competition. Perhaps due to being radio friendly. I will probably vote for these.

Cain
Lyrics are kind of stupid and the clap is annoying, but this was my favorite on the first listen.

Explino
I feel like I've heard this punk song a thousand times before, but that's okay, there are differentiating tidbits. Short, sweet, and exciting. Excellent harmonies.

Kapitano
At first, the vocals turned me off, but hell, this is fucking cool after a few listens. I only hope everyone else gives it the proper listen it deserves.

Lonbobby
Welcome back. This song feels simple - almost too simple - but you milked all the potential complexity out of it as possible.

Cream of the Crop
You came out on top this week. At the very least, for having your shit together. I may vote for these.

Boltoph
Everything is perfect here. It's kind of grown on me, but I'm just not keen on music like this.

Jose Frank
Techno doesn't get a lot of love around here, but I think it's pretty nifty. It definitely ranks much higher than songs with terrible vocal attempts.

Ken's Super Duper
Pretty generic, but nice sounding.

Scomber
If this were just a little tighter... amazing stuff you don't hear here often.

State Shirt
Lots of cool stuff going on here. This would be chilling music for me. I like it, but not enough to put it on loop alone.

Great effort, but needs a little something

Deja Vu
Solid pop song. Needs a little more filling in, maybe harmonies on the chorus. I dig it.

Shatterfront
I love your composition. If Song Fight were all about composition and I were the sole judge, you would win this week. The ideas are all there, but it's hard to listen to with some of the roughness.

Tuners U.
Tempted to raise your rank, but this needs something, and I can't put my finger on it. Damn those drums are cool.

Weakest Suit
It always ... starts out ... on a flat note. It's a sweet composition, but the quiet parts with the detuned vocals are hard to get through. I like the swung beat! More songs should have swing beats.

Good effort, but a fatal flaw (or many small flaws)
I would find these enjoyable, if it weren't for some glaring issue that takes the song down a notch.

Benjamin
Add some instruments and vocal layers, do some more takes, then maybe you can sell me on the "ooooh ooooh" chorus.

BSS
Vocal performance. By the way, you probably know, the mixing on this one is way off. Kudos for bringing the wonky riff, as always.

Blues Manuf.
I surprisingly like the wonky instrumentation you've got going on here. That said, you crapped all over it with your self-admittedly terrible vocals and lyrics.

Earth's Core
4 chords the whole song. That's all I can say - good execution, but a tad boring.

IP
3 chords the whole song. Add harmonies on chorus. Vocals are much better than most here, but still room to improve.

Jon Eric
Catchy song, as always, but dinged on the mix and vocal performance. It sounds like you're straining to hit those high notes.

Lord o' Oats
Vocal performance.

Medusa
Vocal performance - from both of you. I really like the song, but ear-candy like this should be much smoother. This genre doesn't have tolerance for lack of polish.

Menbah
The 'crush crush crush' thing is a travesty - an abomination and affront to all things good - but it worked because I had the damn thing stuck in my head. Sorry, the tune is pretty cool otherwise - the beat, the sax, the bass.

King Kong
Vocal performance. It wouldn't be so bad if you hadn't mixed the vox so loud. Maybe you should go into techno.

Realist
Lack of instrumentation really hurts you here. The song is kind of generic, but you performed it the best you could with the means you had.

A for effort (don't despair, keep trying!)

Chopped Liver
Cliche, never-ending drum loop. Vocal performance.

EAandM
Vocal performance. Mixing. Never-ending loop.

Interchangables
You spelled interchangeable wrong. Performance in general. Generic melody and chord changes.

James Owens
Panning. It sounds like you were trying to quickly crap out a G&G song while someone was sleeping - which I can respect, but cannot enjoy.

Other
You accomplished your goal. It's not a terrible goal, but it's not the goal of winning the majority's approval. You probably won't do anything different next time no matter what the reviews say.

Dickhammer

Octothorpe
I don't even know. The dissonance, Jim Henson, the drums... shine on you crazy rock star.

Rone Riven
Hey.. this ain't too bad. I think it's because you use 3 notes in the whole thing, so it minimizes potential terrible clashing.

Ross Durand
Not much to say about well-recorded, slow G&G.

Wages
One-take Tommy. Eh, I've been more impressed with your other work.

Wreckdom
Your work is always enjoyable and fun.
If I had a dollar for every one of my songs j$ has called a 90s pastiche, I'd have $1 for every song I've written.

I can see I'm going to be apologizing for this one forever.

Studio woes.

What we have here is the initial sketch recording, mic in channel A and guitar in channel B. If all had gone well, it would have been removed before the final mix. All did not go well. In rearranging my studio and adding some new equipment, I somehow introduced latency. I found out on the night before the deadline. So I just submitted the sketch track.

Unfortunately this will go on my Permanent Record.

in James Owens defense, this track now works well for karaoke.

Great, even when someone from the outside comes along and reviews a fight I'm in, I STILL can't get a review. Completely omitted.

Most people hate the bright yellow. I'm planning on making it a very light yellow to fix that, but haven't got around to making new icons, banners, & etc yet. I don't try to make a profit & do it for myself so I've been in no hurry. Remember that isn't my review. Mine will be posted in about 8 hours.
